Chevy has pulled the wraps of the new Sonic RS sporty small car ahead of the official introduction at the North American International Auto show. The new RS version of the Sonic is aimed at younger drivers looking for a car with style that is still cheap to own and operate. The Sonic RS has a turbocharged engine at 1.4L displacement putting out 138HP and 148 lb-ft of torque.

GM tries to comfort Volt owners after fires during crash testing

GM tries to comfort Volt owners after fires during crash testing

GM has worked long and hard to bring the Volt to market and the car is now facing its biggest challenge with several fires erupting after crash tests. The car was originally unveiled back in 2007 and then it took longer than GM had hoped to get the car onto the market for consumers to buy. The Volt has hit a few speed bumps along the way, but the cars have been selling and are nice options for the green fans that want an EV but don’t want to worry about how far they can drive. The Volt can go 40 miles on battery power alone and has a range of 379 miles with the gasoline generator.

Chevy announces it will produce the Spark EV in 2013

Chevrolet has announced that it intends to produce the all-electric Spark EV. The spark is a mini car and will be sold in limited quantities in select markets around the country starting in 2013. The Spark is an urban car, so I would expect it would be offered only in urban areas. Chevrolet isn’t offering a huge amount of detail on the car at this point.

Chevy shows off actual Transformers: Dark of the Moon movie cars

I have enjoyed the Transformers films well enough. My kids liked the last film the best and it was one of the better ones in the franchise. If you have watched the film you have seen Bumblebee and Sideswipe during the flick. At the Texas State Fair, Chevrolet had both the Stingray Concept that was actually the Sideswipe car from the film and the actual Camaro that was Bumblebee in the film on hand.

Chevy shows off flying car at Texas State Fair

I think one of the coolest things that Chevy had in its display at the Texas State Fair auto show was this little matte colored version of the new small car called the Sonic. The first time I saw it sitting there, I thought it was a clay reproduction of the Sonic used for the design process. Then it started whirring and lifted into the air. It turned out that it was a full-scale model of the new Sonic that was controlled and is controlled by a big RC controller like an RC airplane.

Camaro ZL1: eyes-on the fastest Camaro ever made [Video]

Earlier this month I mentioned the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that had just gone official. The car sounds very cool on paper with a new 6.2L LSA V8 that has an Eaton supercharger strapped to it. The engine produces 580 HP and 556 lb-fit of torque. The engine is all aluminum for weight savings and the car is aimed at being very streetable, yet ready for the owner to take to the racetrack at any time.

Next-gen C7 Corvette to get 7-speed transmission and more

If you are a sports car fan, this is a great time to be a car geek. There are hoards of sports cars on the market and they are getting better all the time. The heyday of performance was the late 60's, but today I think, more is going on than there was decades ago. We have the new Camaro, the Mustang, and a bunch of other cars for fans to choose from. It's also getting close to the time for some of the most iconic cars in the country to get a refresh.

2012 Chevy Sonic gets 40 MPG on highway with 1.4L turbo power

2012 Chevy Sonic gets 40 MPG on highway with 1.4L turbo power

I am a fan of performance cars and it's great to see over the last year or so that the big automakers out there aren’t abandoning the performance crowd even though they are pushing for more efficiency. The Ford Mustang with the 5.0 is one of the most powerful Mustangs in history and still gets good fuel mileage. Not everyone that likes sporty performance cars wants a big V8. There are lots of people that want smaller engines with turbos and better fuel economy.
