MSI CES 2010 range hands-on: Wind U160, X-Slim, more

MSI have rolled out their CES 2010 line-up, and we stopped by to grab some hands-on time with the new laptops, netbooks and all-in-ones.  While the company might have made a particular name for itself with its budget Wind netbooks and X-Slim ultraportables - with the new Wind U160 and WiMAX-ready U135, together with the X-Slim X620 making their debut this week - they've also got some more horsepower-ready machines, including the Core i5- and i7-based G-Series gaming laptops.

Microsoft to unveil HP-made slate PC (Courier?) on Wednesday?

Microsoft to unveil HP-made slate PC (Courier?) on Wednesday?

Microsoft's push for the Tablet PC segment has earned them widespread ridicule and relatively minimal market penetration, something that's only beginning to change with the advent of lower-priced multitouch notebooks and netbooks that use a basic touch-UI rather than in-depth handwriting recognition and the like.  So we're not quite sure what Microsoft may have on the cards for CES 2010 tomorrow, what with the New York Times reporting that Steve Ballmer will take to the stage for his company's keynote clutching an HP-made slate.

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook/tablet hands-on

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook/tablet hands-on

Out of everything Lenovo have announced at CES 2010, the IdeaPad U1 Hybrid Notebook is perhaps the most eye-catching. We grabbed some hands-on time with the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid at CES Unplugged this evening; check out our first-impressions and video after the cut.

Parrot AR.Drone hands-on at CES 2010

We've always had a soft-spot for remote control helicopters here at SlashGear, and so Parrot's AR.Drone quadricopter - which throws iPod touch/iPhone remote control, video streaming, augmented reality gaming and military-spec auto-pilot functionality into the mixture - was bound to appeal. We caught up with Parrot at CES Unveiled this evening to grab some hands-on photos and video; check out our first-impressions after the cut.

Seagate BlackArmor PS110 USB 3.0 hard-drive plus interface kit

Seagate have become the latest hard-drive manufacturer to push out a USB 3.0 external HDD, in the shape of the Seagate BlackArmor PS110, and since they know that most users probably won't have a USB 3.0 port on their existing notebook they've thrown in a "portable external hard drive performance kit" too.  The kit includes the 500GB 7,200rpm PS110 external drive along with a PC Express card to add the requisite USB 3.0 port; once that's slotted into place you can expect sustained data transfer speeds of 100MB/s.

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook with removable Snapdragon screen-slate

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook with removable Snapdragon screen-slate

Lenovo's CES 2010 line-up has turned out to be one of the more interesting, with a solid range of updated mainstream notebooks accompanied by some more curious models such as the Skylight Smartbook and multitouch IdeaPad S10-3t.  However it looks like they've saved the best until last: the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is the industry's first hybrid notebook, a combination of a regular notebook form-factor with a removable 11.6-inch multitouch-capable capacitive touchscreen slate screen.  When docked, the IdeaPad U1 uses an Intel Core 2 Duo SU4100 processor, while the tablet section alone runs a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.
