Call of Duty: Black Ops Receives Patch, Infuriates PS3 Owners

Despite the fact that the same game may be released on multiple consoles, that doesn't necessarily mean that specific console owners are getting the same experience that others are getting. It's become a well known, and much-maligned, belief that the Microsoft Xbox 360 version of the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops is the superior edition, while the PC and PlayStation 3 variations got the shaft, more or less. There are a few properties in the entertainment market that are expected to have huge releases. That includes the newest Call of Duty game, as well as the newest installment to the Gran Turismo franchise. Both of those games managed to sell a ridiculous amount of copies, with Call of Duty: Black Ops destroying entertainment records on its own. Call of Duty: Black Ops Hits $650 Million in 5 Days

In a formal announcement that some probably saw coming from a mile away, Activision announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops has continued to break records, and has officially managed to rake in $650 million worth of sales in the first five days of being on sale. Bungie Developing Title for Activision to Launch on Major Consoles and PC

There's no doubt that publisher Activision has been on a bit of a roll as of late, especially with mega-hits like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and more recently, Call of Duty: Black Ops breaking records in the entertainment market. But, that's obviously not going to stop them from focusing on the future, and one way to make sure that you have a strong library of titles coming down the pipe is to secure strong developers. Call of Duty: Black Ops Rakes in $360 Million in First 24 Hours, Breaks Records

It was only three days ago, when we reported that it looked like Activision, and analysts alike, were preparing for the worst when it came to the release of the latest Call of Duty title, Black Ops. It was believed that the new game would manage to sell 20% less than what the previous mega-hit, Modern Warfare 2 managed to sell, and that everyone was pretty much okay with that. However, on the street, and amongst gamers, it was pretty evident that Black Ops was seeing ridiculously strong pre-sales, and that the first 24 hours would be pretty big. The talk about Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops is winding down, as players brace themselves for the launch tomorrow. First and foremost, though, it's the Call of Duty after Modern Warfare 2, so they know they have a lot of work ahead of them. Activision Says Blocking Violent Video Games from Minors Goes Against Free Speech [Update]

Violent video games aren't new. And the fight against them has been robust, igniting every so often as a new game is released and gets brought to the forefront of media as an exceptionally violent or explicit title. Arguments vary, but the main gist is that video games shouldn't be considered art, and ultimately there should be a way to ban the most heinous titles from getting into the hands of those who shouldn't have them. In this case, a California law that blocks the sale of violent video games from minors is being heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on November 2nd, and the video game industry is beginning to join forces to fight it, including Activision Blizzard. Activision would “very aggressively” support plug-and-play PC games console

Outspoken Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has been throwing gaming cats among console pigeons again, describing the Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft games systems as "walled gardens" and promising to "very aggressively" support HP, Dell or any other PC manufacturer who chose to push a plug-and-play computer that hooked up directly to the TV.  Such a PC would allow the game developer increased access to the revenue stream; Kotick told the Financial Times [subscription required] that he believed "60 per cent of [Microsoft’s] subscribers are principally on Live because of Call of Duty."
