Battlefield 4 beta not exclusive to MoH: Warfighter after all

Yesterday, Electronic Arts announced an "exclusive" Battlefield 4 beta for those who pre-order Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition. Shortly after the announcement, Battlefield 3 community manager Ian Tornay took to Reddit to answer any questions fans may have about the upcoming sequel, and as it turns out, a lot of fans had a problem with the use of the word "exclusive" in EA's announcement. Tornay has clarified the announcement a bit, saying that purchasing Medal of Honor: Warfighter will not be the only way to gain access to the Battlefield 4 beta. Read The Full Story

Apple releases iOS 6 beta 2 to developers

For those of you out there with a taste for Beta-testing and a heart for developing, Apple has released the first wide-release version of iOS 6 to the public. This version is available to anyone with an Apple developer account and is available now at Apple's developer site, but will not be ready for prime-time for at least a few more weeks. This version of Apple's mobile operating system will work on most Apple mobile products but will not function on the oldest versions of the iPod touch or the original iPad. Read The Full Story

Microsoft unveils on{x} automation app for Android

Microsoft has just introduced an exciting mobile automation platform called on{x}, which will be available only on Android smartphones initially, before even the company's own Windows Phones. Flipboard Beta for Android hands-on

This week the developers behind the ultra-popular news and social media reading application Flipboard have begun pushing past iOS and the Galaxy S III to include all Android smartphones. This version of Flipboard is available for download in a Beta form (which you will see in action here) and can be accessed by anyone with an Android device and a thirst for adventurous downloads and installs. Those of you wishing to try out the application before its final release can do so with the promise that they will report any and all bugs to the head bug swatter.

Slow Windows 8 downloads indicate low interest

If you rushed to download the Windows 8 Consumer Preview the minute it was available, this story probably isn't for you. If you simply went "meh" when it became available and updated your Windows 7 security definitions, then apparently you're in the vast majority. According to the analytics firm Net Applications, just about .11% of Internet users connected from a Windows 8 device last week, showing flat growth numbers from March. When compared with the same numbers during Windows 7's Beta period in 2009, they're at about the 40% mark. Read The Full Story

Firefox 13 Beta turns on SPDY and tabs on demand

Spotify updated for Android 4.0 ICS

This week we’re getting an early preview of the newest version of the mobile version of the Spotify app, complete with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich compatibility. This update to the app has been long-awaited, especially since Spotify‘s Premium Userbase is the only set of folks able to get the full mobile experience with Android. This update has what Spotify describes as a full “top-to-bottom” redesign, works with much higher resolution graphics than ever before, and has an improved new music discovery engine.

Microsoft kills the Start button in latest Windows 8 build

Microsoft hasn't been shy about the radical direction it's taking with the user interface design on Windows 8, but it looks like their latest change may be a big one. PCBeta reports that the latest build of Microsoft's next operating system does away with the ubiquitous "Start" button, which has graced Windows for almost twenty years. The functionality of the Start button remains, but as a limited "hotspot" in the lower-left corner by default, not unlike the Aero Peek feature in Windows 7. Even that functionality is only present in the classic or desktop mode, which drops the shiny new Metro tile interface for a more traditional windowed UI. Read The Full Story
