Nortel hacked for 10 years because execs had crackable passwords

In what is nothing short of an embarrassment for telecommunications giant Nortel Networks, it has been exposed that hackers in China have been accessing sensitive company information for nearly 10 years. It was hard to notice anything was wrong because these hackers seemed to gain access to proprietary company websites legitimately. Proview calls on Chinese customs to end iPad import and export

A Chinese company called Proview is really holding Apple over a barrel in China. Apple purchased the iPad trademark from Proview years ago when it started marketing its tablet. Apple claims to have the rights to use the iPad name inside China, however, Proview says the original deal did not include its home territory. China Telecom to push iPhone 4S in February

Apple's iPhone push in China continues to buoy the telecoms market, with further talk of a second carrier in the Chinese market to offer the iOS smartphone. After analysts predicted China Telecom would follow China Unicom in offering the iPhone 4S, as part of a 40m unit sales push by 2013, the China Daily now claims the carrier could launch the handset on its CDMA network as soon as February 2012. The move follows comments by Apple CEO Tim Cook suggesting that the company sees China as its next significant growth market. Read The Full Story

Foxconn expanding by 5 factories to bump Apple production

The folks at Foxconn have announced plans to expand their production of Apple products by five factories soon, each of them in Brazil. These extra factories will allow them to cater to demand for both iPhones and iPads, but mostly the latter, and will be combining to up their annual run rate by 400 million units within five years. São Paulo's Secretary of Planning and Development of the State, Julio Semeghini, released this information saying that the five factories will be staffing right around 1,000 workers each. Morgan Stanley predicts Apple will sell 40 million iPhones in China by 2013

Apple has admitted that it had planned poorly for the launch of the iPhone 4S in China. Apple launched the iPhone 4S in China and didn't have enough stock leaving many who waited in line without the device, which led to near riots with eggs thrown at windows, and employees smacked around. Despite the initial issues with the iPhone in China, Apple is predicted to sell a huge number of devices by 2013. In fact, analysts predict that Apple could add as much as $10 per share in revenue from China alone. Read The Full Story

Apple iPhone 4S reservations now require government ID in Hong Kong

If you want an iPhone 4S in Hong Kong, you'll need an Internet connection, a government-issued photo ID, and a bit of luck. Apple has amended its online lottery system after scalpers and bots created mayhem and an utter lack of fairness to normal consumers. Hongpaiyihao Chinese pocket-buster tablet has us flabbergasted

There's a new most expensive tablet PC in the world, folks, and it's made by a mystery producer - but we do have a name for the product: Hongpaiyihao, or Red Group Number One, a tablet with a cool $1,500 USD pricetag, made specifically for "government officials" of China. This device is, for those of you wondering, actually 9,999 RMB in China, that converting over to be one and a half G's of pocket-pounding pain, or twice the cost of your average iPad! China is the most heavily populated country on earth with over 1.3 billion people living there as of 2010. By comparison, the US has over 307 million as of the census conducted in 2009. China has more people that use the internet than live in the US. The astonishing part is that China has over 200 million more people using the web than the entire US population. Read The Full Story

300 angry Foxconn workers in China threaten suicide over pay

Foxconn has been under intense scrutiny in the past after workers committed suicide by jumping from the top of the factory. Allegations have included long working hours and little pay. According to an anti-government website in China, 300 workers at a Foxconn factory at Foxconn Technology Park in Wuhan threatened to jump from the top of the building. Read The Full Story

iPhone 4S free in China, I told you so

This week its been announced by China Unicom that they’re offering up a deal in which if you sign up for a two year contract with them for mobile data, you get an iPhone 4S for free (connected to that contract) – this shouldn’t come as a surprise to you UK citizens, nor should it be unfathomable by those of you who read the opinion columns I write up here on SlashGear. If you live in the UK, you already know that you’ve been able to get the iPhone 4S for free on contract across your nation since it was launched.
