Rovio's Angry Birds series has been one of the most popular mobile game series of all time, and Rovio is cashing in on all the licensing deals. Today the developers at Imangi Studios have announced that they’ve reached the 50 million app download mark for mobile devices, reaching this point a full 22 days earlier than the previous record holder. That previous record holder was Angry Birds Space, having crowned itself the fastest growing mobile game in April of 2012 by reaching 50 million downloads in 35 days. This of course means that Imangi Studios will be picking up the tab tonight when we all go out to celebrate their victory.

Angry Birds Star Wars adds 20 levels in Escape from Hoth update [hands-on]

Less than a couple days after Rovio teased a new update for Angry Birds Star Wars, the company has released the Escape from Hoth update, which adds 20 new levels to the game, as well as new types of enemies. BlackBerry isn't afraid of a little game bribery to try to fuel the first batch of BlackBerry 10 device sales, turning to Angry Birds developer Rovio to help gild the lily. The developer joined BlackBerry on-stage in London, UK, to announce that all of its back-catalog of Angry Birds titles will be available in BlackBerry App World from launch, with a freebie for those early-adopters. Angry Birds downloaded over 8 million times on Christmas Day

It turns out that Angry Birds was a huge hit on Christmas Day. The series ended up getting over 8 million downloads on December 25 alone. The Finnish game studio, Rovio, released an infographic today dealing with the Angry Birds success over the holiday. Christmas week (December 22-29) saw a total of 30 million Angry Birds downloads. Speaking of the iPad mini, Apple confirmed today that the LTE iPad minis should be shipping out in the next five days, and the company announced that it will be donating $2.5 million to the Hurricane Sandy recovery effort on behalf of its employees.
