ASTRO File Manager enhanced for Android tablets

ASTRO File Manager enhanced for Android tablets

Up until this point with Android, I'd have said that this application was "enhanced for Honeycomb" as that's the current operating system made specifically for tablets - but as that's all about to change this week in Hong Kong, I'll just say "for tablets." This is ASTRO File Manager, an awesome little app that's made a big splash in both the worlds of Android hackers AND normal humans who just want to move their files around on their Android devices with the greatest of ease. It's all gotten a little bit easier this week with an update that utilizes your entire giant display.

Android Market blocked by Chinese Government

Android Market blocked by Chinese Government

It appears that China and Google are butting horns again, this time with Google on the losing end with a complete block of their mobile OS Android's apps market being completely blocked throughout several major regions in the country. Speculation around the situation points to no less than the virtual visit of the Dalai Lama to South Africa. Seem sort of disparate? Those of you following the life and adventures of the Lama know that he and China have minced words more than once, and for those of us conspiracy theorists in the tech world, here's the skivvy: China may well have simply been looking for an excuse to block Google's mobile OS so that they could dominate in-country with their own.

One of the most obvious and correct steps any forward and mobile-thinking event these days should have is a companion app to help attendees navigate their way through the day. Apple iOS Developers Found to be in better position than Android due to app Piracy

Apple iOS Developers Found to be in better position than Android due to app Piracy

According to a study conducted by Yankee Group and Skyhook, Apple users download six times more paid apps than Android users do, this indicative of a much more lucrative position for developers creating applications for Apple products exclusively. This study published today found that users in the USA download approximately 40 apps per user per year. This study also showed that Android developers make "much less" money from the sales of paid apps than Apple iOS developers, a further study of 75 Android developers showing "rampant piracy" of Android apps as the main reason why.

Skype Launches Third Party App Directory

Skype Launches Third Party App Directory

Just as we find Skype picking up its latest awesome relatively-new app group in GroupMe group chat service, the video chatting group has now launched their very own app directory for third party apps working with Skype's telephony service. At the moment the platform is rather sparse, but as with what seems like every move Skype has made in the past few months especially, this program has great potential. As Skype's brand power and collection of users grows, so too does this Skype App Directory have the possibility of growing with it - what wonders will we find?
