ASUS PadFone 2 super-shake dock test demoed ahead of December release

ASUS's freshly announced docking PadFone 2 phone/tablet hybrid will arrive in Europe and Asia before the end of December, complete with a newly-designed dock that can hold the smartphone even if shaken violently. The clever bay - even though it lacks the protective door of the first-gen PadFone - is the result of 2.5 years of development time, and can withstand being bumped, smacked around, and generally mistreated. ASUS PadFone 2 smartphone-in-tablet announced in Taiwan

As it said it would back in September, ASUS just unveiled its smartphone-in-a-tablet PadFone 2 in Taiwan, showing off its sleek design and upgraded specs. This unique tablet/smartphone combo features a smartphone that slides into a slot on the back of its accompanying tablet. The PadFone 2 features many upgrades over the original PadFone, getting everything right that the original fell short of.

Those looking forward to the ASUS Padfone 2 have likely been very frustrated by the fact that we haven't heard too many details about the device. There have been leaks here and there, but for the most part, there hasn't really been anything too significant. The folks at Bloomberg were luckily enough to briefly go hands-on with the device in an interview with ASUS chief Jerry Shen, and were kind enough to put video of the encounter up on YouTube for the entire world to see. The new OS went up for pre-order today, while a number of other Windows 8-related stories were popping up all over the place. ASUS unveils VivoBook Windows 8 laptop [UPDATE]

Back in August, ASUS unveiled its Vivo Tab line of tablets at IFA 2012, which come packing with Windows 8 and an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor. However, it seems that ASUS thinks the Vivo tablets need a big brother, so it teased the VivoBook laptop today, which also comes with Windows 8 and sports the same style and look as the Vivo Tabs. Unsurprisingly, the rumored 32GB Nexus 7 is in our faces once again, but it's sliding closer and closer to hopefully being a reality. An anonymous source who works for a hardware reseller spotted something interesting on its listing for the 16GB Nexus 7. Apparently the listing hints at replacing the 16GB with the 32GB model. Ever since we saw a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 show up in a warehouse inventory system listing last week, speculation of a 32GB model has kept on rising. With the Windows 8 wave oncoming quick, it appears to be AT&T that's taking on the mobile bit of the universe first, here with the ASUS VivoTab RT with 4G LTE amongst others. This device is one that we've seen before - announced back during IFA 2012 first of all. Welcome to Thursday evening folks - just one more day until the weekend is officially here. iOS 6 has been out for a little more than a day now, and while there are a lot of new features to get excited about, Apple's new Maps app seems to be spoiling the party. Many are bummed that Apple Maps doesn't feature public transportation routes like Google Maps, and a group of developers set out to solve that problem with a new hack. ASUS Padfone 2 launch tipped for October 16

ASUS is readying the Padfone 2, the follow-up to its tablet-docking smartphone, the original Padfone, with a simultaneous launch in Milan and Taipei next month. Details of the new hybrid aren't given on the invite shot out to Tutto Android, though it's clear that the device still runs Android given the partial screenshot on show. Intel has announced a pre-Microsoft Windows 8 tablet event later in September, gathering together a clutch of manufacturers to discuss new hardware and its upcoming Atom chips.
