2016 Camaro Convertible revealed with Chevy’s smartest roof

Chevrolet has chopped the roof off its everyman sportscar to create the 2016 Camaro Convertible, though this is no hack-job soft top. While it may not have a folding metal roof, the Camaro Convertible does get what Chevy is calling the most advanced lid of the segment, not only fully-powered in operation but with automatically releasing and securing latches, and a powered hard tonneau cover that makes the whole thing a hands-off experience.

"The Z/28 is really going to be the icing on the cake for the Camaro." So says Al Oppenheimer, chief engineer on Chevrolet's Camaro team, and while he's unsurprisingly a little biased about GM's street-legal race car, having been out on the track in the 2014 Camaro Z/28 it's hard not to catch some of that enthusiasm. Chevrolet's cars aren't production ready yet - though even when they are, GM will only be making 3,000-4,000 over the course of two years - and the test cars are hand-built, down to the special 505 HP engines, but already the potential is clear. Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 clocks blistering Nordschleife run

Chevrolet's 2014 Camaro Z/28 has been put through the paces at the Nürburgring road course, with the model clocking in at a blistering four seconds faster than the Camaro ZL1, all the while beating out competitors' vehicles including the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and the Porsche 911 Carrera S. The fast lap time is despite being pitted against some unwelcomed acts of nature, including pouring rainfall towards the end of the run.
