For the Canadian-based Research In Motion, the release of the BlackBerry Torch on AT&T was meant to signify a departure from the norm that RIM has been so connected to over the years. And while the Torch, and its Operating System (BlackBerry 6), may indeed be different for the company as a whole, it wasn't as revolutionary as many thought it would be. Perhaps that change is coming in their first tablet endeavor, the BlackPad, with the latest rumors suggesting that RIM isn't going to use BlackBerry 6, but instead go a different route. AT&T and RIM Event Scheduled for August 3rd, New Device and OS6 Showcased?

Sure enough, here's the invite. Research In Motion and AT&T are apparently teaming up to bring some big news to the industry, and they've chosen their date, along with the early morning hours of that date, to break the news. Today is a big day for Research In Motion. After officially announcing two new devices, they've gone ahead and revealed that their next major Operating System upgrade is coming soon. Perhaps not as soon as we'd like, but beggar's can't be choosers. After seeing the leaked images almost a week ago today, we were eagerly anticipating the announcement from Waterloo.
