HP have gone touch-crazy in the run-up to Windows 7’s release, pushing out several new touch-sensitive products including a 42-inch widescreen LCD.  The HP TouchSmart tx2 updates the original convertible tx2, and has a 12.1-inch capacitive touchscreen which also accepts stylus input; meanwhile there are two new TouchSmart desktop ranges, in the shape of the consumer-oriented HP TouchSmart 300 and 600 – at 20- and 23-inches respectively – and the business-centric HP TouchSmart 9100, a 23-inch model targeted at the hospitality and retail markets.

ATI has been working hard to bring the fight to NVIDIA in the discrete desktop GPU market and it is doing a decent job with video cards offering good performance at a good price. We mentioned back in September that ATI had new 5700 series desktop GPUs coming and today specs and photos of the Radeon HD 5750 and HD 5770 video cards have been revealed.

It’ll come as little to no surprise that, with the new ATI Radeon HD 5870 video cards fresh on the scene, gaming PC manufacturers are already updating their wares to include the DirectX 11 capable GPU.  Maingear is one of the first into the SlashGear inbox, with their Ephex, F131, Prelude, and X-Cube systems all getting friendly with AMD’s newest graphics card.

With a press conference imminent, ATI’s new DirectX 11 video cards are beginning to make their appearance on retailer shelves.  Two cards – the Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 and the ASUS Radeon HD 5870, each marked “Cyprus HT” and with 1GB of memory – have shown up for sale at Newegg, while over at Hexus and The Tech Report they’ve each been reviewing the new Radeon HD 5870.

crysis on iphoneTemped by Crysis on the iPhone?  Even with its most recent processor and graphics boost, Apple’s 3GS smartphone isn’t quite up to that level, but OTOY have been showing off how, thanks to AMD’s next-gen GPUs, they can squirt Crysis-level HD gaming across a network to your mobile.  AMD demonstrated their next-gen platform’s 2.5 teraFLOPS of floating-point power and DirectX 11 abilities this week, and OTOY were on hand to show Ars Technica just how they’re using all that power.

AMD have revealed their latest attempt to corner the market in notebook hardware, with the launch of the 2009 AMD Mainstream Notebook Platform “Tigris” and the Second-Generation AMD Ultrathin Platform.  Both combine AMD’s latest CPUs and ATI-range GPUs, and promise up to 42-percent improved performance in the mainstream range and ultraportables that “visibly outperform” rival systems (such as Intel’s CULV, we presume) when it comes to 3D gaming, media processing and more.

AMD are talking up their latest collaboration with manufacturer Clevo, packing the chipmakers’ Athlon 64 X2 processor and ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics into what’s described as “an optimal price”.  While the targets of these new machines – unnamed by the AMD press release and seemingly yet to show up on Clevo’s own site – are developing markets, we can’t help but think that it’s not just Brazil and Taiwan who would like “long battery life” and “exceptional video performance” with a budget price.

We're sure that Toshiba could announce some more things, but this is getting ridiculous. This time around, we've got a laptop, and one that's sure to attract some onlookers, if for anything else because it's Ducati-branded. Getting a name-brand, on top of the manufacturer's name brand, isn't a new practice, especially for company's hoping they can get an extra buck or two from it. Although, it is nice to see an actual Ducati right next to the laptop. It definitely gives the little piece of tech a more attractive appeal.
