We are all familiar with Colorware, this is the company that will take your gadget and paint it up for you in whatever retina burning hue you so desire. Colorware has done this for all sorts of gadgets for a long time including the iPad and previous iPhones. It is now offering up the new iPhone 4S in fancy colors, but you had better be prepared to pay dearly for the service.

To start with their iPhone 4S in black or white colors will cost you $1,500. For that much loot you can choose whatever colors you want on the back, frame, button, SIM card tray, and the ear buds. You can get the colors in original shades, gloss and SofTouch. The SofTouch will cost you an extra $10.

That price is just crazy, I don’t recall any previous devices costing that much when colored. The iPad 2 with 3G is nearly $500 cheaper than the iPhone 4S. Would you ever pay that kind of money for a smartphone?

Colorware is known for applying custom color to just about any gadget you can think of, and now they are offering their services to the iPad 2. There are a whole slew of custom iPad colors available. You can either purchase the iPad 2 directly from them or send yours in. There are options in solid finish, metallic, or pearl, and you can customize not only the case color, but the Apple logo color and the button as well. See all the delicious color-i-ness, and a video, after the cut.

If you buy the iPad 2 new from Colorware, the WiFi version will cost you $900, whether you have the black or the white. The 3G AT&T version will cost you $1030. You can choose from a gloss finish, or a softouch finish (which costs an extra $25). When I said they offer I slew of colors, I did mean a slew. Check it out:

Both the send in service and the buy new service take about 4 weeks. So if you think you can do without your iPad for that long (or wait for a new one that long), go for it. You will be the envy of all your friends, and probably even passerby. You will most certainly be stopped on the street if you are seen toting a metallic blue iPad 2.

The send in service is only available in the US, and costs $400.

And of course, there is a video, demonstrating the wonder of the colorized iPad 2:

ColorWare’s normal palette of solid, metallic and pearl colors are available, though so far there’s no option to send in your existing Air to have it retroactively painted. Instead, ColorWare is offering the four standard configurations – 11.6- and 13.3-inches – all with the default 2GB of RAM.

Pricing ranges from $1,980 to $2,580 and you can expect your new toy in around three weeks.

ColorWare have already waved their magic ink-pot at Apple’s recent Mac mini and iPhone 4, so it comes as little surprise to see the Magic Trackpad next up for a custom paint-job. $145 gets you a brand new Magic Trackpad finished in the color scheme of your choosing, though given the Apple peripheral’s minimalist design, there isn’t a huge amount of room for flexibility.

In fact, you can choose two colors: one for the main body of the Magic Trackpad, and the other for the touchpad surface itself. ColorWare’s usual range of solid, metallic and pearl finish paints are available, and the end result can be as tasteful or as wretched as your wallet and conscience allows.

Alternatively, if you’ve already bought a Magic Trackpad but still fancy a new look, you can send it in and pay $75 for the re-painting process. Turnaround is roughly three weeks time; resale value depends on your restraint.

Colorware has been taking our mundane looking gadgets with colors that are black or silver for the most part and making them brighter for years. The company will take all sorts of gadgets and paint them with just about any hue that you might desire.

Colorware started spraying colors on the flanks of the Mac Mini back in late July for Apple fans looking for something different. The company is now making the popular little Flip Ultra camcorder brighter with custom paint.

If you already own a Flip Ultra that you can live without for about three weeks you can get your own painted for $50. If you need a new camcorder and want it painted up, you can get that for $210. The camera you buy from Colorware has 4GB of internal storage, a 2-inch screen, and records H.264 video at 640 x 480 resolution.

Pricing varies: if you send in your own Mac mini then the custom paint-job will set you back $250, while Colorware will happily sell you a brand new machine from $1,000 ready-painted. Delivery is in around three weeks, giving you enough time to find matching cables. We’re particularly fond of the metallic “prowler” purple, just in case anyone out there is wondering what to buy us for Christmas.

Good old Colorware – just because Apple aren’t offering a white iPhone 4, doesn’t mean a rainbow of choice isn’t yours for the taking by other means. The well-heeled and desperately individual can now pick up a custom-colored iPhone 4 with their pick of frame, button, back panel, SIM tray and headphone hues, though as usual they’ll need to stomach a considerable premium.

That premium, in the iPhone 4′s case, is $250 – that’s obviously on top of the cost of the handset itself. If you want a soft-touch finish on any component then that’ll cost extra too, and if you’re unhappy with Colorware’s range of tones then you can have a custom finish created for a further $250.

Expensive stuff, but if you want to differentiate yourself from the rest of the iPhone 4 owning crowd then it’s certainly one option. Of course, a case will also do the same thing – and take care of the antenna issue too – leaving you a whole lot of money left over to hire lawyers for class-action suits against Apple.

By now, you’re probably already well into your fourth of July celebration. If not, you’re already behind the curve, so start celebrating your long weekend! Most of you probably don’t have work on Monday, so go ahead and take the time to relax — you deserve it. We’ll try and help you out tonight, in this edition of The Daily Slash. First up, in the Best of R3 Media, we’ve got some rumors about Android 2.2 and the original Droid, ColorWare wants to paint your new Xbox 360, and Verizon’s been forced to fork out $21 million. And then in the Dredge ‘Net, we’ve got a countertop that’ll teach you things, a digital burial ground for the KIN, and some new information about Google Music.

The Best of R3 Media

July 13th is Rumored Date for Froyo Update to Droid: Rumors are already starting to kick off about the future update for the original Droid. We know that it’s coming some time in July, or at least that’s what some documents have said and what Motorola’s Sanjay Jha pretty much tossed out at the announcement for the Droid X. Thanks to some sources who are apparently familiar with the matter, they’ve been told that July 13th is the day of days. Yes, two days before the launch of the Droid X. Now we just have to hope that it doesn’t get delayed as often as the 2.1 update did, or people may riot. [via Android Community]

ColorWare Will Paint Your Xbox 360 S: When it comes to custom coloring, ColorWare knows what they’re doing. You could call them professionals. And since they did enough paint jobs with the mobile gadgets, and even HDTVs, it looks like they’re ready to pain the Xbox 360 S, too. You can either buy one from ColorWare with your customized choices for $500, or send yours in for $175. Not as expensive as some of their earlier paint jobs, but maybe still just a bit much for a paint job. [via SlashGear]

Verizon Loses ETF Class-Action Lawsuit, Pays a Bunch: When ETFs were common (they still are), and they didn’t fluctuate much in their whole pricing scheme, people weren’t all that happy about it. So, of course, a class-action lawsuit came from it, and here we are today, after that was started in 2008, and Verizon’s just now having to pay out to a few appeals that were floating around out there. Each person gets $87.50, which equals out to be $21 million when it all finishes up. Quite a lofty sum. [via PhoneMag]

The Dredge ‘Net

Countertop of the Future Scans Food: Oh, and it will also tell you how to cook it. Yeah, that’s right. This countertop reflects the same amount of tech and innovation as Microsoft’s Surface, but it’s entire job is to just scan food, tell you helpful hints and nutritional information. But, best of all, a pico projector will be used to actually tell you how to cook the food, too, depending on what you’re trying to make. You can even use a virtual shopping list. [via DVICE]

Deceased Microsoft KIN Gets a Website Graveyard: This is definitely one of the most interesting stories we heard all day. As I’m sure you know by now, the Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two have been axed by Microsoft. They’re going to focus on Windows Phone 7, and apparently that means KIN has no place in this world. Well someone out there misses their device, because they put up a memorial site for the deceased device. 2010-2010. Such a short life, indeed! [via TechCrunch]

Android 3.0 Will Launch Concurrently with Google Music: Google’s plan for Google Music is all set up, and by now they’re probably just getting ready to launch it. And, while there’s not a whole lot of information to go on here, we can say that Google’s very own project manager Gaurav Jain has confirmed that Android 3.0, better known as Gingerbread, will launch with Google Music by the end of this year. That’s good news for all the folks who don’t want to use iTunes anymore, especially if you get to use that brand new Operating System along with it. [via Gizmodo]

ColorWare is on a roll. Having just announced in the last few weeks that they’ve stepped up their game to include HDTVs, and even Segways, it looks like they’re getting their hands on some new gadgets, too. And this time around, if you’re not a fan of remarkably shiny black pieces of technology, then you can go ahead and choose from any color you want, and get it colored and customized specifically for you.

As usual, ColorWare is giving customers the ability to choose how they get their new Microsoft Xbox 360 colored. They can either choose to order the system, with additional (also customizable) controllers, or just send their own console in. Both options will see your new colored item shipped in about three weeks, so it really just depends on what’s more comfortable for you.

As for pricing, what’s also pretty standard comes into play here, too. For you to choose your own model to have sent to you from the company, it will cost you $500 to get your ‘box colored. And if you choose to send your own in, that will run you $175. Sure, it could be a lot more expensive, but throwing down that much money just to make sure that your Xbox 360 looks different from everyone else’s may still be just a little “too extra.”

ColorWare is pretty notorious for doing custom paint jobs for your favorite gadgets. iPads and mobile phones, things like that. They were well known for their color-throwing ways, but notorious for the price tags that went along with it. And when they added HDTVs to their list of things that could be colored, eyebrows were raised. But now, well, we’re speechless.

We didn’t think Segways were popular enough to get color options, let alone extremely expensive ones coming from the customizing minds of ColorWare. Apparently, there were far too many standard black Segways out there, that someone decided things needed to chage. For the colorful, there’s plenty of options to choose from, thankfully. However, unlike the HDTVs, you are able to send in your own Segway and get it colored. That will cost you $1,500. Sure, it could be more expensive, especially considering the size of the Segway, but we’re pretty sure you could find something else to spend your hard-earned $1,500 on, too. Unless you really want a blue Segway.

Starting this week, ColorWare is making it possible for those that really, really want to customize their TV, to add their customized paint job. Oddly enough, the company isn’t going out of their way to spout sample prices quite yet. Apparently that’s due to the absurd amount of HDTV options out there, and not because they want to give people pre-mature heart attacks, due to the assault on their wallet.

Also, and this is a bit of bad news we know, you can’t send in your HDTV to them, like you can with the mobile gadgets. You’ll either have to order a new TV through them, with the custom paint job already ordered, or paint it yourself. Unfortunate, but then again, we don’t know many people who would actually send their TVs to anyone.

ColorWare have opened up their inky arms and welcomed in the iPad, offering to make your Apple tablet distinctive for “just” $400. The company can take its usual range of solid, metallic and pearl colors and allows you to choose between them for the aluminum back panel, Apple logo and the home button.

If you already have an iPad and are happy shipping it off to ColorWare, they’ll give it the treatment for $400. Alternatively, they’ll sell you a new iPad – complete with whatever dye scheme your imagination can come up with – for $900. Bear in mind that’s for the basic 16GB WiFi model; the 32GB is $1,000 and the 64GB is $1,100.

Personally we’d rather go for something less permanent and less pricy, like the GelaSkins we’ve just reviewed; in comparison their $29.95 price tag looks like an absolute bargain. Plus, after hearing the hundredth person tell you “wow, that’s an ugly iPad” you can rip off your custom GelaSkin and avoid further shame.

ColorWare has been around for a long time and in the beginning, the company mostly offered custom painting services for notebooks and other computers. The company now also offers coloring solutions for all sorts of gadgets today including smartphones.

The latest smartphone to get the ColorWare treatment is the Google Nexus One. The handset can be colored with glossy or soft touch hues to your liking. The company will paint the frame, back, bottom, and camera surround.

Like most handsets the company can paint you can get your own Nexus One panted for $175 or buy handset and all. If you haven’t purchased a Nexus One yet, ColorWare will buy it for you and paint it before shipping for $800. Presumably, that would be the no contract version of the handset.

If your Core i7 iMac isn’t unique enough – and if you have one that powers on and has an intact screen, then from the sound of things it’s already pretty rare – then you could always turn to ColorWare for help. The customization company have announced that they’re happily take your Apple all-in-one (or indeed your Magic Mouse) and brighten up its aluminum body with a new paint finish.

The Magic Mouse costs $100 with a choice of different top and bottom colors, or alternatively just $30 if you send your own mouse in. As for the iMac, that’s a bigger beastie and requires a whole lot more paint, so ColorWare are asking a $700 premium over and above Apple’s pricing if you buy the whole thing through them, or alternatively $500 if you ship in your existing iMac and simply have them recolor it.

At the other end of the scale from ASUS’ new Eee PC colors comes an admittedly more-tempting prospect: ColorWare’s Stealth MacBook Pro. Taking a 15-inch 3.06GHz MacBook Pro as its base, the ink-wielders then throw their own soft-touch “zero gloss” finish at the unibody casing, and finish off the display with a matte coating.

Apparently the casing is fingerprint-resistant, which is probably a good thing as people will be desperately trying to claw it out of your hands. Inside things are top-spec too, with 8GB of DDR3 memory, a 256GB SSD and a DVD burner.

That sort of configuration alone will cost you around $4,249 from Apple, but as we’ve seen before ColorWare aren’t in the business of under-charging for their work. Only ten of these Stealth MacBook Pro units will be made, priced at $6,000 each.

It’s unlikely to be taxing their production line all that much, but notorious ink-lovers ColorWare have announced they’ll be offering custom versions of the iPhone 3GS. As with other ColorWare creations, the end result can be as tasteful or as lurid as your morals allow.

The usual range of solid and metallic colors are available, and you can have your earphones dyed to match too. The basic process changes just the back-plate of the phone, but you can also customize the normally-chrome bezel, the home button and the SIM holder.

Pricing starts at $150 for the back, then add $20 each for the bezel frame and button, or $15 each for the SIM holder and earbuds. Currently there’s only the option to send in your own iPhone 3GS (in the US); ColorWare aren’t offering the smartphone themselves at this stage.

Amazon’s Kindle 2 may still not have a color display option, but you can certainly brighten up your ebook experience courtesy of ColorWare. The infamous inkers are now offering a color customization option for the Kindle 2, with solid and metallic options and the ability to mix and match controls and different areas of the casing.

ColorWare treat the front bezel, rear top and bottom, buttons and keys as different sections, and each of which can be colored differently. Leaving the rear bottom panel brushed metal costs nothing, but you can have that colored too for $25 more. Unfortunately whether the design is tasteful or not is all up to you, so try not to come up with anything too outlandish (especially if you ever want to sell the Kindle!)

Pricing for the color treatment starts at $199 if you’re sending in your own Kindle 2, or ColorWare will sell you a new ebook reader already customized for $599. That’s a fair chunk of change on top of the Kindle 2 itself, but such is the price you pay for being special; delivery takes around 2-3 weeks.
