SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 18, 2012

, Oct 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

Welcome to Thursday evening, everyone. This afternoon we had a bunch of quarterly reports hit, and some were better than others. Google posted its quarterly report a little prematurely, a blunder that had a hand in driving down the price of the company's stock. Later on in the day, we heard from Microsoft, which managed to do pretty good in its first quarter. Sadly, AMD posted its results for quarter 3 just a little while ago, and things aren't looking too good for the company - in fact, it says that it will have to layoff around 15% of its workforce in an attempt to save some money. AT&T carefully objects to Softbank’s Sprint deal

, Oct 18th 2012 Discuss [0]

With a single statement that's no more than three sentences long, AT&T has given what essentially amounts to a fair warning to U.S. regulators that they will not have an easy time approving of Softbank's acquisition of Sprint. Having failed at their own acquisition of T-Mobile in the USA earlier this year, it would appear that AT&T isn't going to let the Japanese carrier Softbank work with Sprint without letting them know they're watching them closely. With what AT&T says here, a clear message is sent directly to the FCC saying how the USA doesn't take kindly to outsiders buying up their market - so to speak. Read The Full Story

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 17, 2012

, Oct 17th 2012 Discuss [0]

It's time to begin counting down to the weekend once again, because we've hit Wednesday evening. Today we heard that the iPad Mini could launch on November 2, which makes sense considering that date is just over a week after Apple's October 23 press event. Later in the day, more sources were mentioning a November 2 release date for the iPad Mini, as well as spilling a few more details about the long-rumored device. The Isis NFC mobile payment system will apparently be launching on October 22, and Microsoft said that Internet Explorer 10 will be coming to Windows 7 in mid-November. Read The Full Story

, Oct 17th 2012 Discuss [0]

Earlier in the month, we heard that the Nokia Lumia 920 will be exclusive to AT&T, but today we're learning that this affair may not last forever. The folks at WPCentral have uncovered a number of AT&T Lumia 920 training videos, and in one of them, it tells us that the Lumia 920 will be exclusive to the carrier for six months. After that, presumably, is when the Lumia 920 will see a broader release on more carriers. Read The Full Story

AT&T LG Optimus G Review

, Oct 16th 2012 Discuss [0]

With the LG Optimus G, this OEM brings on its most powerful device by a long shot, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor inside and a 4.7-inch TrueHD IPS+ LCD display up front, this running on AT&T’s 4G LTE network here in the USA. What we’re seeing here is a device that’s ever so slightly confused in its identity – with more power than it knows what to do with in a device that looks and feels fabulous, but is just a bit bigger and more slippery than a normal-sized human being will be comfortable holding. Perhaps this combination of looks and processing power are enough to convince us that LG has suddenly become as much of a top-tier contender in the USA as Samsung and Apple?
