New iPad can last 25 hours as LTE hotspot

When testing out the new iPad's battery life, AnandTech discovered that the device could actually achieve 25.3 hours on a single charge when used as a personal hotspot with the power-hungry Retina display turned off. This is about 5 times longer than the LTE MiFi hotspots from Novatel and Samsung. The Verizon LTE iPad model, however, is the only one at the moment that has this feature enabled. Do you seriously think the new iPad’s battery isn’t good enough?

When it comes to new iPad battery life, how long is long enough? Gasps of surprise as Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the third-gen tablet would last as long as its predecessor – despite the Retina Display, quadcore graphics chip and LTE connectivity – have given way to sniping and frustration over whether the tablet gets warm during charging, whether it lives up to the predicted times, and whether the battery is really as full as it ever claims to be. It’s not clear, though, whether owners have legitimate concerns or if they’re simply complaining for the sake of it.

Arm Flycatcher chips aim for “years” of battery time

The Arm Holdings group have revealed this week their newest bit of architecture for microcontrollers based on their "Flycatcher" design, noting that this new technology will, amongst other things, offer "years of life from a single battery-pack." This new architecture will have one third less energy draw than its predecessors, they only offered with 8 and 16-bit capabilities while Arm's newest chip is capable of 32-bit processing. These bits of futuristic technology built with Cortex -M0+ architecture will have chip-makers building microprocessors with fabulously advanced capabilities at the same time as requiring what they say is "ultra low power." During this last week at CES 2012, an absolute massacre of running, typing, snatching quick snacks, tripping over wires, smashing into walls, and most importantly, transferring electronics in and out of my rucksack of choice, I’ve got to say one thing about the Powerbag Business Class Pack: I’ve never seen another backpack keep all the pieces separate and organized the way this one does so very successfully. It’s almost like the fact that this sack has a rechargeable battery in the bottom of it is a bonus feature, that’s how much I’ve enjoyed using it to tote my devices through Las Vegas.
