Gingerbread rebaked as Android 2.4 in April for dual-core app support?

ViewSonic has tipped Google's hand on an incoming update to Android, though it's not the Ice Cream Sandwich we've been waiting for. According to Pocket-lint's source at the company, Google's engineers expect to release Android 2.4 in April 2011 under the Gingerbread name, with the only change being support for dual-core apps on single-core devices like the Nexus S. Android Ice Cream Next, Will Bring Honeycomb to Handsets

In an anonymous message send first to the folks at Phandroid, a source familiar with the inner workings of Google and Android has told the world that Honeycomb will indeed be coming to handsets, but not directly. Instead, in a working build by the name of GRI17, the elements that will be necessary for the Android handset line to advance and be compatible with Honeycomb (for syncing, porting, etc,) there'll be a new version of Android by the name of - Ice Cream. The Galaxy S line of phones from Samsung has just expanded with the Galaxy S 4G. This fabulous new phone will be rocking the house with 4G speeds, a full copy of the movie INCEPTION, and a bunch more surprises including full T-Mobile TV functionality. A 720p video camera on the back, Android 2.2 Froyo installed inside, and a pre-installed 16GB microSD memory card make this phone a slight step behind the rest of the pack as far as being the absolute top notch, but certainly it is heading for the top of the middle heap.
