BlackBerry Media Box tipped: Apple TV meets Presenter with PlayBook power

RIM is reportedly working on a BlackBerry Media Box, a compact set-top box (STB) that would run the same QNX OS as the PlayBook and the company's upcoming "superphone." According to a trusted source speaking to n4bb, the new STB would be based on similar hardware to the PlayBook and has been described as a crossover between the BlackBerry Presenter and the Apple TV. AT&T approves PlayBook Bridge app; $20 if you want to tether

AT&T has finally approved the BlackBerry Bridge app which will allow PlayBook owners to wirelessly connect their tablet to their BlackBerry smartphone. The carrier "has thoroughly reviewed the application" an AT&T representative told AllThingsD, "and at noon today it will be made available via BlackBerry App World." Read The Full Story

RIM slashes PlayBook sales goals for Q2 2011

RIM is facing a bleak future right now as its mobile devices are losing ground in just about all categories. The prospects for the many are grim and to help shore up the budgets RIM is starting layoffs of workers. Research In Motion (RIM) has just announced its first quarter results and things are not looking good. The company's net income for the quarter was $695 million, which is down from the $934 million of the previous quarter as well as down from the $769 million of the same quarter last year. RIM is apparently readying a collaboration with UI and user-experience specialists YOU i Labs, the same company that HTC originally worked with on HTC Sense. According to GigaOM's sources, while an acquisition of YOU i Labs was first predicted, in fact the two companies are simply working in partnership; the Canadian interface developers already collaborates with Teknision, the company responsible for the BlackBerry PlayBook's UI. BlackBerry PlayBook 3G Version Available Now

It was recently rumored that a cellular version of the BlackBerry PlayBook would be arriving soon and that it would be a 4G WiMAX version. A Google search for the words PlayBook 4G revealed a hidden product page from the big yellow carrier suggesting that it was readying the tablet for a WiMAX launch. PlayBook gets OS Update, Not the One We Were Waiting For

BlackBerry PlayBook owners can now update their Tablet OS to v1.0.5. This free over-the-air update was announced by RIM yesterday, and is the second update to BlackBerry’s new Tablet OS. The update included some needed features like the ability to charge your PlayBook while the device is powered down.
