NOOK Color cut to $199

Barnes & Noble has slashed the price of the NOOK Color, bringing the touchscreen Android-based tablet to directly compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire at $199.99. Slotting into the middle-ground between the new NOOK Tablet and the reduced NOOK Simple Touch, the NOOK Color will also get a firmware update in December that B&N calls its “largest ever.” Read on for all the change details.

A faster E Ink display takes pride of place, something B&N reckons takes just 450ms for each page-turn versus the Kindle's 600ms. This week Barnes & Noble has released details on it’s next generation NOOK device, the NOOK Tablet, an e-reader with twice the power of its predecessor with many of the same same specifications besides. Outside you’ll find the same 7-inch VividView IPS LCD display found on the original NOOK Color and the overall shape of the device is quite similar as well. Inside you’ll find a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP4 processor at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot capable of holding 32GB of additional space for all your Barnes & Noble distributed multimedia.

Barnes and Noble NOOK Tablet details leaked

This week the folks at Barnes & Noble have had leaked the newest addition to their NOOK family, a device by the name of NOOK Tablet, one that looks rather similar to the NOOK Color of the past but with a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP4 processor instead. Inside you’ll also find 16GB of internal storage as well as a microSD card slot which can take 32GB, battery life of something around 4 hours of video playback (with wi-fi on) or 8 hours off. This device will connect over Wi-fi only and has the same 7-inch VividView IPS display as the NOOK Color.

Barnes & Noble has scheduled an event seemingly to launch the company's new NOOK ereader, with the New York City press conference taking place on Monday, November 7. While the invite itself makes no mention of the ereader, the NOOK logo features prominently; leaks last week suggested that B&N would indeed launch the NOOK Color 2 on the 7th, in an attempt to take on the new Kindle Fire. Barnes & Noble is tipped to be readying a new NOOK Color model for launch on November 7, with company employees suggesting the retailer is preparing eye-catching "NOOK boutiques" in its stores to push the new ereader. Multiple sources speaking to The Digital Reader have supposedly confirmed the early November launch, a timeframe which would see the new NOOK Color make its debut shortly before shipments of the Amazon Kindle Fire begin. Borders customer data transfers to Barnes & Noble, privacy concerns arise

If you were sad that Borders closed this July, and with it all of the data on which books you purchased when, you may be in luck, because Barnes & Noble owns that data now. During the bankruptcy court which saw the sales of Borders assets across the board, personal data (preferences in reading material, DVDs, music, etc) of some 45 million Borders customers included, Barnes & Noble saw the opportunity and grabbed for it, and just this last week, that court approved such a sale. NOOK Color expands to Target Superstore nationwide

Today Barnes & Noble have announced their newest sales partner for the NOOK Color and what's now called the NOOK Simple Touch Reader. It is Target, the superstore based right here in my home city of Minneapolis, with both versions of the NOOK now available at Target stores nationwide. This makes the NOOK one of the most widely in-store available ereaders on the circuit, currently sitting in stores at Best Buy, Books-A-Million, Fred Meyer, Office Max, P.C. Richard & Sons, Radio Shack, Staples, Target, Walmart, and of course Barnes & Noble. This addition began on October 2nd and you should start to see the tablets in stores across the USA soon.
