Hong Kong’s First Apple Store To Open This Year

Hong Kong will be getting its first Apple Store later this year. The South China Morning Post reported that the 15,000 square-foot location will be in the International Finance Center (IFC) Mall in the central district of Hong Kong Island. A second Apple Store in Hong Kong is planned for 2012 to be a 20,000 square-foot location in Hysan Place in Causeway Bay.

White iPhone 4 reservations hit updated Apple Store app

Apple has updated its Apple Store app for iOS, with v1.1 now available through iTunes, and it seems to have brought with it suggestions that the white iPhone 4 release is finally imminent.  MacRumors forum member Bandolier spotted that reservation options for the white iPhone 16GB and 32GB models have been added to the updated app, alongside their black counterparts.

Unfortunately, actually tapping the reservation options doesn't yet allow you to reserve a white iPhone 4.  Instead, you get a message saying "Because of high demand, we are not currently taking iPhone reservations."

The Chinese grey market is a lucrative place to find gadgets, and pretty much anything else. Popular items include high-priced gadgets, like many of Apple's devices, and it looks like the iPhone 4 hasn't escaped the attention. All over the world where the newest iPhone is sold, it's a common practice for customers to buy up a large quantity of the devices, and then send them over to China, where they can be re-sold in the grey market. That practice is going strong, as it was revealed today that Apple was forced to close their flagship Apple store, located in Beijing, due to scalpers of the iPhone 4.

Apple Stores Now Able to Sell Unlocked iPhones [update]

Well, it looks like the world is seriously at a strange tilt. We're getting word that, as of today, Apple Stores are going to be able to start selling iPhones, free of contract, and at list price. That means $499 for 8GB, $599 for 16GB, and $699 for for 32GB. There's rumors that this has something to do with the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus showing up on AT&T's network some time here in the next couple months, and the fact that AT&T now has a 3G-enabled Google Nexus One is nothing to scoff at either. Times, they-are-a-changin', and it looks like Apple is definitely on that boat as well.
