It's time for Barnes and Noble to make an effort to cross the sea as their Nook lineup is ready and willing to spread across the entirety of the UK this summer. The company has been working with a variety of UK retailers and has struck a collection of deals to stock several models of the Nook e-reader tablet lineup this Fall. Starting in mid-October the Nook Simple Touch as well as the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight will be popping up both online and in physical shops across the nation.

Barnes & Noble cuts prices on Nook Tablet and Nook Color
Barnes & Noble has been making its Nook line of eReaders for a while now. Yesterday Barnes & Noble announced it was cutting prices on two of its most popular Nook products. Both the Nook Tablet and the Nook Color have had prices reduced to their lowest point since the launch of the devices. The new prices are good at all 700 nationwide stores and online.

Barnes & Noble adds maps to Nook with skobbler
Barnes & Noble’s Nook tablets are limited in their mapping abilities, currently relying on Google's web interface to access any kind of maps. That’s set to change today, as the company has announced a partnership with skobbler that will see the Nook tablets gain the ability to natively search and view maps. It’s an interesting move from Barnes & Noble to avoid using Google’s services, although we imagine the advent of the Nexus 7 and its low price point has made the company’s options clearer.

Display quality is playing an increasingly important role for tablets, with manufacturers now moving towards higher resolution screens or adding other features that add to the overall experience. CNET has heard from a reliable source that Barnes & Noble is planning a shake up with its Nook tablets, saying that the company is aiming to introduce a new 7-inch tablet with “revolutionary screen technology.”

B&N NOOK for Web puts ebooks in your browser
Barnes & Noble has launched NOOK for Web, a way to read ebooks from the company's catalog in your browser rather than on a dedicated ereader, tablet or smartphone. The new service runs in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer, with instant access - registration free - to ebook samples, and then the same purchase options as on a NOOK Tablet or similar device.

Barnes & Noble NOOK sales slump; pins hopes on GlowLight
Barnes & Noble has reported its fiscal 2012 financial results, and it's bad news for NOOK as revenues from the digital ereader hardware business slump. While digital content sales grew year-on-year, up 65-percent for the most recent quarter, revenue from hardware sales dipped more than 10-percent. B&N says NOOK business sales overall were up in 2012 as a whole, but Q4 performance dived as retailers struggled to shift the ereaders.

Barnes & Noble denies Microsoft tablet involvement
Barnes & Noble has denied any involvement with today's Microsoft event, despite speculation that the book retailer would partner up on a tablet based on Windows RT. Denial of the deal was first cited by Dow Jones, Business Insider reports, though apparently subsequently confirmed by a B&N spokesperson to business network Benzinga.

Target drops eReaders left and right

Microsoft Nook interaction only apps deep
Though it might seem like the obvious next step in line for Microsoft to push Windows 8 to the Nook hardware after they invested millions into Barnes & Noble's newly formed NewCo for the hardware and subsequent apps, it's simply not in the cards that tablet. With Barnes & Noble having already invested heavily in the idea that their bookstore and app environment works with Android - not exactly like Google would like it, but still - they're not likely to move with Windows 8 for future ereaders any time soon. Instead it's the apps we'll be seeing integrated for Nook, the Barnes & Noble library of content, and Windows 8-toting hardware galore.

Apple, not Amazon, is Microsoft’s NOOK Motivation
Barely was the e-ink dry on Microsoft and Barnes & Noble’s $300m NOOK agreement when pundits were questioning the wisdom of adding Amazon to the software company’s existing roster of big-name rivals. Microsoft is already under attack in mobile and computing, so the commentary went; throwing one of the biggest retailers around into the mixture was at best foolish and at worst evidence of Microsoft spreading itself thin when it needs to be extra lavish with its strokes. That analysis is wrong, though. Make no mistake: Apple, not Amazon, is in Microsoft’s sights today.
