PS3 owners who want to get a taste of the latest is survival horror action will have to wait a couple months. That is, unless they also have an Xbox 360. Publisher Capcom has decided to bring the Resident Evil 6 demo to Microsoft’s console ahead of its Sony rival. No doubt it has some coaxing from Microsoft, which has almost single-handedly brought the phrase “timed exclusivity” to mainstream lexicon.

The biggest irritant to PS3 gamers is that the Xbox 360 gets Call of Duty add-on content months before they do, but this time the timed exclusivity bit happens before the base game is even released. The RE6 demo will go live for Xbox 360 owners on July 3, while anyone wanting to sweat through the preview with a DualShock will have to wait until September 4. That’s the way the cookie crumbles.

A Capcom spokesperson was quoted by GamingTarget.com as saying, “This was a strategic business decision.” As a footnote, this demo will only be available to gamers who purchase the other Capcom title Dragon’s Dogma, which launches on May 22. Those who have no interest in Dogma will have to wait until September 20, when it will be generally available to both platforms.

Following several leaks and a strange viral ad campaign, Capcom has finally confirmed its much anticipated Resident Evil 6. The company not only announced the game, but also revealed the release date along with a trailer and new artwork. The game will launch for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 20, 2012, with a PC version to be released later.

Resident Evil 6 is being called “the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year.” Capcom went on to reveal the first official plot details:

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

As for the viral ad campaign for Resident Evil 6, which involved graffiti billboards across the world with the words “No Hope Left” that pointed folks to the website NoHopeLeft.com, Capcom doesn’t confirm its connection to the ad. However, some sleuthing by a gaming group, The Sixth Axis, has already confirmed that the ads were placed by Capcom.

Tomorrow is the day we’ll find out if it’s all true, or if what’s true ends up being that Capcom is revealing a new game after their rather strange viral ad campaign “No Hope Left” complete with graffiti, a nameless blog, and video of a woman freaking out. While some of you have been following this campaign for a week or so, it’s only today that we’re finding out for sure that it’s all tied to the gaming group, as Tuffcub from thesixthaxis has successfully sleuthed out. As it turns out, one of the graffiti photos posted this week was taken near this fellow’s home, and upon closer inspection he found that it wasn’t graffiti at all, but one big hoax.

Of course there’s no such thing as a hoax when the group responsible doesn’t specifically tell you that it’s supposed to be something that it’s not, right? What Tuffcub did was to contact the group whose billboard it was to see who rented the area at that time, and what do you know? They had the answer, of course, as they’re required to by law.

Panel number is 2375 03 Parry Street. The company advertising on it is CAPCOM.

You can find the rest of the loosely strewn campaign across nohopeleft.com where the nameless set of adverts are crowned with a strange video of a “real” woman speaking to her significant other, only to be attacked by… something or other. This all falls in line with what’s known in Japan as the game series “BioHazzard.” The USA version of the series is called Resident Evil.

Now we must assume that this campaign is not made for the prequel game Resident Evil: Revelations, as that game has already been announced as going on sale on the 26th. Instead, given that the date January 19th, 2012 (tomorrow) has been dropped a few times in the timeline on the campaign site, it’s gotta be Resident Evil 6. Sound reasonable to you? We’ll find out tomorrow for sure!

LG has inked a deal with CAPCOM that will see Street Fighter IV offered on the company’s first HD smartphones in Q4 this year, presumably including the LG LU6200 Android handset leaked last Friday. According to LG, the classic game will be offered exclusively via their site for LG device owners for three months, once the first HD-capable Android handsets from the firm are on sale.

That, the Korean company expects, should be in Q4 2011 sometime, giving us a release window for the LU6200 too. That handset has a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 AH-IPS display, 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor with dual Scorpion cores, 1GB of RAM and Adreno 220 graphics. There’s also LTE, NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi and DMB, though that may change for versions of the LU6200 outside of Korea.

Those specs should be perfectly up to running Street Fighter IV, and LG is positioning the title as a showcase for its HD display abilities. ”As we prepare our first HD smartphone for launch, it was important for us to be able to offer HD content that would really demonstrate this phone’s benefits” Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile says. “The HD version of Street Fighter certainly fills this objective. We are also confident that LG’s soon-to-be-unveiled HD display technology will give Street Fighter fans a whole new reason to play the game again.”

Of course, Samsung also has some HD mobile goodness incoming, in the shape of the 5.3-inch 1280 x 800 Samsung Galaxy Note, and the firm is believed to be readying a new “Galaxy S III” with a similarly capable display. Whether Samsung will have the games to demonstrate the worth of such a panel remains to be seen.

Ebullient gamer-glee this morning, as the Resident Evil Revelations trailer leaks ahead of the title’s expected official debut at the Tokyo Game Show next week. Headed to the Nintendo 3DS in early 2012, the game is set in-between Resident Evil 4 and 5 in terms of in-story timeline, and will feature – going by this demo at least – a somewhat unimaginative mixture of busty ladies and skintight wetsuits.

Still, it’s a formula that has sold plenty of titles up until now, so perhaps Capcom knows exactly what it’s doing. Gameplay is expected to be a return of sorts to the original Resident Evil titles, ramping up the puzzles and using tricks like limited ammunition to keep players on their toes.

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that Resident Evil Revelations will use Capcom’s new MT Framework Mobile engine, promising significantly improved graphics on the 3D-capable handheld. First demonstrated back in September 2010, Capcom caught headlines with its boast that the 3DS version of the game will have graphics on a par with those on the Xbox 360.

Capcom isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to their newest fighting title, Marvel vs Capcom 3. There are a ton of characters being thrown into the game, with the biggest stars getting front-and-center recognition. But, despite the fact the game is set to launch just around the corner, Capcom isn’t done adding characters. The company has confirmed that one previously rumored-about character, Taskmaster, is indeed being added to the lineup. And, a fan favorite, Akuma is also coming along for the ride.

Akuma is a well-known character in the Street Fighter universe. The younger brother of Gouken, who taught the series’ main characters Ken and Ryu everything they know, Akuma is Ryu’s main antagonist in his own personal story. In Marvel vs Capcom 3, Akuma will be a hidden character that’s set to make your fights harder from time to time.

And then there’s Taskmaster. A Marvel-based character that’s able to copy moves from those he is fighting. It’s called “photographic reflexes.” So, as you fight Taskmaster, he’ll be able to use the moves you’re using to beat you down, mixed in with his own.

There’s no word on whether or not Capcom is done adding characters, or if they’ve still got more up their sleeve, ready to break into the mix. There’s always the possibility that Galactus gets added in as well, as the planet eater was rumored along with Taskmaster to be joining the ranks. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is set to launch on February 15th.

Nintendo’s stance on online gaming is barely a stance at all. Even on their home console, the Wii, the company hasn’t made a huge push into the online gaming market. And it doesn’t look like that position is going to change with the upcoming launch of the Nintendo 3DS. The portable gaming unit, while featuring highly-detailed, 3D titles of which many could very well feature online play, is forced to suffer with a small online architecture. Fortunately, Capcom is ready to bring the latest edition of their Street Figher series to the 3D realm, and they’re bringing online multiplayer along for the ride.

Nintendo hasn’t built a large architecture for developers to build online features into their games, so that’s why developers must do it on their own. For Capcom, which is one of the main third-party developers for Nintendo’s 3D handheld gaming unit, it’s a chance to step up and add features that they believe gamers will enjoy. First and foremost, the company is including an online Verus mode, called “Internet Versus,” where players will be able to match up with other players hanging out in “limbo,” waiting for an online match.

But, that’s not all. Capcom also revealed that gamers will be able to go through the Arcade mode’s challenges with a friend as well. And, if you don’t want to jump online to play with a friend or stranger, you can use the game’s offline mode to play with your friend sitting right next to you. For Capcom to be successful in this endeavor, and to stand out amongst the other developers and publishers who will surely include their own multiplayer features into other games released for the 3DS, the online game modes and features need to stand out. Hopefully next week we’ll find out when we will all get a chance to play the 3D version of Street Fighter IV outside of Japan.

One of the most anticipated games coming in 2011, Capcom’s Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is aiming to become one of the most popular fighting games to land on consoles in recent history. Considering how ridiculously popular the second installment in the franchise is, there’s no doubt that as long as the developers can retain a fraction of the playability and fun, along with the character selection from both Marvel and Capcom’s ranks, the new title will be just as adored. Two new characters may be waiting in the wings, as a recent portfolio from artist Kevin Sharpe showcases both Galactus and Taskmaster in comic book form, and rumors have popped up that the two characters could land in the game as well.

Capcom, though, hasn’t come forward and announced any kind of tie-in, prequel comic, but that doesn’t mean one doesn’t exist. There’s still several weeks between now and the release of the title, which is scheduled to be February 15th, 2011, so an announcement regarding the comic could come any day now. It’s already been leaked that Taskmaster could make his way to the game, and it would be conceivable that Galactus, the planet eater, would be installed in the game as a boss fight.

Unfortunately, Sharpe’s collected images have been removed from his site, but thanks to Shoryukenyou can still see them in all of their glory.

Capcom has been showing off the sort of graphical loveliness we can expect from their titles on the Nintendo 3DS, thanks to liberal use of their MT Framework. Among the magic is HDR lighting, realtime colour correction, self-shadowing, normal mapping, depth of field and motion blur; while that might not mean much to most gamers, Capcom’s aim to make Resident Evil: Revelations on the 3DS as graphically impressive as Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox 360 has to impress.

As you’d hope, Capcom is also making sure that some of the common 3D issues users complain about – such as motion blur – are minimized, without necessarily reducing graphics performance. Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi says, in fact, that he was particularly surprised by the Nintendo 3DS’ graphical abilities, which certainly bodes well not only for the handheld console itself but – looking forward – the company’s next-gen “jaw-droppingly unique” Wii replacement.

Street Fighter is one of the most popular video games of all times, dating back at least a handful of years by now, and the latest iteration of the series, Street Fighter IV made most fans of the series quite happy. So that’s why Capcom felt it was the right time to bring the franchise to an HDTV near you, and by combining with Roundtable Concepts, they’ve got quite a nice set to show off. You’ll see your favorite character, or the SFIV title on the bottom-left and bottom-right bezel. Additionally, the image you choose will also appear on the splashscreen for eight seconds every time you turn the HDTV on.

They will be offered up in four variations: 32″, 40″, 42″, and 46.” They are LED HDTVs, so that should do quite well for making sure that while you’re playing your favorite fighter title, it’ll look as good as it can. There’s no word in the press release about a release date or pricing, but we imagine that, at the very least due to the customization, they should be pretty pricey.

Press Release:

LAKE MARY, Fla., May 20 /PRNewswire/ — Roundtable Concepts, Inc. announced today that they will launch the “Officially Licensed Capcom Street Fighter IV” HDTV’s to be available in the upcoming weeks.
TouchWiz wasn’t the greatest. TouchWiz 2.0 was a huge leap in the right direction. But there was always going to be something holding back Samsung from taking any steps forward in the mobile marketplace, and it had nothing to do with proprietary software on their phones. They lacked what everyone else and their second-cousin has: a way to get first- and third-party developed applications onto their phones. Well, it looks like that’s about to change.

Earlier in the month, we disclosed Samsung’s launch of the TouchWiz SDK, and it looks like they’re holding good on the promise to deliver some quality apps for their phones. Firstly, there will be a portal that’s powered by Samsung’s own native client, and the store will be filtered via an unspecified “content guideline” for getting apps into the Samsung Application Store (we know: creative). A total of 300 applications are said to be available when the store launches, and it will apparently focus on games. Not just random Java games, either. These games are coming from major providers, like Capcom, EA and Gameloft, among others. Samsung also mentioned that they are aiming to get 2,000 applications out to the consumers by year’s end.

Samsung is aiming for high-end phones to begin with: Samsung Omnia i8910 (the Omnia HD), Omnia II, and Omnia Lite. Customers will be able to tie purchases to their phone bills, or pay for your apps via third-party means. The website is available now, but Samsung said that the store won’t be open to purchases until September 14th, and is going to launch in France, the UK, and Italy. 30 countries are lined up in the coming months, and considering that the Omnia II is scheduled for a release here in the States, then it’s a good possibility we get to see some Application Store goodness.

Did you enjoy Capcom’s foray into the beautiful, huge, and brilliant world of Lost Planet the first time around? Then get ready to take a 4-player ride through the second installment, in the meat and bones of a demo that will be launching on the Xbox LIVE network next week.

Starting on August 19, those with an Xbox LIVE Gold account can get first grab at this. It’s a 4-player, online co-op demo, that showcases the same scenarios that were shown at previous press events like E3 and Comic Con. If you were expecting something new, and you were lucky enough to play the game at one of the trade shows, then you’re out of luck.

Of course, if you were unable to make it, then this should be right up your alley. The second installment of Lost Planet is set up for a release date of some time next year, but nothing official has been announced yet. As for those still few Silver members running around on LIVE, the demo will be available to them for download a week after the initial release, August 26.

If content isn’t a sure sign of a video game console’s prowess, than it’s an unarguable fact that Nintendo is the console juggernaut in the gaming world, and it looks like Capcom is about to start taking advantage. Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun financial newspaper today states that the third party developing giant is taking the steps necessary to strengthening its bonds with Nintendo, hoping to reach out to the Wii’s 52 million customers.

For gamers in the United States, it looks like we’ll be seeing the fruits of that labor with a little game called Monster Hunter 3. Capcom and Nintendo will be working together for the overseas launch of the title, which has already been released in Japan last week, and nabbed more than 500,000 units in the first two days. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun went on to say that Nintendo plans on using their uncontested experience in selling Pokemon to promote the upcoming title.

As for Japan, the two will be collaberating on bringing out the Wii’s biggest upcoming titles, Sengoku Basara 3, which is a historical action-slasher. This is the third installment in the series which is known as “Devil Kings” here in the States, is wildly popular in Japan, and Capcom has frequently made remarks on how popular the title is with the female demographic. Sengoku Basara 3 was announced last week, but there isn’t any word on a specific platform as of yet. So while this may be the biggest title for the Wii (at least regionally), it may just be a title shelved on another competitor’s library.

“We’ll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title. We’re thinking about putting together a long list of the titles we’re looking at, and then releasing it on Capcom Unity and having people vote on them. Ultimately we’re looking at bringing between 20 and 40 titles to the PSN over the next several months” Chris Kramer, Capcom

Kramer suggests a voting system that would allow gamers to suggest legacy PS1 and PSP titles for inclusion in the download scheme. These would then be vetted by Capcom themselves, amended in line with their own suggestions, and put out to public vote.

Between 20 and 40 games will be released in this way, all through Sony’s game download system. Kramer did clarify that those titles that might involve licensing problems are unlikely to be considered, however.

Well it looks like we’ll be seeing those same things in the retro Mega Man 9. Hit the jump for a quote from Capcom’s Hironobu Takeshita on the subject.

Yeah, there were some things, like you couldn’t have more than three enemies on the screen at once, so we had to make sure that that’s how it stayed in our game. In the part with the dragon with the flame, [there should be] flickering, and whatnot.

I have to say that it’s a weird feeling to be excited over a game that looks like it should have been released 15 years ago. I’m glad to see that Capcom is really putting some effort into this one, and not just phoning it in like they could have.

Back in the NES days I loved to play Mega Man. However, much like Sonic the Hedgehog, as the games continued over the years, I started enjoying them less and less. It’s been a few years since I’ve even touched a Mega Man game (aside from replaying the original last year), but I have to say that I’m excited about what Capcom is doing with Mega Man 9.

The above screenshot is not from one of the early games, but rather from the latest in the series. At some point Capcom decided that it was time to take the game back to its roots, graphics and all. They’ve even gone as far as adding in music and sound effects that are very similar to those found in the original NES titles.

Apparently one thing they have changed is that the game is much harder than the ones we remember. Frankly, I think the world is definitely ready for a kick-ass, hard as hell Mega Man. Bring it on Capcom.

A little while back the good folks a Capcom found themselves in a tight spot. It seems that someone used a picture which was watermarked by IGN for the cover of Okami for the Wii. Talk about embarrassing. They decided to make up for it by offering up free replacement cover art, which is promised to be watermark-free. So the question now is where the heck those covers are.

It seems that Capcom ran into a few snags in getting these out. They have blamed the delay on the applications. Namely, they’ve received a ton of them, including many duplicates (you guys wouldn’t have thought of trying to score free cover art would you?). Well don’t fret any longer, as the new covers should be shipping out in the next week or two.

To further make up for the delay of the item that makes up for the error on their part, your new cover art is now double-sided. On the reverse side you will find a watermark-free version of the original Wii cover.

Just send in anything from pictures, videos and even singing telegrams (yes they actually said that), explaining your reasoning as to why you should be in Street Fighter IV. They don’t care how ignorant your reason, it can be because you rock at the game or just because you think it’s cool to have your face planted in the game.

Your entries need to be sent into contest@capcom.com and need to include name, age, phone number, email address and a high-res pic of your face. Better hurry though, entries have to be in by Wednesday the 18th.

Have any of you managed to figure out how many Mega Man titles there are? Apparently Capcom was having some issues figuring out the answer to that question themselves, and posed it to gamers earlier this month to find the answer. Well they seem to have gotten things sorted because they recently revealed the answer in a report listing various life-to-date sales figures of their gaming franchises.

The magic number? 120. There are 120 games staring the Blue Bomber himself. Some characters are lucky to even get a sequel, and this guy manages to get an additional 119 games, that’s just incredible.

What’s even more incredible than the number of titles is the sales figures. Even though there have only been 50 titles in the Resident Evil series (yet somehow they’re just getting to Resident Evil 5), those games managed to outsell Mega Man by a whopping 6.5 million units.

Here’s a little trivia for you. How many games have there been in the Mega Man series? That should be an easy one, I mean, how hard could it be to count up a few measly sequels? If you’re stumped, I’ve got the answer after the jump.

Okay, I lied. I have no idea how many Mega Man games there are. Sure, I loved the Blue Bomber back in the day, but somewhere after the fortieth game I tend to lose count. If you checked with the Guinness World Record Gamer’s Edition, it would tell you that there are 46. What’s fascinating is that Capcom knows that there are more, they just aren’t too sure exactly how many others they made. If I had to guess I would say that there were…..well, I think Vegeta sums it up best.

If you think you know each and every Mega Man game that has ever existed, then head over to Capcom and let them know. Seriously, they’re really asking for help on this one. If you’re the first one to nail down all of the titles, you’ll get something special. “Semi-Official Capcom Gold Star of Complementarianism and some kinda random prize to whoever completes this assignment successfully!”

Last week I showed you the cover of Okami for the Wii, which happened to include a watermark from IGN. That was bad, and we were all pretty shocked that it managed to slip through the cracks at Capcom. They’ve since made up for it by offering a free replacement cover. However, it has just come to our attention that Bradygames has also done the same thing with their Okami strategy guide.

What’s interesting about the cover is that the watermark (again, from IGN) is in a different location. This means that Bradygames used a different piece of artwork that included the same watermark. What are the odds?

I would imagine that they received the artwork directly from Capcom, which means that this is an even worse mistake, because it was likely seen by people at both companies.

If you’re appauled by the IGN watermark stamped on the case, Capcom wants to make you feel better. Just head on over to their website and give them your name and address, and you’ll get your choice of three different box art covers (one is shown above).

I’ve always been a fan of Japanese artwork, especially their anime style. I can’t really say why, but I enjoy the style more than even our Western comic book style. One thing that does tend to bother me is that they have a tendency to make some body parts disproportionate to the rest. Usually this means either big knockers or big heads. However, this has to be the first time I’ve seen the hands get so far out of whack.

This isn’t just some fan’s take on Chun-Li, but rather some art from the upcoming Street Fighter IV game. I get that she is one bad-ass fighter, and could kick my ass any day of the week, but I never knew that it was in part to her massive hands. Perhaps between games 3 and 4 she was a professional thumb wrestler?

Hopefully this is just some early rendering work and they’ve realized that she has some sort of monstrous growth where her thumb should be.

If you’ve ever created a unique image that you wanted to be displayed on the internet, I’m sure you know what a watermark is for. While there are plenty of uses for watermarks, one important one is to make sure that no one else tries to take your work and claim it as their own. If they do try to claim ownership of the original artwork, they are made into complete fools by the presence of said watermark. That being said, Capcom has officially made fools out of themselves with the Wii port of Okami.

If you’ve picked up a copy of Okami for the Wii, go grab the box and look closely at the cover. I’ll give you a hint, look just to the right of his mouth. What you will see is the watermark of IGN. How sad is it to see someone else’s watermark on your product?

You really have to wonder just how many people saw this art before it went off to be printed. I would hope that each and every one of them would be fired, as they clearly didn’t do their job and actually look at it.

Man, this is going to be such an awesome year for gaming. There are so many games out there that I just can’t wait for. Hovering towards the top of the list is Street Fighter IV. Seriously, how long have we been waiting for another sequel? We’ve already seen one of the new characters, Abel. Here’s a peek at yet another character that’s been added to the lineup.

El Fuerte is no doubt the most bad-ass Mexican wrestler I’ve seen in the series to date. So maybe he’s the only one so far, but he still looks pretty bad-ass.

Capcom is keeping quiet on many of the details of these characters, but we have it on good authority that El Fuerte splits his time between Lucha Libre wrestling and gourmet cooking. Wrestlers need good food, so why not just make it himself?

So you might remember that I stood out in the freezing cold not too long ago in order to procure a Wii. I’ll have to admit that my work ethic has been somewhat slacking since that very purchase. I’ve not really gotten into a golf game since I played Jack Nicklaus Golf on my Mac way back in the day. However, now that I’ve gotten a taste for those 9 holes in Wii Sports, I must have more. Thankfully Capcom’s got my back.

We Love Golf looks like it will be a fairly decent golf game. What will set it apart from Hot Shots Golf and Mario Golf is the fact that it’s for the Wii, and will take full advantage of the Wiimote. If that were the only cool thing about the game, I would buy it. But Capcom is going to add a little more to spice things up.

Since Capcom has a nice library of characters, expect to see the likes of Jill Valentine, Chun Li, Aurthur, Ken and Morrigan as playable characters. While I’m not a huge fan of Nintendo’s online gameplay, it’s good to hear that you’ll be able to play a few rounds with a friend or two online. Unfortunately there’s no solid release date just yet.
