I have a bunch of gear stuffed into my entertainment system at home. That means that the inside of my entertainment center stays hot all year long thanks to the doors on the front. In fact, the high heat inside the entertainment center contributed to the failure of my PS3 last year. If you have a lot of gear in your entertainment center and needs a way to keep your hardware cool Antec has a new offering that might do the trick.

The device is called the Antec soundscience a/v cooler. It looks pretty much just like the coolers that Antec and others make for notebooks where you sit the notebook on top of the aluminum plate and the cooler helps dissipate heat. The top of the a/v cooler is made from aluminum. Inside there are a pair of 80mm fans to cool your hardware and shoot that heat out the back.

The blower fans are two speed and pull the heat from under the a/v cooler and then shoot the heat out of the back vents. The fans are designed to be quiet with 28.7dBA of sound. The cooler needs 5W of power on its fastest setting. The soundscience a/v cooler will sell for $139.95.

Asetek and Antec have announced that the two firms have teamed up to offer a new liquid cooled CPU cooling solution that will out perform air coolers by up to 20% and is easy to install and maintain. The new system is called the Kuhler H2O 620 and is billed as a zero maintenance cooling solution.

The cooling solution has a low profile pump to take up less space and circulate the liquid within the system. Other features of the system include easy bend tubes to prevent kinks and fans that are controlled by the temperature of the liquids inside the circuit.

The solution also has a large copper cooing plate that sits on the CPU for maximum cooling performance. You might expect a liquid cooling solution to be expensive, but this system is not. The Kuhler H2O 620 will go on sale at the end of this month for $69.99 at major retailers.

If your living room is usually being used to watch movies or play video games, then you know that having the best sound is critical to a fully enjoyable experience. There are plenty of options out there for speakers, especially if money is no worry and you have a system that can handle 5.1 or 7.1-channel experiences. But what if you just want a simulated 3D experience? An experience that doesn’t come with a huge price tag? Then you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer to get your hands on Antec’s Soundscience speakers.

Shown off over there in Europe today, at this year’s IFA show, this new speaker is of the 2.1-channel system variety. Antec says that, despite the limited channels, that the Soundscience speaker will deliver realistic 3D sounds, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much. The Soundscience features anodized aluminum satellite speakers, which can accept digital or analog input. And, if you want to use 3D only depending on what type of media your watching, there’s an external toggle that will let you choose between 2D and Antec’s very own 3D sound.

While Antec is confident that the speaker will be set to launch this year, they couldn’t give a precise date. They do say that it will be out some time this Fall. But the best part comes in the fact that it won’t cost an arm-and-a-leg to get your hands on the Soundscience. Only $250, and you can have all the simulated 3D sound you need.

The all-in-one design – which looks a little Matrix-like to my novice eye – is perhaps the most successful, tipping the Skeleton onto its side and mounting an LCD onto what would usually be the base. There’s also an integrated keyboard, and they could have bypassed the separate mouse by using a touchscreen.

The Antec Skeleton in its original form has a 250mm top-mounted fan, a slide-out motherboard tray and, underneath, space for a PSU and drives. It’s available to buy now, priced at around $149.99.

The Antec Skeleton case almost seems to be a contradiction in terms, as for your money you don’t actually get much casing. What you do get is a 250mm fan mounted on top of an arched framework, with a slide-out motherboard tray and, underneath, space for your PSU and drives. Antec are saying it provides “unprecedented airflow”, which I suppose is accurate unless up until now you’ve left your PC components lying around on a window-ledge.

There are four drive bays, two externally-accessible 5.25-inch slots and two internal 3.5-inch slots, with an optional side-tray that holds a further four 3.5-inch drives. Meanwhile room for seven expansion slots accommodates even 11-inch video cards, and there are two USB 2.0 ports, one Firewire, one eSATA and audio in/out.

As well as the 250mm color-customizable LED fan up top (make sure the cat doesn’t get too near if the fan-guard is left off) there’s a 92mm fan at the front to directly cool the hard-drive bays. I always thought that a managed airflow was better than having a cooling free-for-all, so the theory behind the Skeleton confuses me; can anybody with a better grasp of case cooling educate me in the comments?

Case manufacturer Antec has taken the wraps off of its latest HTPC case, together with a new range of “Multimedia Station” add-ons to make existing computers more home-entertainment friendly. The Micro Fusion Remote 350 is compact 4.5 x 15.1 x 16.1-inches and includes an aluminium front panel with IR receiver, remote control and LCD display. Inside, Antec have separated the motherboard from the included 350W power supply in a dual-chamber design it claims reduces noise, as well as provided silicone grommets for quiet-mounting hardware.

The new Multimedia Station range, meanwhile, consists of 3.5-inch or 5.25-inch bays that offer the choice of IR control, sub-displays and other controls to existing PCs. Four versions make up the range, from the Basic (an IR receiver and remote combo, for a 3.5-inch bay), through the Elite (a 5.25-inch VFD display, IR receiver and volume dial) and the Premier (a double 5.25-inch VFD display with multiple controls, IR receiver and deluxe remote), as well as the E-Z which is basically a USB IR receiver that plugs into a laptop.

All the Multimedia Station units, together with the new HTPC case, come with Antec’s iMEDIAN HD media station software, that can support 1080p high-definition and is compatible with XP and Vista Media Center functionality. The Micro Fusion Remote 350 is priced at $239.95, while the Multimedia Station range is priced at $39.95, $99.95, $119.95 and $29.95 for the Basic, Elite, Premium and E-Z respectively.
