Because of my tendency to put items that don’t belong to me into my rucksack and curse loudly at people with beards, I wasn’t allowed to accompany the SlashGear team to CES this year. While at first I revelled in bitterness, I’ve now got over my seething anger and am enjoying the huge quantity of video footage from the exhibition. SlashGear’s own camcorder was present, but if you’ve been through our footage and are still hungry then you might want to head over to Charbax’s latest expo video blog.

A veteran of filming these tech free-for-alls, Charbax offers both Google Video and BitTorrent DIVX files, the latter of which have the added bonus of being in high-definition. He’s covered plenty, from the OLPC to Medion’s UMPC, and it’s well worth a look (or a download if you’ve got the bandwidth).

If power outtages have you worried over your precious computer servers, then Belkin’s Battery Backup with Flashlight will give you peace of mind. Just plug all your equipment into the device so that when the power goes off it will keep your connected equipment on long enough to let you shut them down and prevent data loss or hardware damage.

The detachable flashlight will automatically light up during power outtages so that you can use it to see when shutting down your system and finding your way to the exit. The Battery Backup with Flashlight will be available in mid-February for $99.99.

Say goodbye to those ol’ big eyeball-like plastic-encased webcams. As we can see from the evolutionary path of most gadgets, everything is heading towards being smaller and sleeker. Mustek’s got a new webcam coming out called the SI302A that is very small and very stylish in an aluminum casing that can clip to the top of your LCD monitor or sit on a flat surface.

The SI302A boasts an advanced ¼-inch CMOS sensor and an all-glass, auto focus lens that delivers awesomely clear videos. Natural 30fps video is achieved compression-free via the USB 2.0 interface and its 1280×1024 resolution (1.3 megapixels) is twice that of typical webcams. The SI302A also features a built-in condenser microphone for convenient video and audio chatting.

The webcam is expected to ship in March 2007, but the MSRP price has not yet been finalized.

Mobility Electronics brings us another such product called the iGo everywhere85 that’s a universal notebook power adapter in a small lightweight package.

The iGo everywhere85 is very compact and thin, featuring dualpower accessory, auto charging plug, and interchangeable tips for compatibility with a number of notebooks including those of Compaq, Dell, Gateway, HP, and Toshiba.

Users can also simultaneously charge their notebook and another device such as a mobile phone, Bluetooth headset, or MP3 player, eliminating the need to purchase and carry separate adapters. The iGo everywhere85 will be available in the first half of this year for $129.99.

If you have a bad sense of direction, then most likely you get lost not only while driving. And if you’re the outdoorsy type, often lost on a hike or a bike or a kayak, then it’s a good idea to get something like the Magellan CrossoverGPS. It’s claimed to be the first rugged, IPX4-waterproof, pocket-sized portable GPS for both in-car and outdoor navigation.

The Magellan CrossoverGPS comes with full-featured driving GPS guidance with turn-by-turn voice, text, and visual directions, preloaded topographic contour maps of the lower 48 states, a color touchscreen, and multimedia capabilities such as playing MP3s and picture viewing. It can also be upgraded to have live traffic updates and rerouting.

The unit measures just 3.4 x 4.3 x 1.1 inches and has an 8-hour battery life. Priced at $549.

You might think that being able to email everything these days along with the many internet faxing services available that good old fax machines would be obsolete. But that’s not the case, and there are many situations where simply dialing a number and feeding your documents through the good old fax machine totally beats scanning documents and then attaching or uploading them. Thus, it is nice to see the fax machine get some new styling with Canon’s new FAX-JX200.

The JX200 combines modern design, affordable pricing, and high quality construction and performance. It uses Canon’s Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) technology to produce crisp clear scans and copies with high speed 6-second page transmissions for fast and quiet faxing. It should be available early this year for around $80.

Manufacturers of super universal remotes have been in a competition to see who could cram the most buttons onto one plastic bar to create the ultimate monster controller. But this often made matters more complicated than simple for consumers. And Logitech was no exception with their Harmony 800 universal remote that had way too many buttons. And as if they’ve been listening to our complaints, they’ve recently come out with the Harmony 1000 that’s so simple and functional, it ought to set the new standard for universal remotes to come.

The Harmony 1000 can seamlessly control up to 15 separate components and features a 3.5-inch color touch-screen LCD display with a minimal amount of buttons on a sleek metal body. Setup is done via your computer where the wizard walks you through the process of selecting from Logitech’s large online database of over 4,500 manufacturers and over 150,000 devices.

So, if you really do have around 15 different remotes laying around on your coffee table or in the cracks and crevices of your couch, you should definitely consider replacing everything with one Harmony 1000. But, at $500, this type of convenience doesn’t come cheap.

While many people attempt to clutter their desktops with extra monitors and peripherals, Belkin is thinking less is more. If you have two computers or one computer and one notebook, why have two different speakers systems when you’ll only be using one at a time? Or, lets say you have a huge Apple cinema display. Perhaps, your notebook and computer can both share that one display and you can flip back and forth with just the click of a button.

Belkin’s Flip DVI-D does the trick by letting you share your keyboard, mouse, speakers, and DVI monitor. The unobtrusive remote button sits on your desk while the hub can be hidden below connecting all your peripherals. The device will be available in February for $149.99.

Harmon Kardon recently announced their Guide+Play fully integrated navigation and multimedia automotive solution. This compact navigation device strives to differentiate itself not only by Harmon Kardon’s signature quality audio but also by offering consumers the capability to enable multimedia functions while still allowing navigation to do its job. By using a unique layering interface, there is no frustration in going back and forth between the navigation menu and the music menu.

The Guide+Play is incredibly slim and portable at 19.6mm thin and includes pivoting mount, integrated navigation and multimedia applications, a 4” widescreen display, and a battery life of around 5 hours. It is currently retailing for around $500.

We’re quite accustomed now to seeing people wearing Bluetooth headsets on one ear and looking like they’re ridiculously talking to themselves. But soon we may be seeing people walking around with one Bluetooth headset in each ear. And that wont be for talking on two cell phones simultaneously, but rather, for listening to music. At least, that’s what Jabra is offering with their BT8010 model.

Considering that many cell phones now can play mp3s, Jabra believes its more convenient for folks to have the option of putting in one earpiece for taking calls and then putting in a second earpiece for listening to music in stereo. The BT8010 is scheduled for release in the beginning of this year and will be available at all Verizon Wireless retail stores and online store for around $149.

Aimed at being a company of innovation, Joby has brought us the unique Gorillapod and is now announcing a line of Bluetooth headsets scheduled for release in Q2 of 2007. This ultra lightweight and stylish headset features a unique adjustable earpiece that attaches via magnet and also a retractable microphone.

The unit has 10 hours of talk time or 12.5 days standby time and can be recharged via USB. Unfortunately all the pictures we took of the prototype at CES turned out blurry–if only we had a Gorillapod at the time. So we’ve borrowed the lovely image above from Gizmodo.

While at CES this past week, we also dropped by Pepcom’s Digital Experience event where besides good food and fully costumed pirates walking around, we saw a bunch of the latest gadgets. We came across Samsung’s new digital cameras, the S630 and the S730 as well as their NV series of digital cameras that feature an innovative navigation control system and gun-inspired styling.

Although the S630 and S730 were just announced at CES, it was the NV7OPS that really caught our attention. The NV7OPS is a slim-bodied 7.2 megapixel digital camera featuring 7x optical zoom, Optical Picture Stabilization, 2.5-inch LCD, MPEG4 VGA(640×480) 30fps video capability, and a unique ‘Smart Touch’ navigation interface (shown below).
However eating a lot of “good and tasty” food does make my belly flip flap a little. Accufat, a subcutaneous fat analyzer is a device that will give you pretty scary details on how much fat your body have.

It stored those analysis information into its built in storage and allows you to transfer the data to your computer. One of our editor (from SlashGear Japan) have a test drive of it in CES 2007 and finds it pretty simple to operate. The Accufat will cost $1500.

Their original silicone cases come in almost every color imaginable with many different themes and texturing. The textured silicone not only protects but also has a very unique tactile quality.

This unique personal simulation system provides a whole body total immersion gaming experience right in your own home. We couldn’t help but migrate towards this large contraption at the CES 2007 ShowStoppers event. One of our editors took it for a spin and as you can see from that big smile she really enjoyed it. Not only can you rotate, you can also twist, tilt, and pan thanks to its unique patented multimodal crown support from which players are suspended.

Both domestic and commercial versions will be released, but the domestic version does not need its own power source and can connect and get power directly from your PC. And it’s easy to setup and store. Expect it to be available in March 2007 for around $1700.

Based on the DECT standard, a full-colour screen, speakerphone and capacity for up to four handsets registered to each base-station round out what’s on offer for the $199.99 MRSP. It’s available now.

Vizualogic have so-far specialised in in-car video entertainment, with a range of LCD screens for either embedding in headrests or to drop down from the roof-lining, but when they announced a Media on Demand unit I got a bit excited – would this be some sort of mobile IPTV device that lets you tune in to movies of your choice while on the highway? Sadly it’s nothing so exciting: it’s a portable media serving hard-drive, powered by an Intel Celeron M processor, satellite radio and with built-in GPS for navigation.

Plug and play with all of their displays, it apparently has a straightforward software interface to access all your DVDs, music, photos, games and downloaded content. It’ll be available first-quarter 2007 for around $699.

CES 2007: Sneak peek at new Mio DigiWalker™ C520 and C250; Sizzling H610

Coming off a breakout year in the U.S. GPS market, Mio Technology is showcasing its full line of stylish navigation and entertainment devices at CES 2007 and is giving attendees a sneak peak at two new products set to launch later this year—the Mio DigiWalker™ C520, a widescreen portable navigation device and the DigiWalker C250, an entry-level, easy-to-use GPS device with an MP3 player.

The C520 features a widescreen 4.3” display and a low-profile design with Bluetooth support and unique split-screen display, which allows for address lookup or route information while the map, is visible.

The C250 is perfect for anyone looking for real-time directions or entertainment while driving, whether this is their first GPS device or simply looking for a full-featured, value-packed device. The pocket-sized unit features a black chassis, 3.5” touch-screen display and comes ready to operate in minutes with no computer setup.

On display in the Mio Technology booth is the popular Mio DigiWalker™ H610, widely considered one of the “must have” gifts of the past holiday season. The device was named one of BusinessWeek’s “Best Products of 2006,” was featured in TIME Magazine’s Cool Gear Tech Buyer’s Guide; was selected as InformationWeek’s GPS of choice in its holiday gift guide and an “Editor’s Top Five Holiday Pick” by PC World Canada. The H610 was also recently featured as a top tech gift on the “Martha Stewart Show” and was given to audience members during “Dr. Phil’s” holiday show.

Ultra-portable and stylish, the H610 is a unique, handheld personal navigation and digital entertainment device that can be used while driving to a meeting, bicycling through town or walking through a new city. The device combines high fashion, highly accurate GPS functionality, comprehensive point-of-interest (POI) location and a feature-rich digital media player in a trendy, portable package. The unit retails for $499.99 and is currently available at Fry’s Electronics and Circuit City, as well as online at Staples.com, BestBuy.com and Crutchfield.com.

I left my two pet rabbits Fluffy and Bobo at home alone, so that I could make it here to CES. In my rush, I forgot to leave my house keys with a friend. And now I could only wish I had a XANBOO AT&T Remote Monitor system setup. The starter kit is priced around $99. Users can view live video, monitor doors and windows, control lights, check their home’s temperature, and much more on a secure website using any web enabled Cingular Wireless mobile device. If only I had it, I could check right now to see if Fluffy and Bobo haven’t already trashed my house.
