Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD rockets to 120,000 sales

Nostalgia is proving to be a powerful thing for gamers, with developer Robomodo confirming that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD has sold around 120,000 copies in its first week of availability. That number is pretty impressive on its own, but what makes it even more impressive is the fact that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD hasn't yet launched on PC and PS3, meaning those numbers are for the Xbox 360 version alone. Robomodo's Josh Tsui tells Gamasutra that day-over-day sales of the downloadable title have been "staying very consistent" throughout its first week.

Pachter: Activision forced Nintendo to create Wii U Pro Controller

Right before E3 2012 kicked off, Nintendo revealed the Pro Controller for the Wii U, something which a lot of gamers (including myself) were happy to see. According to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, the Wii U's Pro Controller might might not exist today were it not for the insistence of Activision, which said it would not be putting Call of Duty games on the Wii U if Nintendo didn't give developers a more traditional controller to work with. Thus, the Wii U Pro Controller was born, or at least that's the way the story goes when Michael Pachter tells it.

Why Microsoft Should Acquire A Major Game Publisher

Why Microsoft Should Acquire A Major Game Publisher

Microsoft’s success in the gaming market has been nothing short of astounding. From starting out as a company with little knowledge about how the market works to becoming the leading console maker for over a year, Microsoft has cemented itself as a major player.

However, the one thing the company is missing right now is a deep first-party game lineup. 343 Industries will undoubtedly help with the Halo 4 launch, and every now and then, something good comes out of Microsoft Game Studios, but I think it’s about time the software giant acquires a major publisher.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II theme song composed by Trent Reznor

Call of Duty: Black Ops II theme song composed by Trent Reznor

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is probably going to be the biggest game of the year, so it's only appropriate that Activision finds some big names to attach to the game's development. One of these big names is Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor, who has composed the theme song for the highly-anticipated military shooter. Apparently, the tune is an "aggressively sounding" rock arrangement, which should fit well with Black Ops II's gritty gameplay and style.

Call of Duty hits free online play in China

This week China has been announced to be getting a healthy dose of none other than Activision's hit shooter game Call of Duty for completely free online play. This game will be "free-to-play" entirely online and Activision will be using this move to expand their footprint across Asia. Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 might head to Wii U

Forget the new touchscreen controller. Forget the fact that Nintendo will finally offer HD graphics in a video game console. And you can even forget the new online community Miiverse. All of those things are irrelevant if the Wii U doesn't manage to bring significant third-party support and blockbuster franchises that have helped deliver success to its rival consoles.

Activision/Bungie legal documents oust potential PS4, Xbox 720 dates

If you're curious about when the next-generation Microsoft and Sony consoles will be coming out, well lucky for you someone decided to read through page after page of boring legal jargon to find the Activision and Bungie may have ousted potential launch date windows for each platform. Activision and Bungie have firmed up plans to forge a publishing deal together, and as a complete formality they have to submit legal paperwork about the terms of the joint partnership.

Treyarch Call of Duty Black Ops II doesn’t need new engine

Treyarch Call of Duty Black Ops II doesn’t need new engine

The next version of Call of Duty will run on the same old engine as many of its predecessors. The Call of Duty franchise has been running on the IW3.0 engine since 2007, with the exception of Modern Warfare 2, which used IW4.0. But don't expect a major under-the-hood overhaul for Black Ops II. But that doesn't mean it won't still be an amazing experience, the developer says.

Sony PS3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle announced

Even though Call of Duty publisher Activision is in bed with Microsoft and gives the Xbox 360 all kinds of early and exclusive content, Sony has decided to show that it still loves the company, and the call of Duty franchise, and will be offering a special edition version of the PS3 designed specifically to target fans of the quintessential first-person shooter franchise.
