There’s a really, really big box sitting near the Flint Center. It's only a bit over a week before Apple's next event here, and a massive white structure is being worked on which will likely be unveiled in full on the 9th of September, 2014. Inside this box may very well be an environment in which the iPhone 6 can show off its next-generation abilities.
As had been rumored, Apple introduced the second-generation iPad mini today. This one will be arriving with a Retina display and similar to the iPad Air -- it will be available in two color options. Apple has the iPad mini with Retina display shipping in a Space Gray and also in a Silver option.
Apple has officially unveiled the latest iPad. The 5th generation slate has been dubbed the iPad Air and it brings the familiar sized 9.7-inch display. Though, while the display size may be the same -- the tablet has gotten smaller both in terms of overall size and weight. We broke down the specs in an earlier iPad Air post, so this time around the focus will be on the pricing and availability.
This morning Apple has officially brought on a 2nd generation of their popular iPad mini tablet, complete with Retina display. This version of the iPad mini works with a body and presentation extremely similar to the original, working with a physical appearance not all that unlike the iPad mini's first edition. This iPad mini will be hitting the market with at least two different colorways - a darker gray and a lighter silver / white, and will be appearing aside the new 5th generation iPad - the iPad Air as well.
Apple has already talked a bit of software in terms of Mavericks, but they also have the apps that will be available for those using OS X, and iOS. In this case, we have word of an updated version of iWork. The talk of the updated iWork suite began with mention of how it has been completely rewritten and how it is now 64-bit. To that, Apple has said "its never been faster."
We saw some details in terms of numbers and we saw what appears to be a plan to allow Apple to serve up huge numbers for Mavericks. If you missed that bit, Apple announced that OS X 10.9 Mavericks will be released for free later today. But in addition to talk of Mavericks, Apple then went on to talk about the Mac Pro, which is going to be arriving in December.
Coming out of the Apple event, it looks like OS X Mavericks is going to be available beginning today. This latest news comes just a few weeks after the gold master was made available for developers. But there is a bit more to this than simply getting access today. Apple has said they "want to get Mavericks into as many peoples' hands as possible." For that, OS X 10.9 is coming as a free update.
The latest Apple announcement event has begun and while we are expecting a mix of hardware and software, things are kicking off with some numbers. And this time around we are getting numbers touching on everything from iOS 7 to iTunes Radio. Beginning first with iOS, it looks like Apple users managed to upgrade 200 million devices in five days time.
This morning Apple's Craig Federighi stepped onstage to speak about OS X's Technologies, Features, and Apps. In what was to become one of the last pushes for Mavericks before the final release, Federighi suggested that Power Efficiency was at the top of their minds for this software. This began with a feature called Compressed Memory.
