After a few good leaks of RIM's upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2 for Verizon, it's the turn of Vodafone's GSM version to appear in the wild.  Spotted by the gang at Benezblog.de, the Vodafone Germany smartphone has that all-important WiFi connectivity in place, just as we've heard the Verizon model will.

Verizon slash smartphone prices to $99

Bargain-hunters in search of their next smartphone may have another reason to stop by their local Verizon store, with the Boy Genius Report suggesting that the US carrier is planning to cut prices of their entire existing smartphone range to $99.  Billed as a reaction to the $99 iPhone 3G on AT&T, it's also speculated that it's preparation for at least two incoming devices.

BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 gets video demo

Don't ask how, but CrackBerry have managed to lay their hands on not one but two working BlackBerry Storm 2 prototypes, and seeing as they know we're all just a little bit interested in the upcoming touchscreen smartphone they've shot a demo video.  First-impressions are positive, with an improved SurePress touchscreen and better on-screen typing feel.

BlackBerry Storm 2 (aka 9550) detailed; AT&T Storm 2 “relatively soon”

According to the Boy Genius Report, RIM’s BlackBerry Storm 2 – the touchscreen follow-up to the original Storm launched back in November – will indeed include WiFi b/g along with EVDO Rev.A and 2100MHz UMTS (for roaming).  Known as the BlackBerry 9550, it will also be joined by the 9520, a version of the Storm 2 for GSM carriers AT&T and Rogers Wireless.

BlackBerry Storm 2 gets hands-on

RIM's BlackBerry Storm 2 may not have been confirmed by the company themselves yet, but that hasn't stopped the handset showing up in the wild more than once.  Now Engadget have had an opportunity to spend more than a few flighty seconds with the touchscreen follow-up; turns out, RIM have listened to criticism and dumped SurePress, replacing it with a more standard capacitive touchscreen.

RIM confirms Blackberry Storm 2 for 2009

We heard last week from a reliable source that we would be seeing a new Blackberry Storm soon, aptly named the Storm 2. It appears our source was  nearly 100% correct.  RIM’s Alain Segond von Banchet, Channel Sales manager in the Netherlands has confirmed the release of the Storm 2.  It will be due out in 2009, and for Europe, late ’09 or early 2010.

Storm 2 getting new text-entry system, claims RIM employee

According to a RIM employee, the BlackBerry Storm 2 will offer a new text input method, addressing one of the key concerns many users and reviewers had with the smartphone.  Alain Segond von Banchet, who works at RIM, told Dutch site Tweakers.net that the company had not yet decided on a name for the next-gen touchscreen phone, but that it was due to reach market at the end of this year or the beginning of 2010.  (more…)
