Ever since the creation of consoles, gamers have been modifying their systems for multiple reasons. Some were seeking more performance, others were unlocking game secrets, or some just wanted to make their console look cool. Calibur11 delivers on the latter. They have some killer designs that can totally change the look of your Xbox, and there are some mods for Wii and PS3 in the works.

The case mods come in the standard bright colors like red and green, but they also have a licensed mod, (we would love to see more licensed gear). The components do not alter the console, so no need to worry about voiding the warranty or being banned from the on-line community. Calibur11 calls the mods Vaults, and they go over the console. We were initially skeptical of a wrap-around skin. We thought it would cause system overheating, but Calibur11 states the Vault will actually help protect the console from damage and increase air flow to allow better cooling.

They also offer customizable name plates, (free with Vault purchase). They are available in 10 custom colors like machine gun rounds or tribal swirl pattern. You can have you name or any other text printed. How many characters you get is determined by the font and font size you choose. The standard colors of black, white, gray, red, blue, and green retail for $59.99, while the licensed Vaults run $89.99. We like what we see, we just wish they had more selection. Not everyone wants to trick out their console, but these Vaults look way more legit than some of the stickers and spray paint we’ve seen. Have a look at a collection of case mods Caliber11 have done in the past:

Richard Nagy wowed us when he created the Datamancer steampunk laptop a while back. Those wishing to add a Victorian flair to their PC need not wait longer. Pre-orders are now being taken for these eclectic works of art. The pre-order price is $5,500, which is pretty steep for a laptop, but this is not just a laptop. The brass and copper workings of gears and sprockets actually work.

The case is beautiful, and has antique claw feet, copper keys, matching antiqued keyboard and mouse, and turns on and off via an antique style clock winding key. Very custom and very intricately handcrafted, the creation is a perfect combination of wood, glass, metal, and even some modern electronics. Currently only available in PC, Nagy said he might be willing to install a Mac OS for select enthusiasts.

The PC in the video is an HP ZT1000 laptop, but Nagy said he would most likely build newer units using a Lenovo Netbook or possibly something similar. But this is obviously more a work of art than a laptop. Anyone interested in this device is probably not concerned about benchmark results. There are other case mods on the market, but this takes it to a whole new level.

OMG! I am a big fan of Tron. I watched the original as a kid and really liked the new flick too. My favorite thing about Tron has always been the lightcycles. I spent more quarters than I can count in the arcade in the 80′s when I was a kid playing the official video game trying to perfect my lightcycle combat. A new case mode that has surfaced today is one of the coolest I have ever seen and it looks like a lightcycle.

The detail that the builder put into this case is just insane. The design is based on the lightcycles from the new flick and it is made in the appropriate glossy black with blue lighting. In one of the photos, the guy has paired the case mod with a keyboard and mouse from Razer that has the same blue lighting. From what I can tell inside the case are an EVGA mainboard and a custom liquid cooling solution with the appropriate glowing blue fluid.

The coolest part of the entire case mod for me is the way the guy made the custom curved radiator that sits inside the rear wheel. The designer says that the case mod required lots of time in a 3D program for the design to be able to make the case small and fit all the hardware inside. The main parts are made from cut acrylic. This guy deserves to win whatever the contest is that the case is entered into, so vote for this!

If you are like me you may appreciate a cool case mod for a computer or game console, but lack the artistic skill and vision needed to roll your own mod. In that instance there is a new case for the Xbox 360 called the MLG Vault case that looks like a custom casemod, but is a readymade case that just wraps around your game console.

One side of the MLG Vault is a bronze looking mask that has eyes that glow in different colors. On the other side of the case is what appears to be Donald Duck’s mouth. That Donald snout is designed to hold your headphones when you aren’t wearing them.

The catch to this case is that it will only fit the new slim black version, if you are rocking the original Xbox 360 design you are out of luck. The case will also support custom name badges and is supposed to leave the ventilation on the case unaffected to prevent overheating.

The Radius PC is meant to be a desktop workstation. Instead of putting your tower on the floor near your feet, instead you’ll put it up on your desk, where a traditional monitor would go. Turn it to the side, and you’ll see a 17-inch display with a resolution of 1900 x 1200. The Radius is apparently great for processing videos while you’re at a live event. And thanks to the padded handle, you’ll be able to lug the tower everywhere you want to go.

If you’re interested, you can set up your Radius with either an AMD Phenom II processor, Intel’s Core i7 or Xeon. You can choose to have up to 24GB of DDR3 RAM, a DVD drive, and up to nine 2.5-inch SATA hard drives. Graphics can be chosen from either AMD or NVIDIA.

Having a customized PC case, whether for just showing off to people or for your favorite gaming rig, usually means that it’s stuck in the room you put it in, without much of an option to actually carry it places. But, thanks to a scooterputer, that’s not really an issue, considering the PC is actually part of the scooter. That gives you the ability to tuck away plenty of power for your gaming needs, but also have that portability you might have desired so much.

This particular set-up consists of a Thermaltake Element V case, surrounding plenty of options. The scooter is a 24v rechargeable electric one, which has been extended by 11-inches to make more room for the PC that’s sitting on it. As for the features of the PC itself, the owner set it up to feature an Intel Core i7 processor, GTS 250 graphics, 4GB of RAM, a USB 3.0 port, three RAIDed hard drives, and a dual-layer DVD burner. The power supply is a Thermaltake TR2 1200 Watt version. The rig is even water-cooled, with Thermaltake’s Big Water 850I kit.

The scooter’s handlebars, seat, and fender were all brought together from different scooters. The scooterputer also features a working brake light, a front light that’s halogen, and a horn. If that’s not enough, there are even working LED ground effects, and functioning parking lights. Check it out on video below.

Grafted on the remote control chassis are a plastic gun for fragging dust bunnies and robotic arm for holding your headphones. The robot case is on a platform that uses rubber belts of some sort for motivation tank style.

The case at the heart of the design is a Thermaltake Level 10. The machine is dubbed the Rog-R and was designed by Stephen LeatherFace Popa. The thing is really cool, even if it’s massive. I wonder if it has enough power to tow a game geek in his rolling office chair to and from the bathroom.

I have seen some really cool casemods over the years. I am partial to the ones that have lots of attention to detail. A geek has taken two of his loves and combined them in an epic mash up of beer and PC gaming. The details on the computer he put inside this keg are scant, but really who cares what the hardware is.

The dude took an old, beat up Anheuser-Busch keg and cut some windows into the thing. He then cut the bottom off so he could slip those PC components inside and powered coated the whole thing black. After the powder coating was done some chrome trim went on to finish the bling.

Inside the keg PC the dude added some blue lights. It won’t hold beer any more naturally, but it has a bottle opener on the side to open your favorite bottled beverage.

For some, having a case mod that looks both artistically amazing and absolutely ridiculous at the same time is a life-long dream. For most of them, they get the tools and create their dream project, making it a reality. That’s exactly what Daniel HeiBe did, who is actually no stranger to making remarkably unique case mods. His latest one, which will probably take the cake for outright uniqueness, is made completely out of concrete.

The concrete PC case mod was made as part of a case mod contest. Just by looking at it, we can tell that the construction time on this had to be huge, but the overall payout is probably more than worth it. It’s certainly unique, but we can’t help but wonder how heavy it is. Just looking at it hurts our backs. While the concrete case mod is impressive in of itself, HeiBe’s previous works include a treek trunk case mod, and one that looks like a small sail, which featured 24-carat leaf gliding. Obviously, HeiBe loves his case mods.

Ben Heck may not be in the tech news every day, but that doesn’t stop him from creating some of the best casemods anyone has ever seen. This time around, he’s managed to get the new Xbox 360 Slim tucked away into a nice case, where portability becomes a real option. As anyone who keeps track of Heck’s work can attest, the new set-up may not be for everyone, but there’s certainly some improvements made that would make anyone take a second look.

According to Heck, this new Xbox 360 casemod is about 1.5 inches skinnier, and an inch shorter than the Xbox 360 mod he created back in 2009. Pretty impressive when you consider that the system now has the power supply inside the box, and manages to run even quieter than before. Heck managed to make sure that the 360 Slim’s touch-sensitive Power and Eject buttons still work, too.

You’ll be playing your favorite Xbox 360 titles on the 17-inch Gateway LCD, which will let you enjoy your games in glorious 720p HD. Unfortunately, you won’t be finding these new casemods in any of your local electronic retailers. Ben Heck has made three models, one of which he plans to give away on his new show. The other two will be available through his store, so if you’ve got the funds saved up, you can buy yourself one.

One of my all time favorite video games on the PC was Bioshock. The game had a great storyline and fantastic graphics in a creepy environment that made me jump more than once. A dude has taken the Bioshock theme and used it to create his own casemod.

The guy submerged all the components of his PC except for the storage drive in a small plastic aquarium filled with mineral oil. The guy mounted the mainboard, which runs an Intel Atom processor, and the power supply to an acrylic sheet that sits at the back of the case. The mineral oil was purchased online and it took four gallons. Disgustingly the stuff is actually sold as a horse laxative.

The guy picked up a Big Daddy figure on Amazon and crammed it inside the case to protect his hardware. The other components of the system are straight out of the fish department at your local pet store with black gravel, a bubble filter, and a few other things. Check out the video below.

Casemod’s for the Xbox 360 aren’t as universally accepted as they are for, say, PCs, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less compelling. This new one takes on the likeness of Iron Man, the Marvel superhero, and even includes that noteworthy Arc Reactor right there on the side. And, as many cool things should be, this one’s up for eBay auction, where the price (as of the time of this writing) is pegged at $910, with just over five days remaining.

The Xbox 360 itself is one of the older models, so it’s not as small or angular as the newer slimmed down versions. And while that Arc Reactor is awesome in the sense that it has real working blue LEDs, we would have been even more impressed if it had a working fan to help cool the older console. But, beggars can’t be choosers. The ‘box comes from a 19-year old sculpture student, and we’ve got to admit that his handiwork is plenty noticeable. The gold and red box will surely attract plenty of stares, especially from your friends with their boring white or black boxes sitting under their TVs. Anyone willing to drop just about $1,000 for this thing? If not more?
