Apple MacBook Review – Late 2008 Model

Of all the things Apple should be blessing Steve Jobs’ Reality Distortion Field for, it’s the perennial success of the MacBook despite not having undergone a serious update in more than two years. As Jobs himself declared at the notebook’s launch, the MacBook remains the best selling Macintosh; no RDF was necessary when faced with the new aluminum model’s design.  It’s not, however, the $800 notebook some were predicting – and even more hoping for – so where does this mini-MacBook Pro fit in?

More BestBuy inventory sheets have surfaced this week, this time they lists the new MacBook and MacBook Pro that will be announced tomorrow at Apples event, (that we will be live blogging). Nothing large or mind blowing was revealed in the inventory sheets. The main focus is really on the pricing that they list. Read The Full Story

PHONE Mag Live-Blogging Apple’s iPhone SDK announcement today!

Apple iPhone SDK event todayIt’s been a rumor-packed week since Apple announced they’d be holding a special event today, March 6th, to officially announce the iPhone SDK Roadmap as well as “some exciting new enterprise features”, and we wanted to remind you that over at our cellularly-obsessed sister site PHONE Magazine we’ll be live-blogging the whole event.  The show kicks off at 10am PST – that’s 1pm EST or 6pm GMT – and the place you’ll want to be is http://live.phonemag.com/

Will Steve announce an SDK beta as has been rumored, and leave the full release for later in the year?  Just how draconian are Apple going to be about third-party software, and is iTunes really going to be the only place users can get new apps for their iPhone?  And please, can we have Microsoft Exchange support yet?  We’re hoping to find out the answers to all these questions – and maybe the odd surprise, because we’re greedy like that – when Jobs takes to the stage, so join us later today!

Video’s from Apple’s Media Event Last Week

As most of you already knew, our own Vincent Nguyen was at the Apple show last week where a whole slew of software upgrades, the new iMac, the new keyboard, the upgraded Mac Mini, and the Gigabit Airport Extreme were all announced/released. Well, it just so happens that still pictures aren’t the only thing Mr. Nguyen is good at, he can take videos too. Waiting To Enter [youtube YvzWhQxp5u8] Nothing too terribly interesting with two exceptions, first the Q&A session, I don’t know if it is the entire segment or just a 4:19 long clip of it, but it has some useful information in it. The second exception is the video of the new iMac and keyboard, it gives you a better mental picture of what they look like and their comparative sizes. Read The Full Story

Mac mini gets a processor upgrade, is not being killed off

There have been rumors floating around for a little while now that the Mac mini is going the way of the dodo. However, Apple has just given the tiniest Mac a welcome refresh. I don't think it's going anywhere. Read The Full Story

The new iMac!

We knew our man Steve Jobs wouldn’t yield the stage to anyone else, so he got up himself and decided to talk about the Mac. The Mac has grown 3 times as fast as the rest of the industry, so they’re pushing forward with the line.

new iMac

Of course, as we all knew, the iMac is getting some loving. It is getting an aluminum enclosure, which he says will be more professional and durable. They will also be adding glass to the screen, meaning it will be glossy.. It’s going to be much thinner before, and upgrading the memory will be easy. Just remove the screw (I say the screw because there is only one visible screw on the whole machine) and pop it in.
