This is a design straight out of the concept books of both Peter Vardai and Tamas Fodor, both of whome have brought to life this magnificent machine for the world to get their TRON on in. It seems like this TRON fad has become a movement as the movie itself is leaving theaters yet concepts keep popping up. The goal of the designer of this project (Vardai) was to both reinforce the emotions people feel toward the Mercedes brand and bring their eyes up and out forward toward the future. Light strips on black sides will do that!

The shape of this vehicle, Vardai says, is based on the aerodynamics of an airplane, a streamlined set of sides for a smooth ride all the time. Black and silver are strewn throughout (though you can only see the black and the lights above) and lights, although the designer doesn’t mention them in his outline, are taken straight out of the newest installment in the Tron series: Legacy. Behold!

Here’s something so tiny and light-up that I don’t see how you could possibly resist. The Push Pin Light, straight out of the most glorious place for things you might never have thought of, Japan. One of my favorite stores for cute gift purchases, Strapya World, has these little beauties on pre-order now, shipping next week. They come in green, blue, orange, pink, and white, and have replaceable LR41 button batteries so you can use them forever!

At 4.70 USD each, they might be a little bit expensive if you’d like to be spelling out your whole name on the wall, but if you’re just interested in marking something like, say, a doorknob in the dark, you might be apt to be picking one of these little ladies up. Poke on – poke off. Find them right over here.

Welcome to this week’s edition of the SlashGear Week in Review. I hope your week was a good one, there was a lot going on in the tech world. We learned early in the week that Nokia had a touchscreen alternative to the iPhone that was axed in 2004. That device could have made for a different landscape in the smartphone realm today had it made it to market.

The Windows Phone 7 smartphones are set to hit on November 8 according to a rumor. That is a month after the launch is expected to happen in Europe. A German publication has leaked what it claims to be the launch date for the Nintendo 3DS. According to the publication the new 3D gaming console will hit on November 11. The catch is that the publication is a tabloid and it is known for printing outright false information apparently.

Motorola, HTC, and Asus have all adopted the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform for their smartphones and tablets. Motorola will put the chipset into a smartphone with the other two makers using in a tablet. Monday marked the official unveil of the Blackberry Playbook tablet. The full specifications and all the pertinent details of the tablet were offered up and the tablet sounds pretty good.

Along with the unveiling of the Playbook, RIM also talked about app plug-ins, ads in apps, and in-app payments that will be coming to Blackberry devices. RIM also stated that there are 35 million App world users today. We also compared the iPad to the Playbook with the catch that we weren’t able to get hands on with the Playbook. I suspect the Playbook will not be as popular as the iPad.

Maingear unveiled a new model of the SHIFT computer dubbed Super Stock. The machines are customizable and have some really nice and high-performance features. Sony Ericsson unveiled a cool mini-display for Bluetooth Android phones called the LiveView. It’s sort of like a secondary screen for your smartphone.

A geek showed off the coolest R2-D2 robot I have ever seen. He built it DIY style and it is large enough for him to ride inside. The firmware for the Apple TV has offered up hints at a couple new iPhones that might be coming. The firmware shows 3,2 and 3,3 iPhones. The current iPhone is called the 3,1.

One of the most interesting things for the week was that the movie studios are reportedly contemplating a new pay per view service that would let the users watch movies not on DVD yet for $30 per view. It sounds a lot like a home version of the Spectravision offering in hotels. ATM’s generally dispense cash, but we learned that some new ATMs that dispense gold are set to come to the US. The new ATMs will hit the states by the end of the year apparently.

Borders unveiled a new wireless version of the Kobo eReader. The device adds WiFi to the mix, has a 6-inch eInk screen, and sells for $139.99. That sweet Motorola Droid R2-D2 version smartphone got its unboxing video this week. That phone has to be one of the coolest Android devices ever.

DARPA has been talking about the sweet transformer project for a while now. The goal of the project is to build a flying Humvee and the contrast to start working on a real version of the vehicle has been awarded. We got out hands on the Nokia N8 smartphone this week for an unboxing. The thing feels nice in the hands and we will be back soon with a full review of the device.

A rumor surfaced claiming that the next iPhone and iPad will move to a Qualcomm baseband. The move would reportedly make it easier for the device to be offered on other networks. GoPro has unveiled a new wearable camcorder that has a cheaper price than its other offerings. The device is called the HD Hero 960 and it sells for $179.99.

A new cheap Android tablet surfaced called the disgo Tablet 6000. The slate has a 7-inch screen, Android 2.1, WiFi, miniHDMI, and a pair of USB ports along with 2GB of storage. NVIDIA has agreed to a settlement on the defective GPUs that plagued Apple, Dell, and Sony notebooks. The settlement particulars are outlines on a special site just for those with affected machines.

Google announced that it has now expanded StreetView to cover all seven continents with the service now available in Antarctica. There are no roads there so you get images of Half Moon Island and a bunch of penguins. Friday news that the speed record for the fastest lawnmower had been broken. The record was 87.833 mph and the new record is now 96.529 mph. Thanks for reading, see you next week!

LED lights are usually pretty straightforward things, apart from the technologic “cool” factor. But these d-light Bubbles are anything but straightforward, at least when you try to squeeze them. Yes, they’re squeezable.

Designed by Diana Lin Studio, which aims to “give people not only physical experiences with products, but also emotional experiences”, the d°light Bubbles combine the soft and squeezable nature of silicone with an LED light, and “ When you squeeze the silicone bubbles, you can feel the pressure of the air inside and also hear the sound of the air coming out.”

These are certainly odd, yet totally unique at the same time. The lights are purchasable for $140,from the Yanko Design Store (and apparently can stretch out 10 feet long).

Even a couple of years after its release, Philips’ Living Colors LED lamp remains one of the cooler ways to light up your living room. Packing a rainbow of LED light into one remote-controlled unit, the biggest drawback is its price: around $180 if you can find it in the US. Stepping neatly into the fray, then, comes this multi-colored LED bulb that slots into a standard MR16 socket and costs less than a sixth of the Philips lamp.

The principle remains the same – colored LEDs are combined to make various shades – but since the bulb relies on existing MR16 12V halogen fittings you’re not paying for the Philips housing and stylings. While the Living Colors lamp supports any shade, the cheaper bulb only offers sixteen presets, but it can transition through them smoothly or by flashing, strobing or fading.

For $26.96 you get the LED bulb and a compact remote control, and if you install a number of the lights then the same remote will operate them all in tandem. There’s also brightness control and the bulb is rated for up to 25,000hrs use.

I don’t like oil burners, I had a horrific experience with one where I set my desk on fire. I have a glass desk and when you have an oil fire on a glass desk, throwing water on it only spreads the fire around. I will never buy another one, not even the USB Aroma Oil Burner and Radio.

As the name suggests it is an oil burner and a radio and works via USB. While it is an FM radio, you can plug in your Mp3 player or PC and listen to them through the speakers as well. It also has color changing lights inside (seven colors) so you can have mood lighting with your mood aromas.

If you’re interested in one you can buy it for $30 from Brando. Flame or not, they’ll still get hot, so be careful.

Check out this neat little flashlight whose end is literally the automotive power adapter that plugs in to charge it. There is also an orange cone tip for the light so you can use it to signal traffic like a police officer (although I wouldn’t recommend it).

The light source is a few LEDs, and with the orange cone off, you can see it from up to 130 to 160 feet away. You can also use both a solid beam or there is a flashing option.

Like I said, it recharges by plugging into your car’s automotive power adapter, but after being fully charged, which takes 2 hours, it will last you a full 5 times that, 10 hours. You can get them now either at your local Eddie Bauer store or online for $16.50.

Watching TV in the dark causes eye strain. We all know this but we still do it, in fact I prefer it which probably explains my need for glasses. For those of you who are concerned about eye screen Illuminaire offers a solution that is very pleasing to the eye.

Illuminaire offers ambient backlighting that gives you the optimum lighting required to reduce eyestrain. You can get it in single color and color changing models and it comes with a remote. Illuminaires are meant to be used for 17” to 60” TVs.

Pricing ranges from $100-$350 depending on the model you choose. It seems like a lot for the same effect I could get by hanging up a strand of rope lights but I’m sure it’ll look a whole lot nicer.

I grew up in one of those houses where every holiday had decorations and even some made up holidays had some. What I’m saying is, my mother loves decorations. However, my father doesn’t enjoy them so much, especially if he has to take part in putting them up. The Lazy Man’s Holiday Lights, though, is a great way to please both of them by putting up your lights only once.

The Lazy Man lets you control the colors shown on your strand of lights so you can easily adjust them to the holiday without switching out for a new set. It comes with its own 50’ string of lights, all of which are LED and won’t burn out, and of course the control box. It’s cute, it’s clever and it’s time saving.

You’ll only ever have to decorate one more time, which I’m sure a lot of people will appreciate so much they won’t even notice the $80 price tag. It might say lazy in the name but I think it leans more towards smart.

I, like your average woman, love candles. We can’t explain it; it’s just one of those great woman mysteries like miniatures and soft, fuzzy things. We eat that stuff up! So of course when I saw these candles my heart skipped a beat. They are by far the coolest candle I’ve ever seen… and they’re not even a real candle.

This faux candle comes packaged like the real deal. Its solid wax exterior houses a LED light which flickers like a real flame. The penultimate feature is that you can switch to a warm yellow glow or a cool blue to suit your mood or lighting needs. Of course, the best part is that you can blow it out… and blow it on.

It comes in two different sizes, 4’’ and 6’’, and will last for 300 hours, something your average candle could never do. After seeing this I don’t know how I could ever go back to the real thing. You can buy it from ThinkGeek for $12-$15 depending on the size. I highly suggest picking up one for your nearest and dearest of the female kind.

The lamp comes with three jellyfish which float around in a slow current creating a pleasant viewing experience. The best part of course is the LED lighting and whether you’re a rainbow of color or a solid color kind of person, you’ll find a setting to enjoy.

You can buy the Jellyfish Mood Lamp from Think Geek for $50. Not only is it great for creating the perfect atmosphere, it’ll also complete any Spongebob themed décor.

The third series is available now and they are sure to cast a happy glow on an otherwise gloomy night. These bright, colorful creations are perfect accessories to any bedroom or office.

While it’s look seems to be geared toward children I’m sure many adults will pick up a set for themselves. The have a range of settings for your entertainment. While Heartbeat and Rainbow give off cute and cuddly thoughts, Strobe, Color Dance, Color Hold, and Sleep are more aptly named.

This series of Mood Beams comes in a set of four, though you can buy them individually. However, who would want to break up the gang? Peppy, Chipper, Gloomy and Dizzy retail for about $20 a piece and $70 for the set.
