Chinese automatic manned space docking completed successfully

I mentioned last week that China was set to launch its Shenzhou-9 spacecraft in an attempt to dock with its orbiting space station module with astronauts on board for the first time. This mission also had China's first female astronaut aboard. The automated docking procedure between the manned spacecraft and orbiting station module China previously placed in space was successful. China to send its first female into space tomorrow

China plans to send three astronauts into space on Saturday aboard a Shenzhou-9 spacecraft. This will be the country's first manned space docking attempt if all goes well. One of the astronauts of the three-member crew will be Liu Yiang, a 33-year-old major in the Peoples Liberation Army and the country's first woman to ever go into space. Read The Full Story

China ready for manned spaceflight in mid-June

With all the hubbub centered on SpaceX and its successful mission to carry cargo to and from the International Space Station, China is set to make some news of its own. China wasn't invited to the ISS party, and launched its own space station module called the Tiangong 1 a while back. Tim Cook pushes Apple manufacturing in USA at D10

When asked at the All Things D conference by Kara Swisher why Apple does not have its own factories in China, Tim Cook spoke highly of the plants already in place. "We decided a decade ago that there were things Apple could do best and that there were other things that somebody else can do as well or better. Manufacturing was one of those. I think that's still true." Cook's comments come at a time when critics have been relatively silent on manufacturing plants such as Foxconn, while Walk Mossberg continues to question him on the subject. Read The Full Story

This week we're seeing no lack of iPhone 5 rumors, with this latest tidbit being a selection of supply reports from China pointing toward shakeups in the global supply economy as a result of Apple's next big titan. This next-level smartphone is set to have components that are not necessarily working with the same companies Apple has been working with before, with the most recent supply shock being Apple's leaked purchase of flash memory products with Elpida, a competitor with the then $10 million USD poorer Samsung, for over half of their total parts in-house. Foxconn dropping $210m on new Apple production line

The alliance between Apple and Foxconn seems to be going swimmingly. It wasn’t too long ago that we heard the two companies would split the costs to improve working conditions, and a new report from China Daily shows that Foxconn will invest $210 million into a new Apple production line. The new plant will be located in Huai’an city, occupy around 40,000 square meters, and eventually hire 35,800 workers. Read The Full Story

China Mobile hoping to offer iPhone

Apple continues to roll out the iPhone to additional carriers across the United States, and more importantly, the world. Bloomberg reports that China Mobile is in talks with Apple to carry the iPhone, which would bring Cupertino’s smartphone to the largest phone company in the world in terms of user base. Baidu Cloud set to launch next week

Android and iOS may be seeing massive success in Europe and the United States, but Baidu is poised to compete against both in China. The search based company is planning to launch a new version of its operating system, Baidu Cloud, which will feature cloud-based products such as storage. Google Drive falls foul of China firewall

Google Drive has seen China's Great Firewall slam it its cloud-storage face, the latest service from the big search firm to be blocked from billion-strong population. Launched earlier this week to take on DropBox, Box and SkyDrive, Google Drive offers 5GB of free storage and the option of a monthly subscription for extra capacity, using optical character recognition (OCR) to pull text and objects out from photos and PDFs.
