Best Buy CEO and director Brian Dunn has resigned, leaving director G. Mike Mikan to take the reins as interim CEO as the retailer attempts to find someone who can lead the electronics chain to profit. Described as a decision based on "no disagreements between Mr. Dunn and the company on any matter relating to operations, financial controls, policies or procedures" by Best Buy, no reason for Dunn's resignation has been given, though it's worth noting that the company made a net loss of $1.7bn in its most recent financial quarter. Happy Thursday, everyone. It's time to check out what made news on this day, as we approach ever more closely the end of the month. Best Buy restructure includes 50 US store cuts

, Mar 29th 2012 Discuss [3]

Your local Best Buy store may be right along the razor's edge this week as the electronics giant makes relatively large cuts to their retail footprint amid slow profit growth. Included in this cut are 50 big box stores inside 2012 as well as an estimated 400 jobs. The jobs, surprisingly enough, are said by Best Buy to be cutting mainly from corporate headquarters - this pointing toward a restructuring of the company's business as well as its physical presence in the United States. Best Buy nearly matching Apple in iPhone sales

, Mar 23rd 2012 Discuss [1]

While Apple stores are immense in popularity, their scope doesn’t reach quite as wide as some other retail outlets. A few years ago, Apple partnered up with Best Buy in order to shift more iPhones. Best Buy host miniature Apple stores wtihin their own retail space, typically in locations Apple feel aren’t financially justifiable. That partnership is definitely paying off, as Best Buy sells almost as many iPhones as Apple. Read The Full Story

Stock likely tight for Apple partners’ new iPad sales

, Mar 14th 2012 Discuss [1]

This morning it's been announced that Apple will not only be selling the new iPad from their own retail locations, they'll be working with a series of 3rd party stores as well - this likely spreading the stock thin for everyone involved. This iPad release will have Apple joined by Best Buy, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Target, and Walmart, not to mention the two big mobile carriers giving this iPad its first dose of 4G LTE: AT&T and Verizon. Like last year's release of the iPad 2, customers should expect lines to be long and stock to be short - people are already lined up waiting for the Friday 8AM release, believe it or not! Best Buy begins HTC One X pre-orders

, Feb 28th 2012 Discuss [1]

HTC's new One X phone is the most sophisticated and technologically powerful phone by HTC yet (and HTC has put out some pretty monstrous phones). Because of that, Best Buy thinks customers will be all over it and has decided to already begin taking pre-orders for the device. You'll need to specifically ask a Best Buy employee for the pre-order, as it isn't advertised in the store. Read The Full Story

, Feb 23rd 2012 Discuss [31]

Best Buy has apologized for the fact that pornography managed to show up on a 55-inch TV in its store two days in a row. The retailer said it did not know who was responsible for the salacious content, but said it was due to someone hacking into the store's Wi-Fi network. We know that Research in Motion's update to the Playbook operating system is due out on February 21, but we're still a little unclear on what exactly that update will bring with it. According to a new teaser pages on the Canadian version of retailer Best Buy's website, at least part of the new update will be the addition of new apps - apps that arguably should have made their way to the Playbook ages ago.

Best Buy talks about Apple HDTV customer survey

Yesterday, I mentioned that over the weekend a customer survey had surfaced on the Best Buy website that asked customers questions about an Apple HDTV. We wondered at the time if Best Buy had some inside information, or if it was just fishing for answers on what customers thought about the rumored product. If you recall, that survey outlined an Apple HDTV with a 42-inch screen, iOS HDTV with full HD resolution selling for $1499. Read The Full Story

The rumors over the last several months have been swirling that Apple is hard at work on its first actual TV set. In rumors the TV set has been called the Apple ITV and simply the Apple TV. We still don't know what the official name will be, or even that Apple is actually working on the product. However, as with many Apple rumors, there is a good chance, the product is in the works. Best Buy has been running a consumer survey that pops up on its website for some viewers asking specifically about an Apple HDTV. Read The Full Story
