B&O BeoVision 12-65 plasma TV and BeoLab 12 speakers debut

Bang & Olufsen has launched a new 65-inch plasma TV, the B&O BeoVision 12-65, along with a set of minimalist wall-mounted speakers, the B&O BeoLab 12. The BeoVision 12-65 uses an ultra slim NeoPDP panel and some clever optical trickery consisting of flexed metal strips to make the set look even narrower; it runs at Full HD, and has an integrated center-channel speaker for use with surround sound setups.

Bang & Olufsen, known for their upscale electronics, has today debuted a new media hub called the BeoSound 5 Encore. The device works like a networked media hub and is a more affordable follow-up to their BeoSound 5 introduced in 2009, which was known for its internet radio and an included hard drive. The new Encore edition eschews the hard drive opting for connectivity with a variety of external devices.

ASUS' last collaboration with Bang & Olufsen resulted in the distinctive NX90; with the notebook manufacturers new N Series machines, it seems they relied only on B&O's audio skills and left their own designers in charge.  The new ASUS N53JN and N73JN - with 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch displays respectively - get Intel Core i3 or i5 processors, NVIDIA Optimus graphics and, of course, the B&O developed ASUS SonicMaster audio.

Bang & Olufsen have been through a phase of unusually shaped landline phones - the banana-esque BeoCom 2 is a good example - but they're returning to their slightly more sensible roots with the new BeoCom 5.  The dual-line DECT phone works both as a twin landline handset and as a VoIP device, and magnetically docks either onto its charging plinth or onto a portable speakerphone (that also charges the handset).

Apple, Microsoft, iriver & more face Tsera touchpad patent lawsuit

Apple, Microsoft, Bang & Olufsen and iriver are among the defendants named by Tsera LLC, a company claiming to own a touchpad patent which has been vigorously infringed.  The lawsuit concerns Tsera's patent "Methods and apparatus for controlling a portable electronic device using a touchpad", and basically describes recognizing different touchpad swipes without requiring visual feedback.
