A recent tip from a trusted source over at CrunchGear has just given some information on the newest Palm smartphone to be running the new Nova operating system. This new phone set to launch on Thursday is said to have a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard.

We kicked off the week with a review of HP’s MediaSmart EX487 Home Server, but after that brief dalliance with Microsoft it was Apple that caught most of the headlines.  Much of it is rumor, of course, about what will launch at Macworld next week – A new unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro with integrated battery?  A new Mac mini?  An iPod touch HD tablet? – but the Dev Team gave us something more concrete with the release of yellowsn0w.  If you’ve been waiting to unlock your iPhone 3G, now’s your chance.

Macworld is just around the corner, and so is CES 2009 .  You’ll not be surprised to hear, then, that the SlashGear team is getting ready to attend both events, bringing you the latest news and the most interesting updates.  Firstly we’ll be liveblogging Apple’s final keynote presentation at Macworld on Tuesday January 6th, kicking off 9am PST at http://live.slashgear.com.  Then our CES 2009 coverage begins, starting with press previews on Tuesday and running through to the weekend.

Reports are coming in and from all over the place revealing more specifications on the Sony P or  “Light” as it is being called. This news may or may not be true, but given the amount of time before Sony announces device at CES 2009 it is more than likely correct.

Ahead of their CES 2009 appearance, more details of the Viliv range from Yukyung Technologies have been emerging.  The S5 MID, which has been promised for early 2009 and boasts 1080p HD-capabilities, integrated 3G and a 4.8-inch touchscreen, has been demonstrating its “cube” GUI, an in-house development intended to make a desktop OS (like Windows XP) more finger- and stylus-friendly on the move.  Also, confirmation of further Viliv devices have been revealed.

originatic smart leaf 1Originatic will be launching their wall-mounted Smart-Leaf PC at CES next week, a space-saving design intended to offer internet access and other functionality to occasional users.  The all-in-one PC has a rugged build with fold-out, spill-proof keyboard, touchscreen and WiFi, together with options like a TV tuner.  Plus, as you can see from this picture, just one touch makes ladies very happy.

OQO will be launching a new version of their UMPC, the OQO Model 2+, at CES next week.  The updated handheld will use an Intel Atom 1.86GHz processor with 2GB of RAM and an OLED touchscreen.  It will also have worldwide 3G capabilities and, according to OQO, run twice as fast as the current model.

We love this time of the year taking stock of newest and greatest displays get ready for CES 2009. LG for instance, has unveiled ultra high contrast with million-value rating Trumotion 480Hz panel and a 24-inch monitor for CES 2009, here’s another with two million to one contrast ratio LCD with World’s thinnest title to boost.

LG’s 1,000,000:1 contrast HDTV isn’t the only LCD wonder they’re planning to demonstrate at CES next week.  Unable to keep it to themselves for another seven days, the company has announced the world’s first “Trumotion 480Hz” panel, a combination of LG’s existing 240Hz technology with a new backlight capable of being rapidly switched on and off.
