Cross-platform BBM reportedly scrapped

Rumors in the past have suggested that RIM may port its popular BlackBerry Messenger application to iOS and Android. The Waterloo based smartphone company has been struggling in the market thanks to the meteoric rise of both of those platforms, and the release of a cross-platform BBM could have opened some new revenue streams. Jim Balsillie wanted to open up BBM to rival devices

Ex co-CEO of RIM, Jim Balsillie, was reportedly in talks with various mobile carriers across the world in order to allow rival phones to be able to connect to BlackBerry services. Sources speaking to Reuters say that Balsillie was in talks with AT&T and Verizon in the United States, as well as Vodafone, Telefonica, France Telecom, and Deutsche Telekom in Europe. BlackBerry BBM integrated with Facebook, Twitter and more

The BlackBerry BBM service will be integrated with Twitter and Facebook, RIM has announced, allowing users of the encrypted IM system to quickly share tweets or Facebook status updates directly from the app. The new social networking integration is part of RIM's enhancement of BBM connected apps set to roll out over the next two weeks, with new versions of BlackBerry Travel, BlackBerry App World and BBM Music all hooking into the service. Indian government close to implementing BlackBerry surveillance

RIM has run into trouble before with local governments over BlackBerry messenger. The company managed to avoid a ban of BlackBerry services in the UAE and India back in 2010 when it began cooperating with local telcos. RIM again tipped to be selling out to Samsung

When the going gets tough, the tough sell out to Samsung, or at least that's what Research In Motion's investors seem to be hoping will happen now that BlackBerry is in a downward spiral the likes of which have never been seen in the mobile industry before. A source trusted by Jonathan Geller of BGR has reportedly tipped off some inner workings of the RIM team saying that amongst the many possible buyers looking into purchasing RIM outright, Samsung is the current front-runner. RIM re-introduces BBM Music, release promised inside 24 hours

Though it's not the first time we've heard of BBM Music, or heck, even the first time we've seen it, it is the first time RIM is promising the software to BlackBerry users for real, and it'll be out today! All you BlackBerry users have promised that the BBM Music app will be available for downloading inside the next 24 hours, (starting this morning, I suppose, since they've not named a specific time,) to all you citizens of the United States, Australia, and of course Canada. BlackBerry services go offline as servers fail

RIM's BlackBerry handsets have been left cut off from the web, email and BBM after an apparent server crash took phones in Europe, the Middle East and Africa offline. The fault began at roughly 11am today, and according to the BBC is being attributed to a datacenter in Slough, UK, responsible for the regions affected. BBM for Android screen shots surface

If you are an Android user that has lots of friends on BBM for Blackberry and you want in on the Blackberry Messenger action, it looks like the first proof that the app is coming has surfaced.
