A quick glance at this device and you might think, “Hey, no big deal.  That’s a BlackBerry Bold.” Upon closer inspection, you’ll discover that this is not at all a Research In Motion built phone, but instead, a convincing rip-off.  Behold – the BlueBerry.

att blackberry bold slashgear 18 vn 480x416It’s been all about the smartphones this week, with the long-awaited HTC Touch HD finally reaching our hands for one of the first full English-language reviews online.  If our initial video demos last week whetted your appetite, head over to part one and part two of our full review to really gorge yourself.  Meanwhile, to cheer up those in the US who are still smarting over HTC’s decision not to offer the Touch HD there, we reviewed AT&T’s newly released BlackBerry Bold.

T3 got their hands on photos of an unboxing of the Vodafone BlackBerry Storm today. They added a nice little note stating that the actual Storm that Vadafone ships will most likely come in a little different packaging.  There was an Internal PR event at RIMs headquarters on October 17th, ironically the date on the device matches the date of the event suggesting that the pictures originated at the event.

If the $299.99 sticker price on the new AT&T BlackBerry Bold is too rich for you right now, Walmart might have the answer.  They’re currently offering the new smartphone – which we glowingly reviewed here - free, after a mail-in rebate.  Of course, there’s always a catch to these deals, and unsurprisingly they collar you with the monthly fees.

This year has seen two game-changers for RIM, in the shape of the BlackBerry Storm and the BlackBerry Bold.  The former is easier to explain – it’s the company’s first touchscreen device – but the latter has been more of an evolution for the messaging specialists.  While loved by many, the BlackBerry line-up had been looking progressively more and more bland compared to rivals; with the Bold, RIM have taken the opportunity to give it more than just a slick new casing.

Cellphones have dominated our week here at SlashGear, with a number of much-anticipated handsets finally showing up for some play.  We’ve reviewed HTC’s Touch Pro and unboxed the RIM BlackBerry Bold, but perhaps the most exciting arrival was the HTC Touch HD.  Check out the unboxing and hands-on video; hopefully they’ll tide you over until the full SlashGear review this coming week.

The BlackBerry Bold is finally here.  It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve played with the Bold, it’s never the same until your very own review unit lands on your front door.   It’s still a little too early for me to say too much right now, but I plan on spending the next few days getting to know the Bold.

AT&T have released full details about their free WiFi scheme, which as we already knew offers Apple iPhone and iPhone 3G users access to in excess of 17,000 hotspots.  The carrier hasn’t just limited their promotion to one type of fruit, however; select BlackBerry owners will also get free access too.
