BMW has initiated a voluntary recall, reports Reuters, covering in excess of 156,000 cars in the United States. The recall is said to be over defective bolts that would potentially damage the engine by either loosening or breaking. The NHTSA has been informed of the issue and recall.
It's that time of year again for cars makers to put their best foot forward and BMW does not disappoint. The renowned automobile maker has just announced the M4 Convertible that will be taking its place beside its siblings, the BMW M4 Coupe and the BMW M3 sedan in showrooms in the US this summer.
BMW's i8 supercar may run on electricity but that doesn't mean the Germany marque has forgotten about aural performance: both inside and out. A new video showing how the i8 performs in Sport Mode - which you can see after the cut - shows that not only is the speed there, with the BMW doing 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, but it makes a pretty distinctive noise while it does it, despite only having a very small gasoline engine.
Today it’s time to get a vision of what it’ll be like to be rolling alongside a 2014 BMW i8 on the road. This machine has been subject to countless videos and in-car test drives thus far, but today a group by the name of FrequenShowss have dropped a bunch of B-roll video from a slightly more unique perspective. This is what it’ll feel like for everyone else around you when you drive the 2014 BTW i8.
BMW and Toyota have teamed up to share hybrid vehicle technologies and announced their partnership for a sports car late last year. The first car to come of the partnership is tipped to be a replacement for the BMW Z4 sports car. Toyota also says that the car will be a spiritual successor to the Supra. Perhaps Toyota will get a version along the lines of the FT-1 concept from Detroit.
BMW's i8 hybrid supercar will start reaching preorder customers in June, with the German marque finalizing the 362HP powertrain ahead of production kicking off in April. Demand during presales - open since fall 2013 - has already exceeded BMW's expected ramp-up production, the company says, despite the not-inconsiderable $132k+ sticker price.
The BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupe we first talked about back in April 2013 has become official, with BMW saying it will make its public debut next month at the New York International Auto Show, with production officially kicking off sometime this spring at the auto maker's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.
The MINI Clubman Concept was debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and with it comes hints at what the brand's design future could hold. As can be seen in the gallery after the jump, the design is distinctly MINI, but with it comes some subtle changes, including a slight increase in both width and length compared to the current Clubman model.
BMW has taken the wraps off the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and its new "premium compact" is likely to prove divisive with its looks as the German marque goes taller to fit more into a smaller footprint. Headed to the US in 2015, after a European launch later this year, the front-wheel-drive 2 Series Active Tourer is a mere 4.3m long and 1.8m wide, but stands 1.6m tall thanks to a raised roofline. Inside, driver and passengers sit higher than normal in a BMW, while the windows have swollen and an optional panoramic roof further increases the sense of interior space.
BMW is outfitting its luxury i8 plug-in hybrid coupe with lasers, though unfortunately that won't mean blasting slower traffic out of the lane ahead. The car will be the first production model in the world to get laser light headlamps, which use laser diodes to produce more daylight-like illumination, boost range, and - perhaps most importantly on a car powered by batteries - cut power consumption.
