Brando is the company to look for when you want to get your dose of weird with some USB on the side. The company has all manner of weird things for you to check out. The latest oddity from Brando is this optical USB scale mouse. When the palm cover is in place it looks like your normal mouse. Pop that cover off and you have a digital scale underneath.

I guess the idea is that you can use the scale to weigh things like mail you need to send. The little digital scale can weigh 0.1g to 500g. It has a scale that can be changed to read in grams, ounces, gn, and ct. The scale needs a pair of AAA batteries for power and the first set is included. The display on the scale is backlit so you can see it in the dark.

The scale also has a calibration setting and a memory button. The mouse measures 120 x 64 x 35mm and the scale measures 59 x 59 x 20mm. If you need one of these for weighing things at your desk you can get one now for $22.

I would have to say that this is one of the more interesting items that Brando has ever had on its website. Generally the company has cheesy USB gear that is of questionable value. This PMP, which looks more like a tablet, certainly won’t beat out many of the more popular and well-known PMPs in most minds, but the thing is cool nonetheless. It’s called the Gadmei P83 3D PMP.

It has a big 8-inch screen and a resolution of 1280 x 768 and can show 3D content without needing any glasses. The device supports multiple video and audio formats with support for 3D formats. It has a button to turn the 3D effects on or off. The device has full 1080p video out support and supports connecting of flash drives, USB HDDs, and SD cards for playback.

The device measures 220 x 138.5 x 17.8mm and weighs 516g. It has 4GB of internal storage and an internal SD card slot. The PMP will support still photos in several formats as well as eBooks in multiple formats. The PMP OS isn’t specifically mentioned, the specs list Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7 but that is likely to be OS’s the PMP is compatible with. I wouldn’t expect blazing performance though. If the PMP has caught your attention you can get one for $179 right now.

Brando has a bunch of really odd USB gadgets that users can choose from. Many of the USB gadgets it has are flash drives and the latest flash drive from Brando isn’t as secure as it looks. The flash drive looks like a brass padlock you might use to lock your storage building.

On the bottom of the lock where you would find the keyhole is a USB connector. The innards of the lock hide flash storage in three different capacities. You can get the USB Lock Flash Drive in 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB capacities.

The flash drive is available right now and it will cost you $21 to $34 depending on the capacity you choose. The drive measures 36 x 66 x 10mm and weighs 69g. The only downside I see to the drive other than it is expensive for the storage capacity is that the lock body is wide and will probably block the USB port next to it.

Having a waterproof phone is all well and good, but let’s face it, sometimes you just don’t want to hold it to your head while your swimming, or bathing yourself. But you just have to have that conversation with someone right there, right then. Hey, we don’t judge. So what would make the whole thing make more sense? A waterproof Bluetooth headset, of course. And that’s exactly what the Wavetooth is (shocker, right?).

The Wavetooth Bluetooth headset is from Brando, and it’s designed to do exactly what you might expect. It’s waterproof up to 3 meters, which is about 10 feet, and as long as you don’t go any further than that (or let it fall any further than that), you should be able to yak away to your heart’s content. Not that we imagine you’ll be doing much talking under water, mind you.

As you might expect, the Wavetooth will work with any Bluetooth enabled smartphone out there. However, if you have an iPhone, you get some special bonuses. The Wavetooth headset comes with a special thin-lined bag that, if you put your device into it, will let you keep your iPhone dry, too. But! It will also let you use the touch-based device, too, as the material of the bag is thin enough to let you still use your phone, thanks to its “Touch Functionality.”

As for the specs that matter with any Bluetooth headset, Brando is saying that the Wavetooth will last you up to 13 hours of talk time, and give you 240 hours of stand-by time. Pricing is set at $57, and you can order it from Brando’s website.

Brando is an epic purveyor of all sorts of things weird and WTF. The company has things that let you zoom in on every little imperfection on your face, or look inside your ears with huge magnification. They also have a full line of USB gear for keeping warm.

The latest item from Brando definitely falls into the WTF category. It’s called the USB Itching Removal Instrument. Let that sink in for a minute. Brando says the device uses optical and electronic spectrum technology and has no chemicals to kill bacteria.

You are supposed to use the device after you get an insect bite to reduce the itching. The device can be powered by four AAA batteries or USB. Exactly how this thing works isn’t specified, and for good reason. That good reason is called the placebo effect. You can add this to your new age first aid kit for $15. I suspect itch relief for $15 would be more effective if you rolled those bills up and used them as a scratch stick.

The accessories for our favorite gadgets are probably just as exciting as our favorite gadgets, and when something like this breaks cover, we can’t help but get a little giddy. After all, it’s a red dot sight for a camera. Sure, it might be a little unorthodox, and people may stare at you if you were to actually put this up on your camera, but at least you know you’ll be the coolest photo taker out there, right?

It’s called the Tactical Four Reticle Sight, and it’s from Brando. Itt’s an adapter that screws into a camera’s hotshoe. By doing this, it enables the addition of an included sight. The sight itself includes four separate crosshairs, three laser strengths, and two available colors. And, the accessory itself does look pretty fantastic, for a very military-esque approach.

While a red dot sight may not be the newest feature to hit a camera, we do have to say that this is one of the better looking ones we’ve seen. Plus, it’s ridiculously cheap. At only $45, anyone can add this to their SLR and start snapping those perfect photos.

I may be old school when it comes to gaming, but for some game types on the Wii I don’t want the Wii remote, what I want it a joystick or a game pad. Sure, I could go out and buy one of the Wii classic style controllers, but I am cheap. Brando has a cool new Wii remote accessory called the Wii Magic Stick that looks like just the ticket for gamers that feel the same way I do.

The Wii Magic Stick is a plastic overlay that snaps on top of your stock Wii remote and adds a small joystick along the lines of the PS3 and Xbox 360 analog stick over the D-pad. The cover also puts a taller nub over the “A” button on top of the remote.

The same raised nubs are added to the lower buttons on the remote as well. The backside of the Wii remote is left uncovered for access to the trigger. Brando sells the covers in a pair for only $7. That is much cheaper than buying the classic style Nintendo controllers.

Brando has offered up a new USB 3.0 to SATA adapter that will let me use one of those drives as a super fast external storage device. The adapter is a “Y” that allows the HDD to get power and connect to the USB 3.0 port.

The adapter allows for 10-30 GBytes of video data to be copied to a 3.5-inch HDD in about 1/3 the time of the USB 2.0 interface. The device supports 5 Gbps, 480 Mbps and 12Mbps connections. Both SATA 1.5 and 3 HDDS are supported. The device is available now for $48 and can be had with power plugs to fit various countries.

We’re used to Brando having a selection of – dare we say it – moderately rubbish USB peripherals and other novelty nonsense, but their latest PMP actually has us tempted. The 7-inch touchscreeen bmorn BM-888 apparently supports 720p video through a TV output, and can play back MPEG (AVI), RM, RMVB and FLV video files along with lossless audio and image files.

There’s also an FM radio and microphone, together with an ebook reader, and you could feasibly sit the BM-888 on a table and use it as a digital photo frame, since Brando include a case with a flip-out stand. The only thing really missing is an internet browser and WiFi, because with that – and assuming the speed was decent – this would be an excellent little sofa-surfing device.

Still, we can overlook the lack of internet connectivity by virtue of the microSDHC slot (an 8GB card is included; 32GB supported), integrated stereo speakers and multitasking support so that you can watch a picture slideshow while listening to music. It’s available now, priced at $149 with $28 shipping to the US.

The gang over at Brando has a plethora of USB gear and other computer accessories that often verge on the insane. The company also offers a line of some very cool hard drive enclosures, docks, and stations and has announced its latest called the E-Blue Gladiator.

The new drive station is neither blue nor is it a gladiator, but I digress. The station is an external HDD docking system that uses a new UltraSpeed USB connection to increase file transfer speed. The case is a silver brushed aluminum that looks very nice and the system is compatible with Windows and Mac computers. The front cover opens when a touch sensitive button is pressed.

Other features of the system include Disk Guard to prevent ejection of a HDD while it is in use, preventing damage, or data loss. The device also features ECO Manager that allows the device to go into hibernation mode after a specific length of time. When in hibernation mode the PC can still see the drive and when it is accessed, it wakes up automatically. Dimensions for the device are 195 x 144 x 80 mm and it weighs 650G, all cables are included but the hard drive is not. Brando is selling the station for $65 and it is available now.

If you’re a Windows desktop user who has been jealously eyeing up the multitouch trackpads available on various Windows and Apple notebooks, or perhaps prefer to use your laptop with an external keyboard but miss the multi-finger functionality, then Brando’s latest product may be for you. Their USB Multi-Touch Smart Pad does exactly what it says on the tin: recognize all the usual multi-finger gestures such as pinch-zoom and rotate.

It also, niftily, works as a numeric keypad, with the touchpad surface being split up into button zones. Tap the function button and it switches between recognizing numbers and recognizing navigation gestures.

Unfortunately one of the biggest user groups we can imagine – MacBook and MacBook Pro owners who want to use their notebook with an external keyboard, but then miss the excellent multitouch trackpad – seemingly aren’t supported here. This is a Windows XP and Vista product only, at least according to Brando. It’s available now, priced at $40.

We’re used to Brando pumping out bizarre little MP3 players, slightly dubious USB hubs and other desktop ephemera, but could they be on to a winner with the Cube Multimedia Player Speaker? Janky name aside, the 84 x 84 x 88 mm box packs a 3.5-inch 320 x 240 LCD, stereo speakers, FM radio, video and audio playback and a voice recorder.

There’s also an array of built-in sound effects, together with both battery and mains power options. Brando claim that the Cube will play video for 3-4hrs or audio for 8hrs (with the screen turned off); alternatively you can dictate to your heart’s content (or, more accurately, for more than 5hrs) on a full charge. 4GB of internal memory is augmented via, somewhat unusually, a mini SD card (no, not microSD).

The desktop PMP can play MP3 and WMA audio, MPEG-4, RM and RMVB video and JPEG, BMP and GIF images, together with displaying ebooks. The speakers are each rated at 2.5W, and there’s a remote control. Is this a decent deal for $79, or are we simply inured to Brando junk?

It seldom fails to impress me how quickly accessory manufacturers can knock together third-party gadgets for new devices, and Brando is certainly at the top of their game for flooding the market with “do I really need this?” trinkets. Their latest addition is a so-called “Flexible Mini Capsule Microphone” for the iPhone 3GS, intended to take advantage of the thousands of people now recording dreary YouTube videos on their new smartphone.

Unlike the handset’s integrated microphone, which is at the bottom of the handset, the Brando mic can be tilted, rotated and generally angled to point at whatever it is you’re filming. Alternatively you can twist it back to face yourself, ideal for catching every vocal nuance of your voice-over.

Both white and black versions will be on offer, and no battery is required. Gain is listed at 25+dB, but if you’re really looking for polished audio you’d still be better off sourcing a separate, powered microphone. It’ll also play nicely with the iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G and iPod nano 4G, and be priced at $14 when it lands at the end of July.

The last Brando product to grace these pages – their LCD Bluetooth Vibrating Bracelet – fell more than a little short of impressing us. Today it’s back to basics with a USB cable, but it’s actually a cable with a neat in-line difference: Brando have taken a standard USB to miniUSB cable and added an SD card reader.

That means you can not only use the cord to charge up or synchronize your cellphone, smartphone or PMP, but you can also slap in an SD card (or an SDHC card, or a microSD card with the adapter you get bundled with just about every new microSD chip) and save a precious USB port on your computer. The card does stick out some way, so it’s obviously not intended for permanent data storage, but for grabbing images from a digital camera it could be very useful.

Best of all is the price: a mere $12. We imagine Brando are already cooking up a version with a multiformat card reader, though of course that could add to the bulk.

Brando seem to think they’ve hit on the identity bracelet for the 21st century, in the shape of this LCD Bluetooth Vibrating Bracelet, which hooks up to your cellphone via the Headset or Hands-Free profiles and flags up any incoming calls on its bright blue screen and a buzz to your wrist. You can then choose to answer or reject them with the bracelet’s single button.

There are a couple of problems, though. Firstly, Brando aren’t entirely clear about what details the bracelet will display, and it sounds as though you’ll only get the Caller ID number rather than any associated name in your phonebook. Personally I have a hard time remembering my own phone number, never mind other peoples’. Secondly, since the bracelet lacks a microphone or speaker, once you’ve answered the call you’ll need to pull out your phone anyway.

It doesn’t appear to tell the time, either, and the one really useful feature I can think of – showing incoming SMS messages – isn’t supported. Still, there’s bound to be at least a small number of people for whom this ticks a box or two, and they’ll find the Brando LCD Bluetooth Vibrating Bracelet on sale now, priced at $49.90.

Brando have taken the tiny wraps off of their latest Bluetooth keyboard, and it’s definitely been created with portability rather than usability in mind. Measuring just 140 x 70 x 12mm, the Mini Bluetooth Keyboard has a 15m range and uses the Bluetooth 2.0 standard, happily connecting to a laptop, smartphone (with the right Bluetooth profile) or even your PS3.

The 83-key ‘board has all the usual function keys and arrow buttons, though we can’t imagine them being quite as pleasant to type on as a buckled-spring keyboard or even the cheap thing that came with your last budget desktop PC. Still, neither of those would likely fit into your jacket pocket, nor nestle discretely with the remote controls when serving as a PlayStation 3 keyboard.

The Brando Mini Bluetooth Keyboard is available now, priced at $39. It runs on two AAA batteries, and has a hardware power-switch.

I know how it is; Brando’s original Super Tiny Keyboard appeals, but your job watching owls means you need something visible in low-light conditions. Thankfully Brando have heard your hooting prayers and delivered this, the Wireless Illuminated Super Tiny Keyboard, just 170 x 81 x 15mm but now with some lovely blue backlighting.

As Brando themselves say, “the illuminated design makes it more cyber and useful”, and I know SlashGear readers will never argue with something being even more cyber. 56 keys offer up a seriously truncated space bar, but still room for a full number row, and it weighs only 138g so it shouldn’t slow you down if the owls turn on you and chase you from the forest.

The USB wireless dongle gives you around 10m range, and the keyboard itself is powered by two AAA batteries. It’s available to order now, shipping by the end of the month, priced at $47.

Brando is known for their many computer gadgets and USB devices, but this one is especially cool. The USB Notebook Cooling Pad is not your ordinary USB-powered computer cooler. In fact, this one features a HDD Slot built right into it.

This laptop cooler measures in at 300m x 252mm x 32mm. It weighs just 504 grams and looks pretty stylish. But besides its looks, this Cooling Pad is actually equipped with three USB hubs, making connecting your devices much easier. Plus, it features a 2.5-inch SATA HDD slot, so hooking up external storage shouldn’t be a problem, either.

The HDD slot supports up to a 250GB SATA HDD. With two fans, this Cooling Pad is one of the most feature-filled I’ve seen. You can get the USB Notebook Cooling Pad now for $33.

Even so, the Super Tiny Keyboard by Brando is a small keyboard option for those that like a tiny typing experience. You know, the kind where your hands overlap? Intended to be used with a desktop PC, this keyboard measures in at just 6.6-inches wide.

It includes 56 keys, including all the ones you’ve come to know and use on a standard keyboard like num lock and function keys. A mini-USB connector is also included on the back. This thing is definitely small, however, I just don’t know how practical it would be. You can get the Super Tiny Keyboard for yourself for $25.

I half expected this to be a Thanko product since they are best at all that is bizarre and USB. However, Brando managed to get their paws on these. Likely though, Thanko has some other version of the same thing.

Brando does warn not to eat these, probably wouldn’t be best no matter how good they look. Even if you can’t have these sweet treats for real, you can torture yourself relentlessly by having gadgets that are inspired by them. For a 4G one it will cost you $28.

Then again you could also just use it as a flash drive. But that’s not all, you can also plug in the mini USB part to your cell phone and plug the other end into a computer or USB charger and charge your mobile phone or other mini USB charged gadget.

This fairly amazing gadget comes in Orange, Gray, Blue, Green, and Black and only costs $14 from the Brando site. If you are looking for where the microSD card slot is, like I did for a little while, it sort of makes up the bottom half of the regular USB jack.

Apparently the deal with this card is that you slide it into your iPhone and it somehow magically hardware unlocks your iPhone. I am not an electrical engineer, so I can’t tell you how well this thing will work, but if I had to guess, it won’t.

Although there does appear to be a chip, and not a memory one, maybe some sort of processor, that might be able to help accomplish the task, but I am still pretty skeptical. With the limited text from Brando, and their poorly translated product descriptions, I gather that you some how attach this to your SIM card and that’s how it works its magic, but do you attach it to the included AT&T SIM or to the SIM that you want to work.

Also, it apparently only works with firmwares up to 1.1.2, so if you have the latest update, no dice. If you want one, and are willing to give it a try, its $30.

I am sure by now you have probably seen a credit card shaped and sized MP3 player before. Only, chances are good, the one you saw cost a considerable amount more than this one.

Apparently there was another company with such an offering earlier this year and they were retailing a 2GB version for $150, now either they pushed their unsellable product off on Brando like they were the digital version of Goodwill, or Brando just stole their design and made it cheap. Regardless, Brando is offering up their 2GB credit card MP3 player for $42.

At that price its worth it for larger companies to look into it for branding purposes to give away to potential clients, or at other galas or various other events. Even better yet, is the fact that if the price on these things keeps going down we could be receiving them as swag at the next trade show.

Honestly, some people just don’t know their own strength. Ellen over at The Gadgeteer acquired Brando’s USB Webcam with Telescope (that looks surprisingly similar to the far more entertainingly-named Digital Cowboy from a few weeks ago) and set to work spying on the neighbours and peering long-lensed into trees.

Unfortunately the webcam, which Ellen says “feels like it’s made from some kind of laminated paper,” proceeded to break, its focus-ring spinning ineffectively like a drunken potter.

Ellen also has no few good words to say about the software, the controls on the camera itself or the documentation. As interesting as the idea is, and as cheap as they make it (just $26), you can’t really recommend a product that breaks with casual use.

Online tech superstore Brando has released several different telescopes for different models of cell phones. The telescopes attach to the back of the cell phones, and pictures can be taken using the built-in camera of cell phones. This is great for the paparazzi hidden inside of you, although stalkers could also use this to stalk their prey (not advised).

Cell phones have very low resolution cameras these days, coming in at 2 megapixels and as low as 0.5 megapixels. You can adjust the focus on the telescope, and the unit comes with a neckstrap, the actual unit, and a battery cover. I don’t think I am going to be using this anytime soon, although it would make a nice gist for a photography nut who just doesn’t have the right equipment. The Sony Ericsson model comes in at $19.

Featuring a built-in voice recorder, the watch holds up to1GB of mp3 files, including voice recordings saved in WMA format. Mp3s are transferred via USB 2.0 cable, and the battery unit allows for over nine hours of continuous playback. Audio controls are cleverly disguised as standard watch buttons on the sides.
