‘Albatron’ Stories

If you thought HP and Dell’s Windows 7 compatible multitouch monitors were desk-dominating at 21.5-inches, go away and fetch a cold-compress.  Albatron have been working on their latest optical touch display, and it’s a full 42-inch whopper promising 1080p resolution, multitouch and gesture support.  mobile+notebook grabbed some hands-on (literally) time with the behemoth.

After seeing NEC’s frighteningly expensive VersaPro VS netbook, all of a sudden Albatron’s slimline netbook seems a little less impressive.  That’s unfair to Albatron, though, as they’ve still managed to pack a whole lot into very little space; here you see it getting a piggy-back from the Samsung NC10, itself seldom accused of being a porker, while after the cut the Albatron manages to make a BlackBerry Bold smartphone look oversized.

We kicked off the week with a review of Sony’s OLED Walkman X, coming away mighty impressed by its iPod-besting audio quality.  Equally impressive was Flip Video’s Ultra HD pocket camcorder; if only we could say the same for SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone.  While on paper this media-shifting app should be a 100-percent winner, AT&T’s decision to bar streaming over their 3G network has left us and many would-be users upset.

After the teasing photograph from earlier on today, we now have hands-on videos of the Albatron slimline netbook.  Weighing under 1kg yet packing a 10.2-inch display, Intel Atom N270 processor and a 6-cell 3,600mAh battery, the Albatron machine also promises optional UMTS and WiMAX models.

We’ve not heard much from Albatron since their Tee PC touchscreen slate cleared the FCC back in December, but the company has obviously been busy in the meantime.  The first live photo of Albatron’s netbook has emerged, over at Netbooknews.de, and while specifications are currently unknown it’s certainly shaping up to be a temptingly thin ultraportable.
