The second generation at Rovio (developers of Angry Birds) has begun. Their first CEO, Mikael Hed, has stepped down, making way for former Nokia exec Pekka Rantala to take over starting in January. Mikael Hed is the fellow that’s been the face of Rovio since Angry Birds first took off, founding the company, reminding gamers and citizens to "pop pigs" whenever he had the chance. Now with profits taking a bit of a dive, Rovio is in for a change.
There’s little doubt now that Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise has convinced Hollywood that they’re an immortal brand name as Transformers steps up to the plate. Angry Birds Transformers, the next line of games and toys is called, a combination of Autobirds and Deceptihogs for the next film’s release.
Rovio, the studio behind the once-popular Angry Birds franchise, has released their 2013 earnings. The 37 million euro in earnings suggests a healthy game studio, but when compared to the 77 million euro brought in for 2012, things may not be so rosy for the Angry Birds team. Further clouding their future is net profits of 26.9 million euro — a big drop-off from the 55.5 million euro earned in 2012.
Over the weekend, Rovio teased "the most epic soft launch ever", an epic Angry Birds edition teased with a solid medieval theme and precious few (nary any) details. The folks at Kotaku have scored some additional details, and say the next game -- aptly named Angry Birds: Epic -- will be a turn-based RPG.
They may call it ‘the most epic soft launch ever’, but if you ask us there is nothing soft about the launch or the theme of the next Angry Birds game. According to the trailer released on the official YouTube channel of Rovio Mobile, the next epic Angry Birds game has a very medieval theme. If you listen closely to the background score of swords swishing and slaying imaginary enemies, you will find the sounds eerily familiar.
Upon hearing that they were the latest subject in the seemingly never-ending strand of suggestions for NSA entry points into your daily life, Rovio has suggested that they've had nothing to do with Angry Birds user-data insecurities. Rovio has gone so far as to point their finger, instead, at third party advertising networks. It's through them, they say, that it's possible Angry Birds user data has been pushed.
The developers at Rovio have revealed their next big play for the mobile gaming universe with a customizable racing game by the name of Angry Birds GO! This game works with some of the same premises as he previous games they've released - customizability from Bad Piggies, catapulting birds from Angry Birds - and twists the whole universe into a carting adventure.

The game will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and the Nintendo 3DS. With Halloween coming up fast, Rovio has gotten into the holiday spirit, and is pushing out an Angry Birds Friends update that brings along a spooky-specific Halloween theme. In addition, starting tomorrow a new Halloween Tournament will be launched, bringing with it some gaming particulars that last for one week.
This week the folks at Rovio have unleashed word of their next gaming effort in Angry Birds Go! This game will - as suspected - work with the "Kart" universe of racing, doing so for Android and iOS on December 11th, 2013. This game will take on what Nintendo refuses to move forward with in creating a full-powered top-notch kart-based racing game for mobile devices.
If we didn't know any better, we'd say the folks at Rovio are aiming to release an Angry Birds Star Wars game that goes not only to the worlds presented in the prequels, but to some favorites from Return of the Jedi as well. What we're seeing this afternoon is a series of new teaser videos from the creators of the ultra-popular franchise showing off new characters (of which there are set to be over 30, believe it or not) arriving in the game Angry Birds Star Wars II. This game is set to run the expanse of the galaxy, without a doubt.
