Microsoft prepares to roll out new Windows-based cloud systems

Microsoft had a pretty big announcement to make the Worldwide Partners Conference this week in Toronto, showing off preview builds of some new tools that companies will definitely want to pay attention to. As it turns out, Microsoft has been preparing Windows Server to allow companies to set up virtual machines and servers of their own. The company then revealed a trio of services that will take advantage of the cloud computing tools found in Windows Server 2012, which Microsoft says will be shipping out to select manufacturers in August before getting a wider release in September. Cisco drops Connect Cloud from default router settings

Cisco caused an uproar when it pushed out an update to certain Linksys routers that blocked local access to router settings, instead prompting users to sign up for the Cisco Connect Cloud service. Not only that, but the policy for the service stated that users had to agree to anti-porn and anti-piracy clauses. Now Cisco has taken to its blog to try and clarify the situation. D-Link Cloud Router 1200 and 2000 revealed

This week the folks at D-Link have ushered in a new age of cloud router goodness for themselves with both the Cloud Router 1200 (DIR-636L) and the Cloud Router 2000 (DIR-826L). Both of these routers come with mydlink Cloud Services and operate on speeds of up to 300 Mbps and 600 Mbps, with the 2000 being the faster of the two. Both of these routers also work in a manner quite similar to the D-Link router we saw earlier this week with a full-sized USB port which can hook into a variety of devices and bring all of that devices contents to the cloud. iCloud goes 100% green in 2012

According to CFO Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's North Carolina facility dedicated to iCloud data will be run entirely on renewable energy by the end of 2012. This data center is not the only one of its kind made for this purpose for and by Apple, but it is the main iCloud data center, this forging the way forward for the company which was just this past April the subject of a Greenpeace report "How Clean is Your Cloud?" Apple had since rejected Greenpeace's claims that they were lagging behind Google and Facebook in the green department claiming that they already had 50 percent more renewable energy in action in their data centers than they'd projected originally. NVIDIA enters cloud gaming with GeForce GRID

Cloud gaming seems to be gathering some momentum, with OnLive and Gaikai both providing streaming games for reasonable prices with decent, if not amazing, quality. Now NVIDIA has signed a partnership with Gaikai that would see the cloud gaming company make use of of the new Kepler architecture as well as dedicated video encoding via CUDA. Read The Full Story

Google Docs explodes with new fonts

This update will allow web fonts in Google documents, one whole heck of a lot of them, each of them working to allow you fabulous looks for your documents both online and offline in print form. Google Drive + Chrome OS = Chromebook rebirth

Google will use Google Drive integration to attempt to reinvigorate adoption of Chromebooks, closely tying the cloud storage service into the Chrome OS-based ultraportables. The new online drive will in effect be used as the default local drive on Chromebooks, Chrome chief Sundar Pichai told Wired, with seamless blending of the local system with internet-based storage space. Linux Google Drive tipped for May

The cloud storage system known as Google Drive has informally been confirmed by a Google Docs Community Manager by the name of Theresa Wu. In a quite simple comment on Google+ this week she noted that the teams are indeed hard at work on a bit of desktop integration for the Linux environment, noting that the community should only have to "sit tight" and their prayers would be answered soon.
