Clearwire and Qualcomm partner on Band 41 LTE

Clearwire announces first 31 LTE cities

Clearwire has announced the first round of cities that will be receiving its LTE service when it launches in early 2013. A total of 31 will be served, including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle. NetZero 4G Mobile Broadband offers free WiMAX

NetZero has launched a new, low-cost 4G data network, NetZero 4G Mobile Broadband, offering contract-free access from $9.95 per month. Available in around 80 US cities, the new Mobile Broadband system offers a choice of a USB modem or a WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices simultaneously, while 4G service itself can be intentionally speed-capped so as to prolong the data allowance. Cricket signs five-year Clearwire LTE deal

Clearwire is currently in the process of migrating from WiMAX to LTE, but there was a slight bump in the road when Google announced at the end of February it was selling its existing stock in the company, well below the market value. The 6.5% stake was sold for $47 million at $1.60 a share, below the $2.27 asking price at the time. Clearwire has today announced a new partnership with Cricket, which will see the budget wireless provider making use of Clearwire’s LTE network when it’s eventually built. Read The Full Story

Clearwire unveils Clear Stick Atlas

Clearwire has announced a new 4G USB dongle that offers instant 4G connectivity without having to install any software. The dongle is called the Clear Stick Atlas and plugs into a USB port. Google ditches Clearwire stock

Google has ditched its stake in Clearwire, selling off its 6.5-percent of Class A stock in the WiMAX carrier for $47m, well below market value. The news was confirmed in a SEC filing today, with a separate letter from Google revealing that Google is looking for $1.60 per share, while Clearwire stock is currently selling for $2.27. Clearwire has released information on price and release for a couple of new hotspots, both of them running on their current WiMAX 4G network. The first is a $99 wifi router mobile hotspot combination device called Clear Hub Express, it made for both your home and your mobile office. The Clear Spot Voyager, on the other hand, is a $124 device and the ability to run WiMAX wirelessly to eight devices for up to six hours on its own internal battery. Sprint and Clearwire are not doing well and neither is their partnerships to bring WiMax 4G service to the masses. Sprint was said to be in talks with Clearwire in August to possibly buy Clearwire out. Since then nothing has happened between the two companies. Apple and China Mobile are in talks about a 4G iPhone, it has been revealed, though technological differences mean such a smartphone likely wouldn't work on Verizon or AT&T's LTE networks in the US. "China Mobile and Apple hope to find a solution for close collaboration" carrier chairman Wang Jianzhou told Bloomberg, before suggesting that the Cupertino company sounded enthusiastic about the prospect.
