Canon PowerShot G5 X, EOS M10 now official, G9 X included

Canon has finally given the official word on the its new digital cameras, one from the EOS M family and two from the high performance PowerShot line. Much of what we've seen last time meshes with the formal announcement, but you know what they say about details and devils. The EOS M10 puts a new interchangeable lens on a digital compact to appeal to what Canon calls the Social Media Generation, while the PowerShot G5 X and G9 X expand the choices that professional photographers have when taking shots on the go.

Canon PowerShot G5 X, EOS M10 silently appear online

Just last week, we saw signs that Canon was preparing three new digital cameras to cater to professionals and hobbyists alike. Now Canon has launched two out of three of those cameras, though surprisingly with little in the way of fuss or fanfare. Not that they are not noteworthy in any manner. The new PowerShot G5 X, for example, boasts of the first in the family to bear a 2.36 million dot electronic viewfinder. The new EOS M10, on the other hand, boasts compatibility with both EF-M EOS M series digital lenses and EF and EF-S DSLR lenses.

At the Canon Expo 2015 this week, the famed camera maker gave a glimpse of what its next generation Connect Station will be like, which, to sum it up, will tout a bunch of wireless technologies. Wireless transfer of data is already a known feature of this accessory. The next version, however, will also be sporting wireless charging, definitely a rare feature, if not a first, for digital cameras, resembling the growing trend of wireless charging among mobile devices.

Canon’s next gen EOS include 8K camera, 120 MP SLR

IFA 2015 might be over, but Canon certainly isn't done teasing the photography world with what could be. Late last month it revealed its plan to support the broadcast industry with the development of a 4K portable zoom lens. Now it is going the extra mile, pushing the boundaries of digital photography all the way to 8K. This includes the development of a Cinema EOS System 8K camera and an 8K reference display. Plus, it also has a 120 megapixel SLR camera in the works as well.

Canon develops 250MP APS-H CMOS sensor

Canon has announced the development of a new CMOS sensor for digital cameras that has the world's highest resolution for its size. The sensor is APS-H sized and has 250MP of resolution. That is 19,580 x 12,600 pixels. The little sensor measures 29.2 x 20.2 mm and boasts the highest number of pixels or a CMOS sensor smaller than the size of a 35mm full frame sensor.

Canon has announced that it is working on a new home theater projector that crams 4k resolution into a compact and light body. The projector is still under development, but Canon is talking it up ahead of its launch. The native resolution of digital cinema is 4,096 x 2,160 and the Canon projector will go above that resolution with 4,096 x 2,400 resolution.

Canon Pixma lineup expands with seven new printers

On Tuesday, Canon announced that its Pixma product lineup has been expanded with the addition of seven new printers. The expansion is comprised of the Canon Pixma MG7720, MG6800, and MG5700 series all-in-one inkjets. All of them are wireless and are suitable for multi-purpose use, including printing both documents and photographs. In addition, the wireless printers can be used with tablets and similar mobile devices via the Canon PRINT Inkjet app. The printers include a built-in scanner, and like the last Pixma we saw, these printers can print straight from Instagram.
