, Oct 20th 2009 Discuss [0]

SenseCam lifelogging camera hitting production

, Oct 19th 2009 Discuss [1]

The SenseCam prototype we first mentioned back in February 2007 has finally spawned a production version, albeit initially intended for researchers with deep wallets.  The handiwork of Microsoft Research in Cambridge, UK, the SenseCam is worn on a lanyard around the neck and takes images either periodically, when movement is sensed, or when a person is encountered (via a PIR sensor on the front).  Vicon, who have licensed production rights from Microsoft Research and who will launch it as the Vicon Revue, expect the camera to be used by lifeloggers wanting to document their everyday movements. Superheadz Digital Harinezumi retro-110 camera reaches US shores

, Oct 16th 2009 Discuss [0]

Retro-camera addicts may have remembered mutterings of Superheadz's Digital Harinezumi camera a few months back, the unusually-shaped Japanese shooter promising Super 8 style images and silent video.  At the time, finding one outside of its native country was tougher than selling Nokia shares, but now arch-importers AudioCubes have stepped in with a $169.99 sticker price. PUNCH camera concept creates rasterized perforated prints

, Oct 2nd 2009 Discuss [1]

Despite the clamoring for higher and higher resolution digital cameras, all it takes is one good idea and we're willing to make do with far fewer pixels.  Matty Martin's PUNCH camera concept packs both a regular CMOS sensor and preview screen with an automatic hole-punch system: once you've snapped a shot, the camera rasterizes the image, scurries an array of different-sized pins into place, and - by "punching" it onto a piece of paper - makes a physical copy of the image. iPod nano 5G camera falls foul of gym blacklists

, Sep 23rd 2009 Discuss [0]

Apple's iPod nano 5G has impressed plenty of reviewers (and will likely find favor with even more buyers, too) but gym owners are less enamored.  With the arrival of the nano's video camera, the PMP has found itself on the blacklist for some gym changing rooms, over fears that patrons may use image- and video-capable devices to surreptitiously grab shots of each other. iPod touch 3G teardown: space for camera, WiFi ‘n’ & FM chip found

, Sep 11th 2009 Discuss [1]

Consider us surprised that, while we expected the most interest out of the iPod nano 5G teardown, in actual fact it's Apple's updated third-gen iPod touch the guts of which that are prompting the most intrigue.  iFixit have been doing their usual job of stripping the new PMP down to its constituent parts, and in the process they've discovered not only a space where a nano-style video camera would fit perfectly, but signs of faster networking too. Apple’s iPod event has only just ended, but we’ve already had a chance to grapple with what was probably the highlight of the day: the new iPod nano 5G.  Now packing a 2.2-inch LCD display and a video camera on the back – complete with microphone and speaker – the nano is now set to take on Flip’s camcorder.  Don’t expect it to necessarily replace your digital camera, though; the nano 5G only shoots video, not still photos.
