HyperMac rebranding to HyperJuice over Apple legal issues

Powerpack manufacturer HyperMac has announced it is changing its name to HyperJuice, as another in the company's legal workarounds after Apple complaints over its external batteries and business practices.  The company confirmed last month that it would be ceasing sales of its HyperMac Mac charging cables at midnight Pacific time today, after Apple took issue with the use of its proprietary MagSafe and iPod dock connectors. Battery estimates from manufacturers usually hover in-between "hopelessly outlandish" and only "if you leave the device in your pocket", so it's good to see Notion Ink being upfront about their Adam slate's power limitations.  After saying that with "normal" use the Pixel Qi equipped tablet managed 15+ hours of runtime, the company has now put together a list of ways in which you can gnaw that down to just 6hrs.  As you might expect, heavy use of HD video, GPS, the camera or Flash can all be relied on. Notion Ink promise “minimum of 15hrs” battery on Adam slate

If there's one thing we've come to expect from ARM-based tablets, it's lengthy battery life, and while the iPad has been ruling the roost with its over 10hrs of runtime, it seems Notion Ink could be stealing Apple's crown.  According to the company's blog, Notion Ink is seeing "from more than 2 full days to minimum of 15 hours" of use from a single charge of their Adam slate. Electric cars, as well as other vehicles featuring renewable energy and eco-friendly statistics, may be the perfect fit for some out there, but for car manufacturers, there's still one problem: the size and weight of the battery therein. While companies try to figure out how to make the battery lighter and smaller, yet still produce the same amount of energy as they do now (if not more), it looks like Volvo, working with the Imperial College in London, has other plans. Battery-case manufacturer mophie has put its juice pack for iPhone 4 up for sale, promising roughly twice the power of the Apple smartphone's own battery for $79.95.  The hard-shell case - which protects the back and edges of the iPhone 4, while matching the smartphone's color scheme - has a pass-through USB connection, for simultaneously recharging both case and phone while also synchronizing with iTunes. LCD Androids best AMOLED in browser battery testing

AMOLED was billed as the double-punch to traditional LCD panels on smartphones: better image quality and lower power consumption, adding up to a handset that lasted longer and was nicer to use.  According to Laptop's testing, however, the reality isn't quite so clear cut.  They put eight Android smartphones - including the DROID X, Epic 4G and EVO 4G - through their paces running a custom battery testing app, and found that Motorola's LCD panels actually came to the top of the pile.
