Waterfield Designs announced today it is unveiling its Keyboard Travel Express. Designed with the wireless Apple Keyboard in mind, the Travel Express can hold wireless keyboards and accessories from other manufacturers as well. Measuring 13 x 7 x 1 inches, the Keyboard Travel Express is available in six colors. It can hold the Apple Wireless Keyboard, the power adapter, and the mouse, SuperDrive or TrackPad. Designed with the wireless Apple Keyboard in mind, the Travel Express can hold wireless keyboards and accessories from other manufacturers as well.

Waterfield Designs alredy makes bags and accessory cases for laptops, cameras, tablets, and other devices like the Nintendo DS. The Keyboard Travel Express appears to have the same quality of their other products, however we will reserve our final word on the Travel Express for a hands-on. It is probably a little large for carrying in a purse, but not everyone carries a purse so the Travel Express could conveniently carry all the accessories for your tablet in one place.

It might have been nice to have the iPad or tablet carried with the accessories, but there are already lots of tablet cases and covers on the market. The case has a bit of a bulgy look to it. It doesn’t look quite as clean and presentable as we would have wanted. It seems to look better, more square and modular, with only the keyboard inside and not all the other accessories. The retail is set at $49, available now.

I really like my iPad. I do worry that I will drop it and crush the screen sometime, but that worry isn’t strong enough for me to wear something like this new iPad holder called the Assero Defender. It looks like one of those baby carriers that some people carry infants around in.

This contraption is sort of like a backpack that you can wear on your chest. It has a flip down flap that the iPad is mounted on that you can unzip for access to your iPad while standing without having to hold the iPad.

The downside is that this is one of the geekiest (and not in a good way) things I have ever seen. It will also cost you $130 despite the fact that it makes you look like a real ass-ero.

Speck has outed its latest range of cases and totes for small-format devices, such as Apple’s iPad and the legion of 10-inch and smaller netbooks, ereaders and other slates. We spent some time with the A-Line 10 tote, PortPack 10 shoulder bag and CorePack FLY 10 butterfly-design bag earlier this week; check out some first-impressions after the cut.

The A-Line 10 ($59.95) is apparently targeted at female iPad users, though the black/grey finish shouldn’t upset too many men (there’s also grey/purple and dark brown/red options) and the zip pockets inside and headphone openings will appeal to all. It’s smaller than you’d expect from the pictures – remember, its microfleece-lined pocket is designed for a 10-inch device – but nicely padded.

As for the PortPack 10 ($49.95), that only comes in black with a grey and blue interior, and has the same microfleece lining as the A-Line 10. It’s arguably more flexible, though, as it can be zippered closed to make a smaller bag when you’re not wanting to carry everything in your gadget drawer.

Finally, the CorePack FLY 10 ($49.95) is airline-friendly and can be sent through a scanner without having to pull out everything inside. It has the same color scheme as the PortPack 10 but opens up to create a flat work-surface; more useful for netbook owners than those with iPads. All three are available now.

Press Release:

SPECK INTRODUCES NEW TOTES AND BAGS DESIGNED FOR iPad, NETBOOKS, E-READERS AND SMALLER COMPUTING GADGETS

PALO ALTO, CA — September 15, 2010 – More and more computing devices fit into the “smaller than a laptop” category and Speck’s introducing a new line of versatile and fashionable carry bags and totes to accommodate them all. The three new offerings include the fashion-inspired “A-Line” Carry Tote along with the new PortPack 10 and Corepack FLY 10 Carry Bags designed specifically for today’s smaller devices such as iPad, 10” netbooks, tablet PCs and e-readers.

“Each of our new bags were designed for the wave of smaller portable devices hitting the market,” said Speck CEO Irene Baran. “From the purse-like styling of our A-Line carry tote, to the incredibly versatile design of CorePack FLY 10, to the understated and configurable PortPack 10, we feel our new bags offer the ideal balance of size, features and styling that make carrying these devices a pleasure.”

Speck’s new carry bags and totes for iPad, 10” netbooks, e-readers, tablet PCs and other smaller portable gadgets include:

A-Line 10 — Smartly Stylish Carry Tote

Finally, a clean, understated and fashionable tech tote that can hold your iPad, netbook, e-reader or other smaller device. The new tote takes its namesake from the apparel industry description for dresses and skirts offering the classic “A-Line” shape. Cute without being overwhelming and smart without looking like a nerdy nylon gadget bag, the A-Line Carry Tote was inspired by female users wanting a more stylish and fashionable purse-like look while carrying their devices. The zippered, padded and microfleece-lined main compartment holds and protects an iPad, netbook or e-reader, while two interior zippered pockets offer organized storage for other smaller essentials and include headphone cord pass-through openings. The A-Line features soft, comfortable fabrics, integrated shoulder strap and clean, single button front flap closure . Available in three distinct colorways to choose from – Grey exterior with purple interior lining, Black exterior with gray interior lining and Dark Brown with red interior lining, each $59.95 MSRP.

PortPack 10 – Versatile, Expandable Shoulder Bag

Navigating the urban landscape with your smaller devices is what PortPack 10 does best. This highly customizable bag stays slim when loads are light or unzips to expand to twice its capacity as needed. Low-profile zippered pockets offer extra storage space and organization for all the essentials, and a microfleece lined and padded zippered main storage compartment snugly holds and protects your iPad, netbook, or e-reader while on the go. Adjustable shoulder strap offers a perfect fit, headphone cord pass through openings keep the music playing and the front cover flap zippers off to create two completely different looks and accessibility options. Available in Black exterior with tartan plaid gray and blue accented interior linings for $49.95 MSRP.

CorePack FLY 10 – Airport Checkpoint-Friendly Carry Bag Unfolds to Lap Desk

Open up CorePack FLY 10’s butterfly design and the bag instantly converts to a portable on-the-fly work surface. The butterfly feature is also airport security checkpoint friendly, allowing you to lay the bag flat without removing your device during x-ray scans. Use the over-the-shoulder strap, or the built-in brief case style carry handle to keep a comfortable grab on your gadget and essentials when on the move. A zippered, padded microfleece lined main compartment protects your iPad, netbook, e-reader or other small device and offers quick access. Headphone cord pass through openings allow for easy listening while your portable devices stay safely stowed in the zippered storage pockets. Available in Black exterior with tartan plaid gray and blue accented interior linings for $49.95 MSRP.

If you can judge a firm’s faith in their products by the length of warranty they offer, the Saddleback Leather Company‘s 100 year cover for their Thin Carbon Black briefcase has to suggest almost overwhelming confidence. Still, at $411 and up, we’d expect no small amount of longevity. Is the faith founded? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

First impressions are of high-quality leather and no shortage of heft. Saddleback use thick-cut 4-5oz full grain boot leather, stitched up with industrial marine grade polyester thread and riveted stress points; there are only three major seams, all placed vertically, which the company claims will help absorb the impact of an accidental fall. Inside the two compartments – each 2.25-inches deep – there’s pigskin lining (though suede is an option); one also has a 6 x 6 inch expandable pocket for files. Four leather colors are available, from the Carbon Black of our review bag through Chestnut, Coffee and Dark Tobacco. The 15-inch is $411 while the 17-inch is $423.

The chunky leather and riveted metal parts add up to a heavier than average bag: the 15-inch model is around 4.25 pounds while the 17-inch is around 5 pounds. Certainly a lot more than most laptop bags, but it’s also the best constructed, highest-quality bag we’ve used. The cutting and stitching is flaw-free, and there are no zippers or snaps that could break over time.

As well as a regular bag with a shoulder strap, Saddleback have added various metal loops that allow you to convert it into a rucksack. Unclipping the strap, threading it through a ring up by the handle and then clipping it back to the bottom loops allows you to wear it over both shoulders; this actually became our preferred carrying method, since it spreads the weight out.

In terms of space inside, there’s sufficient room for a laptop roughly twice as thick as a MacBook Pro in one compartment and then all the cables, papers and accessories you might need in the other section. There are places to hook pens on either side, though given the sturdiness of the leather there’s no give in the construction: this isn’t a bag you can pack full of things and expect elasticated seams to give you a little extra wriggle room.

From initially blanching at the thought of a $400+ bag, we soon began to appreciate the Saddleback Leather Company’s briefcase. Yes, it’s heavy and not inconsiderably priced, but it’s also incredibly well constructed, classically designed and likely to last not only your own lifetime but that of whichever lucky person you hand it down to. Not an impulse purchase, no, but something that could well be the companion to every laptop you own from now on.

I use a Nikon D80 DSLR camera to shoot pictures when I go places with the family or travel for work. One of the things I hate the most about using a DSLR is that the camera is heavy and fragile. I like to carry it in a padded camera bag, but it’s a pain to get the thing out every time I want to shoot a picture and then put it back up.

A company called Cloak has a camera bag that solves this problem. The Cloak camera bag is the first shoot through camera bag around. That sounds a bit odd, but when you look at images of the bag, it makes sense.

The bag is open on the bottom allowing you to leave the camera in the bag and shoot pictures without any issues. The only thing that bothers me about the bag is protection for the camera when you have the bottom open. The camera doesn’t seem any more protected on the lens end with this bag than it would be carrying it without a bag. The Cloak comes in two colors for $49.

Finding a good bag can be harder than finding a good husband or wife, and since you’ll be carrying the bag on your back (unlikely to be the same for a spouse) it needs to be a good fit. We’re yet to try the Booq Mamba Shift out for size, but we’re liking the style at least; there’s room inside for up to a 17-inch notebook and it has an elasticated iPhone pocket in the strap.

There are also numerous pockets for pens, peripherals, hard-drives, accessories and everything else we insist on carrying around with us. It’s all made of ballistic nylon that has been waterproofed, and you even get a little accessory bag that slots inside.

Finally, Booq add a unique serial number so that, if you lose your bag and it’s found by an honest person, it’s more easily traceable. Of course, none of this is particularly cheap, and the Booq Mamba shift comes in at $149.95.

As all things green become more and more mainstream, Better Energy Systems have announced an expansion to their tread line, which features cases and bags for tech products made from a super-material concocted out of South American truck tires.

BES is currently best known for their Solio Hybrid Solar Charger cases. However, they are adding several new cases to the mix including an iPhone case called the tread: Flippy, which costs $29.95; a smartphone case called the tread: Uni, which costs $24.95; a digital camera case called the tread: Campouch, which costs $34.95; a 15″ MacBook Pro case called the tread: Transient Attache, which costs $199.95; and a MacBook Pro sleeve called the tread: Sleeve, which costs $129.95.

The tread line is resistant to scratches and is extremely durable. It can also stand up to UV light, mold and is super easy to clean. You can also feel good that you are doing your part for the environment by purchasing these cases, as the butyl rubber used to make them would have otherwise been burned, releasing toxic emissions into the atmosphere.

It is sold by Quirky Bags who isn’t going to make things easy by just saying what size laptops would fit. Instead they give the overall dimensions of the bag, which are 40 x 30 x 10cm. Those in the UK are in luck because this bag offers free shipping for you. It will cost you £100.00 or about $195.

It’s just about August which means many will be making their way back to school. For some, that means a bit of shopping and a new laptop bag. Well if you’re going to pick up a new one you might as well pick one up made out of recycled materials.

The bag is made entirely out of post consumer plastic bottles and manages to look adorable anyway. Specifically, it uses 18 bottles to create the bag, which is 18 less that goes to the dump.

It has smaller compartments on the front and then larger areas on the inside to fit books and your laptop. For one of these it will cost you $48. Which isn’t too bad really and you’re cleaning out one cubic yard of a landfill.

Anyone has dabbled a bit in WoW know what a Mooncloth Bag is, well now you can own one in real life. Through the beloved Etsy of course, granted it is kind of a girly depiction of the bag.

Hopefully you have a thing for lace accenting your bags with a bit of polka dot fabric lining the inside of the bag. The bag is made from blue corduroy material, which means it’s likely to be a bit more durable.

The seller has been playing WoW for a little over two years now and suggests that the bag be used for strategy guides, game cards and other random WoW stuff you may own. The bag is being sold for $180.

Back in May frequent travellers were promised speedier security queues as the TSA confirmed it was going ahead with proposals to allow X-ray-friendly hand luggage; now named QuickCheck, the system is basically a set of guidelines that state a laptop in a qualifying bag must show up in an X-ray image as clearly as if simply placed in a standard bin. One of the first manufacturers to show off their QuickCheck luggage is Mobile Edge, with three new travel bags.

A backpack, briefcase and similarly-designed messenger bag (in fact the messenger bag looks to simply drop the handles that the briefcase comes with), the idea is that you can simply open up the case to show to a TSA operative, rather than completely remove the notebook.

While I’m all for speeding up queues, there doesn’t seem to be a vast difference in time between completely unzipping your Mobile Edge bag and whipping out your notebook from a standard bag. Most of the time you can do it while waiting to be security screened. Plus, it means you can’t really put anything loose into your backpack, as when opened it would all spill out.

The Mobile Edge range will be available in late Summer, prices not yet known.

My all time favorite line of solar bags are from Noon Solar, which I have said several times. Unfortunately, they range anywhere from $250-$412, which is a bit much for me. This bag from Gadget4all isn’t chic in the least, but it is at a very reasonable price.

It has the usual specs of a solar bag, nothing special really. The greatest part about this bag is that it is being sold for $48. Which is by far cheaper than a great deal of the competition.

In case you’ve forgotten in the long months without any of these type accessories, I have a serious addiction to Etsy. My favorites list is about a mile long. Well now I have a new favorite product, and a seller as well.

The creator of this bag not only creates this one, but an Umbrella Corp bag, a Boot Goomba bag and a Mario Kart one. If the blue one is a little too over the top for you, the Resident Evil Bag looks cool and is plain enough that only gamers will understand its meaning.

You also have to check out their Super Mario Mushroom Charm Set that is being sold for $8. The messenger bags are all being sold for $30 a piece.

It includes bags, a mouse or two in varying colors, speakers, earbuds and portable hard drives. The line has plenty of selection in coloring and several different styles of bags.

None of the accessories are especially overpriced, which is nice, I’m just not sure that a huge line like this was actually necessary. The color and style selection is nice for those that do have a Dell, especially students.

For anyone who is actually going to leave their computers behind and head out into the great outdoors as the weather continues to warm up, you might want to check out this Skullcandy backpack. The Hydration Pack has a built in 72 oz. water bottle that features a bite valve and seeing as how it’s Skullcandy it also keep you attached to your iPod.

Not only does it have a spot to plug in your iPod to listen to your tunes while you’re hiking, but you can turn down the volume to your music on the straps and receive phone calls and talk hands free. Then again, the area that I would be hiking around here is a dead zone for cellphones so it would be pointless in that aspect for me.

The bag comes in gray and orange as well as all gray with a touch of gray camo thrown in. Unfortunately the bag doesn’t mention whether or not its water proof which might be an issue if it rains while you’re out on a hike or bike ride. It is being sold for $129.99.

Whether or not bright red lips on the front is your style, having a purse that is custom made around your gadgets would be nice for a change. Not only does it list areas for the common gadgets like cellphones and MP3 players but even for the Nintendo DS and the PSP.

It also has an area for cables and all those other cords that are more difficult to find a spot for. The bag is polyester with faux leather trim and soft poly-cotton velvet lining. It is being sold for a very affordable $24.95.

I’ll admit, some of the other models look cool and useful, and there is a model like the one pictured that actually goes around your waist (I still can’t decide whether the chick is wearing it wrong or if it’s the other model that looks the same) that doesn’t look too terribly bad. However this particular model, would definitely make you look like a tool.

Their site is in all german, and I don’t have too much info coming back from CeBit where these pictures were just taken, but if this is the basicHolster (programmers ought to like the naming convention) it costs 35.90 Euros with their most expensive holster being 49.90 Euro. They are available now, from their website, but you have to speak German.

WaterField Designs just announced the HardCase, a new line of custom-fitted computer cases and bags for the super-hot-super-sleek-super-thin MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro and the MacBook. The new HardCase is minimalist in design, yet rugged enough to protect your precious cargo. It’s made from fine leather and ballistic nylon.

The HardCase is available for pre-order with prices range from $229 to $249. Shipping starts February 10, 2008.

— One question about the HardCase, where does the charger for the MacBook Air go?

Quick response: The charger goes in the rear pocket, which is lined with soft, no-scratch material and is secured with self-locking YKK zippers.

The image above shows one of my bag on a normal travel day, weighing 18-pounds. This was a light day! I’m looking to shed at least 8-10 pounds off of that once my new MacBook Air arrives. I plan to sport an older lightweight Tumi bag I got a while back. It’s not fancy, but will definitely do the job of protecting the MacBook Air with enough compartments to tote around a few accessories. I don’t remember the Tumi bag costing more than $100 or so. Making it a great buy.

I have in the past made fun of some of the holster designs meant to house gadgets and other random things. Frankly, they tend to come off extremely geeky, and not in the cool way. In more of the pocket protector kind of way. However, these new designs from Skin Graft have a bit of the rocker look to them to balance out the geeky look.

Even when they aren’t attached to the tattooed babes in the photo they seem to still have a nice quality look to them. The styles range from casual to extremely detailed and intricate designs.

They come in both canvas and leather, the canvas of course don’t look quite as nice as the leather. However, they still don’t have the cheesy look of some of the designs that have come before it. The bags range from $80 for the canvas ones to almost $200 for the studded leather designs.

The need to carry around bags with speakers baffles me a bit. If I ever spotted someone with one I would have the strong urge to stop them and ask them why they have it. Not even to make fun of them, just purely because I am truly curious why there is a need for one.

The bag has built in speakers as well as controls to pause and turn up or down your tunes. The NXT speakers are located on the underside of the flap. Keeping them concealed when you aren’t using them. That way you don’t get strange people like myself stopping you in the street, pestering you about your need for one.

The bag comes in both a sleek black and a brown as well. All together the bag is priced at $144. On a side note if you have or want one, I beg of you leave a comment as to why you think it’s necessary and end this mystery for me.

That being said, you can see why I’m excited about this messenger bag. Just like Master Chief himself this bag is more than it may first seem. It may look like just a bag but it can hold a 15” laptop, two textbooks and just about all the ammo(gadgets) you may need in the outside world.

It comes in khaki or gray and has the UNSC logo on the front. It used to be Red vs. Blue but now it’s khaki vs. gray (and gray is winning).

This bag is definitely more geek than chic, but as a Nintendo loving geek I can’t help but love it anyway. Besides the novelty of toting around a Nintendo branded item it also would carry a decent amount of gadgets and anything else you need to tote around.

It features a large main compartment as well as three external zipper pockets and two net storage pockets. It measures 12”x17”x6” and is being sold for $40.

Some things are just hard to tote around. Take your game consoles for instance, sure it’s easy to bring your games to your friends house, but what if your loser friend refuses to go buy their own system (even though some people have been buying them parts at a time in hopes they will get with the program) and thus you have to constantly tote yours back and forth between houses in order play and unless you have a something like, oh I don’t know, a laundry basket handy you can put your console in it does become very difficult.

Well fret no more, if your console happens to be a Wii, because now there is an easier solution. The Wii Messenger Bag will make taking your Wii anywhere a breeze. There are separate compartments for the console itself, the sensor bar, power pack and controllers and games or any other additional equipment. Now the party doesn’t always have to either be at your place or be a hassle.

The Wii Messenger Bag costs $29.99. Now I’m really hoping they come out with one for the Xbox 360, cause that’s what I need!

Even among people I’d consider ‘sane’ most of the time, I’ve been told how my cell phone is a means of spying used by the government and yadda yadda yadda. If the government wants to hear me talk about my latest Halo 3 experience to my friends or make arrangements to go out to eat, etc… so be it. However, for those people whose lives may be a little more exciting or even those who think they have exciting lives, there is now the Black Hole Phone Bag.

The Black Hole Phone Bag has two different pouches. The front pouch is a normal, everyday, put your phone it slot. The second pouch is a black hole. No, it’s not an object/light sucking hole of black doom, it just simply blocks all incoming/outgoing transmission while the phone is there. How simple, how convenient, how mind easing.

You can pick one of these up for just $12. This is the perfect gift for all those nay saying, paranoid, wannabe gangster (yeah, I went there) friends/family you know.

Noon Solar uses biodegradable materials, like chrome-free leathers that are tanned with sustainable harvested materials like rhubarb and walnuts as well as naturally hand-dyed hemp/cotton fabrics. On a perfectly sunny day it can take 6-8 hours to get the internal battery up to a full charge. On a cloudy day it will take a bit more than that.

The battery will hold a charge for several days until its needed. It works on all your smaller gadgets, iPods, PDAs and cell phones. The bags range from $274-$412.

The Monaco notebook bag from Mobile Edge is one of their “For Her” Collection. These bags are for working women who carry the laptops, with an emphasis on both style and functionality.

The quilted Microfiber exterior is very elegant but still cute enough to have youth appeal. Meanwhile, the interior is lined with rich poly-suede, so it both looks and feels good. The Monaco bag holds notebooks with up to 15.4″ screens and is not too heavy, in fact it only weighs around 2.5 lbs. My MacBook Pro fits nicely. Besides the well-padded laptop compartment there is section for papers and files, and in the bottom section there is a pocket for spare batteries and cables. I particularly like the space not only for two pens but also for your lipstick.

The removable matching makeup bag is included, and can be detached from the main bag with just one snap. This bag could be too small for your entire makeup collection, but it is enough for just powder and mascara. You could also use this as a wallet, and there are some pockets (slots) for credit cards and ID.

This bag comes with a detachable cell phone pouch, but it pouch won’t fit smart phone and so my iPhone has to go inside the main bag itself. However, there is a Wireless Security Shield in the main compartment, which is a pocket that supposedly protects cell phones and PDAs from hackers and viruses. This pocket is big enough for any size of smartphone or PDA, but be careful: if you put your phone inside, you won’t be receiving any phone calls. Once your handset is in there, it’s cut off from the network signal.

This bag has only one main compartment, and while it’ll open pretty widely which is very useful, I wish it had an outside pocket for small items like keys so that I wouldn’t need to open the body of the bag to grab those.

Overall, I like this bag, it’s both functional and, at only $99, affordable. It is available with either white stitching (and a red interior) or pink stitching (with pink interior).

It’s the job of fate to make sure that, when you really need to call someone, your cellphone battery has died. The people at Sunload obviously got fed up of this, and have stuck a triumphant two fingers up at fate with their solar-panel equipped bags. Vincent caught up with them at IFA 2007 and got a tour of the latest range; check out the exclusive SlashGear video after the cut.

Sunload use a flexible solar-panel that can be stitched to a fabric bag – they offer messenger bags, business bags or even a leather briefcase – and an indecently clever rechargeable battery pack with two inputs (for multiple solar panels) and three outputs (various adaptors are supplied). It also has a built-in charger for rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, and you can charge the whole thing up via the mains if the sun isn’t being cooperative.

Sunload will also sell you the different components separately if you’re interested in making your own solar-powered bag or maybe even a solar trench-coat. The bag range starts at around €479 ($654).
