BlackBerry Q10 Review

BlackBerry Q10 Review

Blending the new OS with both a touchscreen and the sort of physical text-entry functionality that BlackBerry addicts have been swearing by for years, the Q10 promises to bridge the gap between the Brave New World of touch and those for whom stabbing out an email reply wouldn't be complete without the crackle of tiny keys. Does that make it the missing link in smartphones, or just a bygone of an era that ought to be forgotten? Read on for our full review.

Blackberry CEO Thorsten Heins believes that the Blackberry Q10 will be the company's saving grace, moreso than the Blackberry Z10. First day Blackberry Q10 sales in the UK has surpassed the company's expectations with Carphone Warehouse's outlet, Selfridges, saying that the device sold thousands of units per hour. Within 6 hours, the retailer sold out its entire stock of Blackberry Q10 devices in every one of its stores.

Skype hits BlackBerry 10, but the Z10 is out of luck for now

Skype has landed for BlackBerry 10, but would-be VoIP users will need a Q10 initially, until BlackBerry updates its initial Z10 smartphone. The new app, confirmed as incoming only earlier this week, offers voice and video calling, instant messaging, and text messaging, just like Skype on other mobile platforms; however, it requires BlackBerry 10.1, loaded from the off on the newer Q10, but still pending for the Z10.

BlackBerry 10 March release: far too late

When the company formerly known as RIM first announced that they'd be working on the system that would eventually become BlackBerry 10, it was a year and a half ago. It takes a long time to develop an operating system, even when it's a mobile operating system meant to operate with far fewer abilities than a full-powered desktop OS - but that's not where BlackBerry went wrong. The company known as BlackBerry fell apart the moment they announced a new operating system more than a week before they showed it working in the real world.
