BBM chief leaves BlackBerry

BlackBerry's EVP of BBM, Andrew Bocking, has left the company, over what some sources claim are disagreements of how the messaging platform should integrate with the rest of the company. Bocking had led the BBM team since June last year, having previously run its software product and ecosystem division, along with product management. Most recently, he was responsible for leading BlackBerry through the process of opening up BBM to rival platforms iOS and Android.

BBM “Find Friends” feature added for iOS and Android

Just in case you're having trouble finding friends using BlackBerry's own BBM on your iPhone or Android device, BlackBerry has added a feature called "Find Friends on BBM" to the mix. This update allows the user to detect all the friends you've got in your contact list (harvested from your phone) that already use BBM. Doing this allows you to quickly choose who you'd like to connect with by sending them a unique PIN code.

BlackBerry pushes BBM with Android preloads

Google might prefer Android users to stick with Hangouts for their instant messaging, but BlackBerry has inked a deal to preload BBM on a number of handsets running the OS in mulitple regions. The agreement - which will affect select Android phones offered in Africa, India, Indonesia, Latin America, and the Middle East - won't force new owners to register for a BBM account, but it will put the app right in front of them, as BlackBerry tries to push its cross-platform service out from under the shadow of BlackBerry 10.

BBM update for iOS hits wi-fi iPad, brings Android battery fix

BlackBerry Messenger - or BBM - has been updated today to include a list of fixes and feature additions for Android and the inclusion of a couple new devices for iOS. This new version of BBM works with the wi-fi-only iPad now as well as the iPod touch where the first version did not. This update adds Android abilities to do things like sharing a BBM PIN and PIN barcode to social networks.

BBM for WiFi-only iPad and iPod touch “within 24 hours”

BlackBerry's BBM instant-messaging service will be updated to run on WiFi-only iOS devices like the iPad and iPod touch "within 24 hours" the company has confirmed. The new version follows BBM's release for iOS and Android in late October for cellularly-enabled devices, with head of BBM Andrew Bocking confirming the imminent update to SlashGear today. The move will mean that owners of non-3G/4G iPad and iPod touch devices will be able to join the growing number of BBM users.
