Defibrillator-shaped toaster crying out for a Steve Martin film to goof in

, Aug 3rd 2010 Discuss [0]

While we wouldn't argue with some kitchen/hospital crossovers - better food while you're recuperating would be nice - we can't help but think designing a toaster to look like a defibrillator opens up all manner of potential pratfalls. The handiwork of Shay Carmon, toast/e/r is tongue-in-cheek billed as a way to "revive your old bread". Read The Full Story

Kokonatchi is your Japanese USB Twitter peanut [Video]

, Jul 8th 2010 Discuss [0]

We're not quite sure what it is that makes tech designers think that everyone wants a gelatinous flashing blob sat on their desk, changing color and shivering to communicate Twitter updates, but they keep cropping up every so often.  Students at the University of Tokyo and Waseda University are the latest to attempt it, with their peanut-shaped Kokonatchi robot changing color depending on the tone and mood of your incoming Twitter messages and even vibrating if "frightened". iPhone 4 volume button switch-up; this is just getting silly now

, Jun 25th 2010 Discuss [1]

Not only are you not holding it right, you might not be pressing your iPhone 4 right either.  In a masterpiece of button madness, at least one new iPhone 4 handset has been found to have its volume controls swapped around: the button marked + actually reduces the volume, and vice-versa. Batman Tumbler golf cart is slower than original (but easier to park)

, Jun 24th 2010 Discuss [0]

There's no denying that in the world of DIY Tumbler replicas - a pretty small world, we'll grant you - Bob Dullam's full-sized version leads the pack; still, we've a lot of love for this dinky Tumbler golf cart version too.  Spotted by This LA Life on the Warner Bros. studio lot, the Batman-themed buggy was originally thought to be film director Chris Nolan's ride of choice but later turned out to belong to another, unnamed director who just so happens to be a huge Batman fan. Dyson Air Multiplier AM02 and AM03 bladeless fans debut

, Jun 22nd 2010 Discuss [2]

Dyson has launched two new fans, using the same unusual blade-hidden design of the original Dyson Air Multiplier debuted back in October 2009.  The  AM01 desktop model is joined by the Dyson AM02 Tower Fan, a floor-standing unit with full-length air pushing abilities, and the Dyson AM03 Pedestal Fan, which basically takes the head unit from the AM01 and puts it on a free-standing mount. Vuzix Wrap Fashion Shades probably won’t make video eyewear glamorous

, Jun 21st 2010 Discuss [0]

To be honest, we're not entirely sure that a shortage of colors are what's holding back adoption of video eyewear, but Vuzix seem particularly excited by the idea of different versions of their Vuzix Wrap model.  The snap-in red, blue, amber and mirror-finish lenses will, reckons the CEO of Vuzix, allow you to "seamlessly complement any mood, personality or outfit." MB&F tease with HM4 Thunderbolt timepiece

, Jun 21st 2010 Discuss [0]

Unusual timepiece specialists MB&F haven't been resting on their laurels since unveiling the, ahem, busty HM3 Frog watch; instead they've been cooking up something even more bizarre.  The company's new Horological Machine No4 THUNDERBOLT is based on the distinctive HM4 engine MB&F outed at the Basel Fair back in March (which you can see after the cut), and now they're teasing the first profile shot of the new timepiece. Lomography Spinner 360 camera captures full panoramas [Video]

, Jun 9th 2010 Discuss [0]

"You spin me right round, baby, right round, like a Lomography Spinner 360° baby, right round round round."  That might not be quite what Dead or Alive sang, but it's fitting today what with Lomo launching their first - and likely to be only - spinning 35mm camera.  The Lomography Spinner 360° is a film-based camera mounted on a handle, which can be spun 360-degrees by yanking on the pull-cord. Jobs “freedom from porn” iPad quote prompts billboard hacking [Video]

, Jun 9th 2010 Discuss [0]

When Steve Jobs said that the iPad offered "Freedom from porn" last month, it was just the latest in a series of digs against rival platforms - Android, PCs - that allow risque content to be viewed.  The Apple CEO probably didn't expect it to kick start a guerilla street art campaign, though; that, however, is exactly what has happened.  Apple adverts near the Moscone center where Apple held their WWDC 2010 keynote earlier this week were modified using self-adhesive overlays that changed the generic content into something a little more smutty. DIY Doctor Who Weeping Angel costume looks terrifyingly good

, Jun 8th 2010 Discuss [4]

We don't tend to feature fan costumes very often - they have to be pretty impressive to get past our gadget-obsession, after all - but Replica Prop Forum member penwiper's Weeping Angel costume based on the creepy Doctor Who aliens is certainly enough to get our attention.  Created for DragonCon 2008, it even caught the attention of Firefly star Jewel Staite, who you can see getting strangled here. Pulse News Reader for iPad praised by Jobs then yanked from App Store

, Jun 8th 2010 Discuss [1]

It's every young developers' dream: you create an app for the iPad, get glowing feedback in the press, and then Steve Jobs mentions your software while standing on stage during the WWDC 2010 keynote.  Unfortunately for the developers of the Pulse News Reader app which Jobs did indeed namecheck yesterday, the aftermath wasn't chart-topping sales but a takedown notice from the NY Times and their software being yanked unceremoniously from the App Store. R2D2 observatory dome prank is an inspired homage [video]

, Jun 4th 2010 Discuss [0]

This brave student endeavour is being billed as a prank, but who wouldn't want their observatory to look like R2D2?  If you ask us, the astronomers at Carleton College should be thanking the students for making their dome look far better.  As for the homage part, apparently the idea isn't new: MIT students did something similar, though slightly less convincing, back in 1999.
