It’s the Chevy Corvette’s turn to get hacked

Car hacking seems to be the new black recently. As cars get smarter, they also become more enticing targets to hackers for both fun and profit. From wireless key fobs to Chrysler's Jeeps to GM's OnStar, it seems no car is safe. Not even Chevrolet's Corvette, apparently. Researchers from the University of California San Diego proved that this particular car, and probably others like it, are also susceptible to attacks, giving hackers unmitigated control over certain functions of the car, with some particularly dangerous consequences.

It seems that Chevrolet is going full steam ahead with the 2016 model of its hybrid electric vehicle, the Chevy Volt. Now it has a price tag in the US, and an even sweeter deal for those in California. But while it's mentioned to be cheaper than the current Volt model, it is only slightly so. The 2016 Volt carries an MSRP of $33,995. And in $825 for destination fees, which doesn't include tax, title, license and dealer fees, and you're just $1,200 shy of the current Volt titleholder.

2016 Chevy Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition to offer 650 horsepower

Today Chevrolet announced the upcoming arrival of its 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition, a limited edition rendition of its Corvette Racing C7.R racers. The car won’t be available until some time later on this year, and only 500 units will be made. When they do arrive, however, they’ll be offered in black and yellow livery with accents and interiors to match. Included with the models will be “a specially serialized” vehicle identification number, marking its limited-edition uniqueness, as well as the Z07 Performance Package.

Things aren't looking so good for General Motors' gas-electric hybrid, with the company revealing that Chevrolet Volt production will be suspended for four weeks this summer. The reason revolves around slow sales numbers, and is also to shift focus toward preparing for the upcoming 2016 Chevy Volt model, which will have certain different production requirements. The plant that makes the Volt will likely be staying open during the suspended production, however; that plant is under construction as GM preps to start building the new Volts and the Cadillac CT6.

General Motors is the latest auto maker to recall some vehicles due to overly sensitive controls -- in this case, the problem affects the Chevrolet Malibu. The affected cars span the 2013 to 2015 model years, and are afflicted with a problem we've been seeing a crackdown on lately: controls that are too sensitive, causing a setting to be changed (in this case, the sunroof to close) with only the slightest touch. Chevrolet has taken the wraps off a new concept truck at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, showcasing its Colorado ZR2 concept as an example of what could be for the midsize model's off-roading future. Chevy has based its concept on the ZR2 production model, as well as Colorado Z71's offerings, and included the new 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine for good measure.
