SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 12, 2012

Welcome to Friday, folks. The weekend is here once again, and what better way to kick off the festivities than with a Windows 8 purchase? The new OS went up for pre-order today, while a number of other Windows 8-related stories were popping up all over the place. For instance, we found out that the marketing campaign for Windows 8 cost Microsoft a whopping $1.5 billion, and a collection of HP computers were spotted running Windows 8 on the show floor of one Best Buy store in Minnesota.

Borderlands 2 makes strong showing on September software chart

Borderlands 2 makes strong showing on September software chart

We already took a look at gaming hardware sales for September, so now it's time to pore over the software chart for the month. Unsurprisingly, Madden NFL 13 took the top spot for the month of September, selling over 2.55 million copies according to NPD (via NeoGAF). NPD told GameSpot that Madden NFL 13 sales managed to climb 11% over Madden NFL 12 sales in its first month, which is definitely good news for Electronic Arts and its yearly football franchise.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 11, 2012

Welcome to Thursday evening, folks - just one more work day and the glorious weekend is here once again. This afternoon we heard that both the iPad Mini and the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro - neither of which officially exist yet, remember - have been delayed due to problems with component yields, but not long after, analysts were saying that the MacBook Pro with Retina Display is still on track to launch this year. Apple has managed to delay the ban of the iPhone and iPad in South Korea, and we learned that the company's new dock connector is nearly impossible to mod in a new teardown.

Today, we're finding out why the studio launched the new character class early: it has a completely different DLC pack to release next week. Announced today, "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty," will be available across all platforms on October 16 - the original release date for the Mechromancer DLC.

Gearbox: Borderlands 2 rank reset bug not connected to DLC

Gearbox: Borderlands 2 rank reset bug not connected to DLC

Yesterday, we told you that Gearbox had released the highly anticipated Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 a week early, which is good. Unfortunately, a number of users were reporting that the DLC and the patch that goes along with it were wiping badass ranks, skins, heads, golden keys, and in some particularly nasty cases, character saves, which is bad. Today, however, Gearbox is saying that the DLC and the rank reset bug aren't actually connected, which is simply a relief.

We heard that the rumored 32GB Nexus 7 variant might be replacing the 16GB model, and speaking of the Nexus 7, it received Android 4.1.2 today, which adds a much-needed landscape mode.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: September 24, 2012

We've entered the last full week of September, which means that autumn, pumpkins, and little children asking for free candy are all in the near future (for some of us anyway). Today we found out that the iPhone 5 managed to sell 5 million units in its first weekend of availability, and that iOS 6 has been downloaded by 100 million users since it was released last week. Some enthusiastic analysts were left explaining their generous iPhone 5 sales predictions today, while others were saying that the iPhone 5 could top 50 million sales by the end of Q4.

Borderlands 2 rank reset bug making the rounds

Borderlands 2 rank reset bug making the rounds

Borderlands 2 arrived last week, and most are saying that its better than the original. Early adopters are adventuring through Pandora, collecting guns and killing Bullywongs as you read this, but for some of those Vault Hunters, the adventure is not without headaches. No, we're not talking about Borderlands 2's increased difficulty, but rather about a bad rank reset bug that is affecting users on all platforms.

Borderlands 2 Mechromancer DLC release date outed by Gearbox

The release of the highly-anticipated Borderlands 2 is just two short weeks away, and it won't be long after that September 18 release that the game gets its first DLC. We've known for a while that this DLC will add a new class - the Mechromancer - but what we didn't know is when it will launch. This weekend at PAX Prime, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford finally gave an actual date, saying that the pack will be available "by October 16."
