When we first told you that Midway was working on a Mortal Kombat/DC Comics mashup game, I was rather skeptical about how good it could possibly be. One of the most disappointing details was the lack of fatalities, however, Midway assures us that they will be in the game.

I’m not one of those people who denies that piracy is an issue. I fully understand that gaming studios lose a lot of money to pirates each year, which means money that could be going towards development is lost. However, there are times when it’s just easier to play a pirated version of a game, rather than your perfectly legit copy. I have a feeling that Mass Effect for the PC is going to be one of those games.

id Software announces Doom 4

By Chris on Thursday, May 8th 2008 No Comments

Some of my favorite games as a kid included Doom in the title. Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom were just awesome games. There were few things better than running around and blowing up aliens. I recall drooling over screenshots from Doom 3, and subsequently being totally disappointed with the game. The worst part was the horrible lighting and very limited use of the flashlight. It wasn’t the worst game I played back in ‘04, but it certainly didn’t live up to the hype in my opinion. That said, I am happy to hear that id has announced that they are working on Doom 4.

Nintendo is all about having big launches for their big titles. The latest launch party will be thrown in honor of the Wii Fit. Since the Fit is designed as something of a fitness product, they are changing things up a bit and using the party to raise funds for a good, healthy cause.

One of the things that makes Rock Band so great is the steady stream of fresh DLC. That’s true of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, however, those rocking out on the PS2 and Wii are left out in the cold, due to their inability to download new tracks. Thankfully Harmonix has a solution.

As you no doubt noticed, two major titles hit stores this week. Chances are if you’re a PS3 or 360 owner, you’ve been busy motoring about Liberty City (no doubt preparing yourself for all of the violent crimes that you’re bound to commit later in life). However, if you’ve got a Wii, I can bet that you’ve been doing a bit of driving too. If you think you’ve mastered the Kart, then why not test your skills against some of the best drivers out there for glory?

Say goodbye to The Sims Online

By Chris on Thursday, May 1st 2008 No Comments

I enjoy a wide range of video games, however, The Sims is a series that I have just never been able to get into. I’ve tried a few times, and have watched others play, but it’s just so damn boring. When Sims Online came out I could at least understand why people played it, as it was more of an online social interaction. Unfortunately for players of the game (recently rebranded as EA-Land), the game is going to be taken offline.

Xbox 360 JapanIt’s no small secret that the Xbox 360 isn’t doing nearly as well over in Asia as it is here in the US. It’s understandable since both Sony and Nintendo are from the region and already have a wide install-base. Microsoft won’t give up though, in a move that will hopefully drive more sales, they are cutting the price of the 360. Only in the Asia markets though.

Depending on where you go and which version of the console you purchase, you’ll see a price cut of between 5 and 20%. Surely a big fat 20% discount will stir up a bit of excitement. Hit the jump for a brief statement from Microsoft on the matter.
