Comcast accused of internet abuse in latest net neutrality spat

The net neutrality debate has flared up once again, with arguments between cable operator Comcast and broadband backbone provider Level 3 over new fees for data transport. Level 3 has accused Comcast of charging extra for content delivered to Comcast subscribers from Level 3's customers, "effectively putting up a toll booth at the borders of its broadband Internet access network, enabling it to unilaterally decide how much to charge for content which competes with its own cable TV and Xfinity delivered content." However, Comcast argues that this isn't an open access issue, and is in fact Level 3 offering CDN (Content Delivery Network) services to its clients but refusing the pay the going rate for such data transport to Comcast. Cisco home telepresence tipped for Comcast/Verizon reveal next week

Cisco is tipped to be readying a telepresence device for home use, with partnerships with Verizon and Comcast suggested, according to sources talking to BoomTown. The exact nature of the device is unclear, but it's believed to cost as low as $200 when "heavily subsidized" or $500 with fewer commitments. Jeffrey Zucker Leaving NBC Universal After Comcast Takeover Finalizes

NBC Universal is in the processes of being taken over by Comcast Corp., and it seems that a change in management is first on the company's agenda. In an email sent out to employees, and independently confirmed by NBCU's parent company, General Electric Co., Jeffrey Zucker will step down from his position once the takeover finalizes, which is expected to complete by the end of 2010. Zucker is currently 45, and he has only ever worked at NBC, so it is more than likely a big blow for the current Chief Executive Officer. Read The Full Story

Comcast to show The Masters golf tournament in 3D

Rumor: Comcast bumping Internet service up to 100Mbps

Well this certainly is an interesting rumor. It seems that Comcast might be considering boosting their DOCSIS 3.0 cable Internet service up to 100Mbps. And with a current 50Mbps cap, this would be good news for anyone using the service. Apparently, the rumor stated that Comcast would be adding on between 40 and 50Mbps of bandwidth to their current offerings. Only downstream upgrades are mentioned, not upstream. Plus, it's not know if this update would cause a change in the plan pricing or if the 250GB cap would be adjusted. Comcast has already said they would be upgrading to 100Mbps last year, but missed the mark. It seems that current network capacity has been the company's biggest hurdle in completing the upgrade.

Class-action lawsuit brought to Comcast over equipment rentals

Internet and cable provider Comcast is being sued by customer Cheryl Corraleio for requiring her to pay rental fees for the CableCARD and setup box without providing customers with the option to purchase the unit outright. Comcast now offering 22Mbps and 50Mbps connection speeds

If you're a Comcast subscriber, there's some good news headed your way. In fact, the company just announced today that they will be offering new higher-speed connection options. The upgrade to their DOCSIS 3.0 service brings 22Mbps and 50Mbps download speeds with 5Mbps and 10Mbps upload speeds, respectively. These new speed tiers should help subscribers keep with the times. However, even the standard tiers have been upgraded. The 6Mbps/1Mbps tier will be moved up to the 12Mbps/2Mbps tier. Likewise, the 8Mbps/2Mbps tier will be replaced with the 16Mbps/2Mbps tier.
