But that's just the plan Blockbuster has, to scoop up the Netflix customers who've recently left the movie rental group because of the rising prices they've recently revealed. What Blockbuster has here is a 30-day free trial of their normally $9.99 to $14.99 per month service known as Blockbuster Total Access.

Blockbuster drops price of in store rentals to compete with Netflix and Redbox

Blockbuster went into bankruptcy after its expensive rentals and high late fees helped to drive the average consumer to kiosk rentals and streaming services. Blockbuster was for a long time the biggest rental chain in the country and had multiple stores in many areas. The company isn't alone, the entire DVD market is seeing profits drop. Blockbuster was recently purchased by Dish Network and the rental store has now announced some changes to their in store rental policies.

DISH Network grabs Blockbuster bankruptcy assets

DISH Network has snapped up Blockbuster's assets for $320m, after the bankrupt rental retailer put itself up for auction after facing an insurmountable $1bn in debt. "With its more than 1,700 store locations, a highly recognizable brand and multiple methods of delivery, Blockbuster will complement our existing video offerings while presenting cross-marketing and service extension opportunities for DISH Network" Tom Cullen, DISH Network's exec in charge of sales, marketing and programming reckons, suggesting that the satellite company won't immediately shutter all the stores.

Rovi Declares Intent to Buy Sonic Solutions

In an announcement late Wednesday, Rovi Corp. has officially made it known that they have every intent in buying Sonic Solutions. In their proposal, the company confirmed that the deal would be worth $720 million in a cash-and-stocks deal. The result of a purchase like this, both companies believe, would be the collected power to change the way digital distribution is handled within the video entertainment market. They hope to make it better.

Blockbuster bankruptcy confirmed: little love for existing creditors

No great surprise, but Blockbuster has officially announced that it has entered "pre-arranged" Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in an attempt to salvage a viable business from one currently mired in almost $1bn of debt.  Although all roughly 3,000 retail stores across the US will remain open initially, Blockbuster is promising to "evaluate its US store portfolio" and is likely to axe 500-800 locations, according to earlier predictions.

Blockbuster bankruptcy imminent tip insiders

Ailing retailer Blockbuster is tipped to be preparing to announce its pre-prepared Chapter 11 bankruptcy today, according to the WSJ.  The company - whose stock has fallen to just $0.06 per share - is yet to publicly confirm its bankruptcy, and is apparently close to finalizing its restructuring plans.  However, investors are said to be "haggling over a few small issues" that could see the announcement pushed to the end of this week or even the beginning of next week.
