Google Chrome Beta browser gets noisy tab indicators, other changes

The newest Chrome Beta browser build has a new feature that indicates which tab or tabs are playing music or other audio. That way, when you're browsing with multiple tabs open and suddenly hear some guy blabbing about a fabulous new way to make money on the Internet, you can see at a glance which tab it's coming from and shoot it down (or proceed to take him up on his unmissable offer.) This, among other handy little additions to Chrome 32.

Samsung announces screencasting SDK with multiscreen and overlay capabilities

Samsung has announced its new SDK that lets developers add screencasting functionality to apps that work in tandem with smart TVs beginning Nov. 12. The SDK also lets developers use multiscreen and overlay features for added device integration, which will help set Samsung apart from Airplay, Chromecast and other competition. The announcement was made today at the Samsung Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Google Q3 buoyant despite Motorola stumbles as Page talks smartwatches

Google made $14.9bn in revenue in Q3 2013 despite Motorola Mobility sales continuing to shrink, with CEO Larry Page making one final earnings call to praise the Chromecast and namecheck smartwatches as one of the next big things in digital. Overall, revenues were up 12-percent versus the same quarter last year, with cash or cash-equivalents on hand amounting to $56.52bn. Speaking on the investor webcast, Page highlighted the speed at which the multi-screen world had developed, pointing to wearables like Glass and smartwatches as examples, and saying he no longer need feel guilty about spending time visiting the Android team.

Chromecast support expands: YouTube embeds now Casting

With the release of the Chromecast came the second wave of Google's vision for ultra-simple "flinging" of content from your Android device to a larger display. As the Nexus Q took a belly dive, the much smaller and simpler Chromecast took hold, it being small enough to fit in a person's pocket and able to connect to essentially any Android device nearly instantly. Now that this device is in the hands - or plugged into the HDMI ports - of thousands of users across the globe, Google has begun a push with YouTube to expand support and features.
