The short walk to the Germany Pavilion turned out to be nearly 20 minutes long, in the rain. Then I waited another 20 minutes outside. Once inside, O2 made the crowd wait over 2 hours before the SUGABABES utter a single melody. Sad indeed. I would have left, but the folks I went with wanted to stay – at least for the first song. So I waited.

Enjoy the short clip of the SUGABABES opening number. And by the way, you better enjoy it because take videos wasn’t permitted.

I’m not sure if Vincent has had a bad experience in the past with a Brother printer, or if he just enjoys seeing a lady pummelling inflatables, but what I do know is that his cries of “harder! harder!” will likely haunt my dreams tonight.

Reports that this is a new USB teleconferencing accessory designed to recreate that “punch the boss in the nose, that dumb schmuck” moment for off-site workers have so far failed to provoke comment from Brother’s PR department. Similarly rumours of an inflatable chair version with Steve Ballmer branding are yet to be confirmed.

With a name like “iTablet” and a glistening white colour scheme, it’s obvious which company AMtek is trying to provoke comparisons to with its latest Tablet PC. It’s an old – and unimpressive – routine, and frankly they don’t really need the name; it’s an attractive unit in its own right. Anyway, associations aside, AMtek’s latest runs XP not Vista and, according to their site at least, has an odd mix of decent and bland features.

Case in point: size is great, with the whole thing being only a little larger than the 12.1-inch display, just 0.94-inch thick and less than 3.3lbs on the scales. Shame it’s an XGA, 1024 x 768 panel, rather than a higher-res SXGA+ one as seen on some competitors. Reported battery life is fair too, at four hours, but you might be spending a lot of that time waiting for it to churn along since it apparently only supports a maximum of 1GB RAM. Processor choices of Pentium Ms ranging from 1.0GHz to 1.5GHz are par for the course, but the base 40GB hard-drive is a tad stingy.

There’s WiFi in ‘b’ and ‘g’ forms onboard, but no Bluetooth, and that docking station might have a broad bevy of ports as well as space for an optical drive but is an optional extra.

It’s possible that these demo models at CeBIT 2007 are better spec’d than anything the website has to say; hopefully our man Vincent Nguyen, who took these photos, will be able to fill us in on the details.

So you’ve bought into the Tablet PC lifestyle but you can’t afford to buy an actual Tablet PC… or maybe you’re wondering just how much you’d actually use the pen after a lifetime of mousing. NAVIsis would rather like you to look to their add-on products, then, which promise to bring the joys of ink to your desktop or laptop. They’re at CeBIT showing off the LaptopTablet, a chunky little bar that clips to the side of your notebook’s screen and monitors the position of a special pen, and that will work seamlessly with certain versions of Vista’s inbuilt Tablet PC functionality.

Suitable for notebook screens up to 14.3-inches in size, and with a sampling resolution of around 400DPI, it means you can use ink annotation in Word and hand-drawn pictures in MSN Messenger. NAVIsis also offer a TabletMouse product which is basically a desktop graphics tablet only without the platter, the NaviNote which clips to paper and tracks what you write, and the EZ-Canvas which can be used with desktop monitors up to 17-inches in size.

Connecting via USB and using ultrasonic and InfraRed to communicate with the pen (although wired versions are also available), the one big difference between the NAVIsis products and a Tablet PC-proper is pressure sensitivity. Most active-screen Tablet PCs use Wacom’s technology, which can differentiate between various levels of pressure and adjust the “flow” of ink accordingly. That makes for realistic artwork and a more natural interaction.

Still, with prices starting at just over £90 ($174) it’s a far cheaper way to get started with pen computing than splashing out on a Tablet PC.

The Bathroom Mirror TV by ad notam is one of many futuristic products currently available for consumers on display at Lifestyle@CeBIT. This is a very short teaser for the full article to be published Monday.

The Bathroom Mirror TV line redefines the wall-mounted bathroom mirror. It offers a complete solution for your bathroom mirror, with a fully integrated TV, and a speaker.

It is custom engineered for the harsh environment; where it’s well protected against humidity by a special casing, and is explicitly rated for operation in the bathroom.

The Bathroom Mirror TV line is available in several mirror dimensions, and it can be customized to fit any bathroom sizes; for those who can afford it. If you have to ask how much, then it’s obvious you cannot afford it.

I will cover other ad notam products in my full LifestyleCeBIT coverage.

The LG Prada phone is definitely catering towards fashion conscious people (more specifically women). The handset is slim, intuitive to use and oozes sex appeal.

Running through the menu, I’ve discovered the UI is easy enough to use if you don’t mind it not having physical keys.

It’s highly pocket able, so if you’re planning on getting one (only available in Europe) make sure to NOT leave it sitting on table in the bar or at the office. Someone will swipe it before you can say, “hot damn”.

I’m pretty happy I finally got a chance to muck with the Prada phone after writing so many articles about it. In closing, it’s not an iPhone nor will does it try to be an iPhone clone. If you’re looking for a phone-phone, it’s the sexiest on the market. If you’re looking for an iPhone, get the iPhone. There’s just no substitution for the real deal.

Digital Cube have made good on their promise to shrink down their first UMPC to the market from the over-sized booth model, and the result – called the G43 – is a dinky delight. You’ll need decent eyes, though; rather than the typical 7-inch display commonly found on its UMPC brethren the G43 goes for a squint-tastic 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 touch screen.

Inside, we knew it was an AMD Geode CPU and it turns out to be an LX800/900 running at 500MHz; that’s backed up with WiFi in ‘b’ and ‘g’ flavours, Bluetooth, either 30GB or 60GB of hard-drive space, innovative touch-pad for mousing on the right side, USB and a speaker-dock.

The pared back processor will limit it to XP or Linux – not Vista - but to my mind that won’t be the limiting factor. It’s that screen, falling in-between PDA and typical UMPC, that will make using XP Tablet Edition’s (surprisingly accurate) handwriting recognition features cramped and difficult. It’ll be interesting to see a comparative review between the G43 and the HTC Ameo.

The Samsung Ultra Smart F700 has been more than adequately covered on SlashGear and My iPhone. What’s been missing is our very own hands-on with the handset. Others have video coverage of the Ultra Smart F700, but none of them will show you what you’re about to watch. Gizmodo ran an article titled “Samsung F700 Video Tease: Look, But Don’t Touch.” You’ll see that this isn’t the case, because I’m all over it!

It was unfortunate that the Ultra Smart F700 was locked in some mysterious way that “none of us” (including the Samsung PR folks) could unlock. I presume the individual screens weren’t ready for public viewing, so that may be the real reason. So this hands-on is really just that – a hands-on look. NOTE: you’re going to here words like “not stable” used in the video below in reference to it keep shutting off. I think the battery was completely drained – which could be the root cause. Enjoy the videos and the image gallery!

[Vincent’s observation] The Ultra Smart F700 will kick some major butt – LG Prada and iPhone watch your backs. The handset feels extremely compact, literally becomes one with your hand. The touch screen “vibrates” every time you touch it. The keypad feels really good to the fingers and offers a solid tactile feedback when pressed. If fingerprints drive you nuts, you’re going to be busy whipping them off. The glossy material is sexy and attractive to look at, but it’s also high maintenance to keep shiny.

That’s all I have for now, but will return to the booth for a second attempt to see if I can get a real hands-on with the Ultra Smart F700. Make sure to visit visit the CeBIT 2007 image gallery to view the rest of the images of the Ultra Smart F700 as well as other images from the fair.

The Samsung Q1 Ultra is possible one of the best ultra-mobile pc ever created. This time, I really mean it. No, seriously, I really, really, really mean it this time. There isn’t much time for me to show you all the video footages from the press conference, but over the next day or so I’ll upload them for you to see for yourself.

There’s no doubt that the Q1 Ultra is eye-catching and practical in design. Its QWERTY keypad and stylus pen makes it practical and mobile without any extra accessories.

Long live, the Q1 Ultra’s battery life! The Q1 Ultra offers over 3.5 hours on a standard 4-cell battery, while the optional 6-cell battery guarantees over 6.8 hours.

The Q1 Ultra is a sleek little PC that travels like a pro, where ever, when ever and do what ever you want it to do. It’s compact body measures under 23.9mm deep and weighs just 690g (w/o DMB).

Ok, I have to give it to Microsoft for giving the Q1 Ultra a few new really cool tricks like full screen viewing of web pages, as well as “pen flicking” which is similar to what you can do on the Apple iPhone. By turning pages, you simply need to “flick” the pen forward or backward. That’s just too cool. The video for this feature will be up shortly, so look for it in the next day or so.

Samsung seems to really listen to their users. The company conducted numerous studies to find out how users use their Q1. As a result, Samsung learned that users are satisfied with the PC full functionality, touch screen, design, and screen size. However, there needs to be an addition of a physical keyboard, better battery life, connectivity and the overall size of the device.

This next feature, the “Finger Print” is possibly one of my favorite features on the Q1 Ultra. It’s simple to use and highly secure. You know how cumbersome and tiresome it can be going to a website where you’re required to enter your user id and password? Well, the Finger Print takes care of that for you. Simply swipe your finger down the strip and it fills in your predefined ID and password. That’s way too cool! The demo video will be up shortly for your viewing pleasure.

The mouse and joystick and definitely going to add ease of use!

When you need a camera, or two, for video chatting or taking pics – they’re ready to go. A front mounted camera allows for video chatting, while the second camera is conveniently located on the backside.

The Q1 Ultra’s Super Bright 7-inch WSVGA screen supports native 1024×600 with 300 nit brightness. There are some improvements in the touch screen to accommodate “finger” usages.

If HSDPA and WiBro is more your thing, then fret no more. The Q1 Ultra’s HSDPA and WiBro will access you to the Internet anywhere (where services are available. Other connectivity supports include WLAN 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, and Wires LAN.

The lucky folks in Korea will enjoy Digital Multimedia Broadcasts (DMB). This feature allows users access to live television and audio channels anywhere for instant entertainment.

Optional accessories such as an external optical disk drive, stylus pen, extra battery, car dock and GPS solutions will complete your ultimate experience with the Q1 Ultra.

Here’s the image gallery for the new Samsung q1 Ultra. The official press announcement is in 20 minutes – so I won’t have much time to upload the video I took earlier this morning. I’ll upload the walk through videos for your viewing pleasure as soon as the press conference ends.

A few highlights of the q1 Ultra include the split keyboards on the left and right hand side. There’s now 1Gb DDR RAM, 0.3-megapixel camera on the front for video conferencing or whatever you want to use it for. There is also a second camera mounted on the backside.

Samsung is also releasing a bunch of accessories to go along with the q1 Ultra. I also have the video but cannot upload until later today.

Price is still unknown until the official press conference.

Ok, I need to run downstairs for the conference. Make sure to check back later for more detail information on the q1 Ultra.

Make sure to check the image gallery for more images!

And I thought I was Q1 Ultra obsessed! Jenn has been prowling the Samsung Exhibition website and, with a little digging (and a whole lot of generic text place-holders and crappy coding) she’s found the official press photos for their new UMPC.

It’s looking even better in higher-resolution, don’t you think? I’m particularly liking those edge-mounted speakers, which have had to shift round from their position on the front bezel in previous models thanks to the thumbboard’s inclusion.

To find the shots yourself, you’ll need to follow Jenn’s instructions:

“They’re hidden under the laser printer picture shown in the “Exhibition Highlight” box at the bottom left. Clicking it launches a microsite that requires some patience to sit through (I’m not a fan of “live typing” ads), but after that it isn’t difficult to find the Q1 Ultra section”

Dear Samsung – please show us the back of the Q1 Ultra. I’d love to be surprised with a docking station connector round there!

Navigon has now made its first steps into making its own hardware: the 7100 and 5100 navigation system at CeBIT 2007. The highlight features of the 7100 includes Bluetooth hands-free system, 4.3-inch color display in an easy-to-view 16:9 widescreen format, new “Real View” function, exclusive lane assistance, free traffic jam reports, voice input, and PIN code security function. The Navigon 5100 is very similar the 7100 with the exception of the 3.5-inch color display.

So what’s the big deal about this new feature called “Reality View”? If you have ever used a navigational system, you may have noticed how confusing it is to read traffic conditions. This view mode displays signposts realistically, giving you the information needed to move into the correct lane easily. As mentioned above, the 16:9 color display intelligently formats the Navigon 7100 with 2D or 3D map display selection.

Red dot design honored the Navigon 7100 as “best of the best 2007”. Out of 2,548 submissions, it is one of only 10 that got the exclusive award for innovative functionality, the ultimate in quality and ease of handling, as well as a sweet looking design and intelligent orientation aid.

The Navigon 7100 (regional maps) and 7100 (map of Europe) will be available this summer for 450 euros and at 500 euros respectively. The Navigon 5100 and 5110 will also be available at 350 euros and at 400 euros respectively. I don’t have a definite release date for US yet, but will do my best to track it down.

Amen for Steve! Risking life, limb and camera the plucky pilot of the UMPCPortal squared up to pushy security guards to snap some photos of Samsung’s latest UMPC, in the process confirming that it really is going to be called the Q1 Ultra. Naming issues aside, the unit itself looks pretty gorgeous (though the original Q1 was no slouch in that department either) and seems to have some arching to the design that probably makes typing on the thumbboard easier.

Steve managed a single finger-press before being forcibly evicted from the stand; apparently it’s a good keyboard, however, more tactile than the PepperPad 3. I’m assuming he learnt that from the demo devices, rather than just a single press of one key!
