Chevy Volt is finally revealed

Just a few weeks ago we got a look at a Chevy Volt production model as it was being driven around on the set of Transformers 2. But now, Chevy has revealed the car officially and we’ve got the pictures to prove it.

Could an electric car that actually, you know, looks nice, be on the way? The Chevy Volt certainly does seem to possess a decent looking body, and though the spy shots don’t give a good idea of the car’s performance, it gives me hope.

This thing is freaking amazing, its made out of metal, can carry up to 8 people, and each “step” takes it 5 feet closer to its enemy, er, destination. It has a 454 Chevy V-8 engine that powers it with the current final drive ration being about 125:1.

If you’re going to win the DARPA autonomous vehicle challenge, you’ve got to be pretty clever; even so, when General Motors (GM) invited the SlashGear CES team to be passengers in their Chevy Tahoe self-driving SUV, there was a little apprehension about giving up the keys to a robot! Of course, we shouldn’t have been worried: with 25 sensors, including five radar units giving a 360-degree view of its surroundings, two lasers from specialist Continental and GPS, all feeding data about the driving environment and any potential obstacles into advanced behavior algorithms, the Tahoe had more eyes on the road than the team did!
